The Voice Recap: A Diamond in the Rough

The Voice may be bringing a bit of the same after 13 seasons on the air, but Jennifer Hudson is a welcome addition to the panel. She oozes positivity, and that’s something required when coaching many hopefuls through the various stages of the process.  It was Blind Auditions Night Two, and we had some very solid performances to run down.  Who made it through to the next round? Let’s run down the performances below … Keisha Renee  “I Can’t Stop Loving You” Keisha’s song choice was on point. At this stage, it’s important to show off your vocal range, and Keisha definitely accomplished that goal.  She was confident and knew exactly what she needed to do to get to where she wanted in her career. Blake Shelton was big on her and quickly snapped her up for his team.  Maharasyi – “Tell Me Something Good” While Keisha chose the perfect song, the same could not be said for Maharasyi. You would think with her already having a recording career, she would know which song to sing to show off her singing voice. Luckily for her, Jennifer saw the potential and turned her chair around, but we can’t help but think it was a mistake.  Dylan Gerard – “Say You Won’t Let Go” Dylan did not sound great, but Jennifer helped him out and told him to change some things. This helped him sound way better, and Adam noticed this.  So, Adam got another one to join him! Red Marlow – “Swingin'” Red had a great country voice, and he had the perfect song to go along with it. We could definitely imagine him as a recording artist, and the coaches thought so.  Ultimately, he joined Team Blake.  Ashland Craft – “You Are My Sunshine” Ashland was the best singer of the night. It was perhaps one of the best auditions ever, and that was partly down to her confidence about the whole thing.  The coaches took notice, and she ultimately joined Team Miley. Miley is the best place for Ashland because we could see them dueting together.  So, that’s a wrap on Night 2, you guys. Which performers did you like best? Hit the comments below! The Voice Recap: Who Was Cut?

The battles continued on the most recent episode of The Voice, and as you could probably expect, the episode was filled with drama.  Getting to this stage of the competition, the artists know how cutthroat things can be, but who lost their place with their coach? Did they get snapped up by another coach? It is time to run down the battles… Josh Hoyer vs. TSOUL Josh went up against TSOUL as they performed “In The Midnight Hour” by Wilson Pickett. It was a surprisingly eye-opening performance.  It proved Josh’s voice was very monotonous and that he would not go much further in the competition. It was sad, but it was true.  As always, TSOUL continued to hit the high notes and proved why he deserved to be in the competition.  Winner: TSOUL Autumn Turner vs. Vanessa Ferguson Autumn and Vanessa went with “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack, They have the type of voice that would work well in a duet, but they had to go against one another to ensure they lived another day in the competition.  Both of them have distinctly different voices, but they were both beautiful to listen to. Ultimately, Vanessa beats out the competition, but that did not mean Autumn’s game was over.  Adam Levine stepped up to poach her for his side.  Winner: Vanessa Ferguson Steal: Autumn Turner Johnny Hayes vs. Julien Martinez Johnny and Julien were practically the same in terms of vocal range. You would think you were listening to the same person.  The pair went head-to-head by singing “Hard to Handle” by Otis Redding. The judges felt like Julien was not as into the performance as much as Johnny and that cost him his place in the competition.  Winner : Johnny Hayes Caroline Sky vs. Stephanie Rice “The First Cut is the Deepest” by Cat Stevens is a song that can get the attention of anyone. It’s a tragic song about love.  Caroline and Stephanie floundered with this performance, and it made us question whether both of them were going to get the boot.  Thankfully, they both lived another day as the coaches were able to look past this dud of a performance.  Winner:  Stephanie Rice Steal : Caroline Sky to Team Blake Kawan DeBose vs. Malik Davage Kawan and Malik went head-to-head with “Love me Now” by John Legend, but the two men had to perform the number in front of Mr. Legend.  That’s something that would scare anyone. What if they screwed the performance up? With both men getting praise from the coaches, it was difficult to judge who was making it through to the next stage.  Unfortunately for Kawan, he was sent home.  Winner : Malik Dawage Hunter Plake vs. Jack Cassidy Hunter came out roaring tonight in his performance against Jack Cassidy. The pair duked it out to “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn.  Hunter improved somewhat from his most recent performance, while Jack turned in more of the same.  The surprising thing was that Jack won. Luckily, Hunter was sent over to Team Gwen.  Winner:  Jack Cassidy Steal: Hunter Plake What did you think of all the developments? Sound off below! Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green Sing ‘Crazy’ In ‘The Voice’ Preview

Extended sneak peek of reality singing competition aired before Thursday’s ‘Tonight Show.’ By Gil Kaufman Christina Aguilera Photo: Isaac Brekken/ Getty Images It’s been almost impossible to avoid the avalanche of promotion for NBC’s new reality singing competition, “The Voice.” From splashy magazine ads to endless TV promos and interviews with the show’s four celebrity coaches, the show has been getting a full-court blitz in the lead-up to Tuesday night’s premiere. The biggest push to date occurred Thursday night, when a 12-minute teaser aired before “The Tonight Show,” highlighted by an all-star performance of the Gnarls Barkley smash “Crazy” by the four judges. With Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine on drums, country star Blake Shelton on guitar and Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green adding their pristine vocals to the song that made Green a superstar, each member of the quartet brought their patented brand of star power to the pop summit. Aguilera, of course, indulged in some of her R&B diva melisma, Green his deep soul growl, Shelton a bit of country grit and Levine some surprisingly sharp drum chops. The studio audience went crazy as host Carson Daly explained the unique concept behind the show, which will have the coaches listening with their backs turned to singers vying to be their prot
