The Voice Recap: Did Adam Levine Address the Elephant in the Room?

Adam Levine found himself in the hot seat on Monday night.  The longtime coach on The Voice felt the ire of the internet last week when he urged viewers to vote to save Reagan Strange, despite her not being well enough to perform in the sing-off.  In the process, he threw his other act, DeAndre Nico, under the bus, and everyone seemed mad at him.  Last week “was a strange week, but it’s over now,” Adam said to Reagan. “DeAndre’s my boy. I love him. We talked. It’s all good.” Viewers later got to witness a video call between DeAndre and Reagan later in the night; the former had nothing but praise for his 14-year-old former teammate.  “Do your best, man,” DeAndre said, “and stay positive.” It’s classy for DeAndre to throw some support Reagan’s way, especially when you consider the backlash to this whole thing that could have been avoided.  If you thought Adam was ready to say anything else about it, you were wrong. Carson Daly seemingly decided against asking him much about the performers.  As for Reagan Strange’s big performance? It was meh.  The youngster went with Calum Scott’s “You Are the Reason,” and while the youngster has proven to have a solid voice, this was not the best song for her.  It was just all over the place, and her nerves were also to blame. By this stage of the game, you should be acclimated with performing live.  It makes sense that viewers wanted Reagan gone for that reason, but it remains to be seen whether Tuesday will be her big goodbye.  The best performance of the night was Kennedy Holmes and her rendition of “This Is Me.” She pulled out all the stops to ensure this Greatest Showman song was performed perfectly. She even put her own spin on it, to boot.  Whether viewers will vote for her is another story because, well, the viewer vote is never a sign of quality.  As for the worst performance of the night? That honor goes to Sarah Grace who went with “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles.  There wasn’t anything remotely likable about this number. From shaky vocals to awkward moves, there was something off about the rendition from the get-go.  The true test will be whether she winds up in the bottom three, which could really go either way.  Who did you like best on the night?  Did Adam Levine make a mistake? The Voice Recap: Who Survived Night 2 of the Battles?

The Battle Rounds continued on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice, and there were some big shockers.  Certain performers who were solid in the Blind Auditions completely fizzled out. Others continued to turn in winning performances.  But who did not get through to the next stage? Find out below.  Team Kelly: Kymberli Joye vs. OneUp – “Mercy” In a rare feat, Kymberli went up against not one, but two competitors thanks OneUp being a duo. As we previously said, OneUp’s vocals are not all that.  And that’s wh Kymberli won this heat with flying colors. Some would say it wasn’t a fair fight for OneUp, but that’s to be expected when there is just one duo in the process.  Team Adam: Steve Memmolo vs. Anthony Arya – “Amy” This was a fair fight. They were both not that great in the Blinds, so pitting them together made for a surprisingly competitive performance.  Steve definitely had the edge, and that was made obvious by his higher vocals. In the end, Adam kept Steve, but Anthony got a reprieve thanks to Jennifer.  Team Adam: Tyke James vs.Jarred Matthew – “She’s Always a Woman” Okay, so we’re still unsure why either of these two got through the Blinds, but here we are. But one of them had to win, and it was genuinely difficult to tell them apart in the midst of all the screaming.  Tyke took the win, and thankfully, there was no steal in play. Phew.  Team Blake: Chris Kroeze vs. Mercedes Ferreira-Dias – “Back in the High Life Again” There were a lot of issues with this Battle. Both artists did not sound good together, and that’s why it would come down to the personal preference of the coach.  Neither was better than the other. They were limited by their shared lack of ability.  Team Blake: Katrina Cain vs. Rachel Messer on “Angel” Katrina has been a solid performer ever since her turn in the Blind Auditions, but what the heck was wrong with her voice during this Battle? Had she been replaced with someone who looked like her? In any case, she secured the win over Rachel, but something tells me Rachel should have won this round.  That’s a wrap on Night 2 of the Battle Rounds. There’s still a lot to come from the Battles before we get to the Knockouts and the Playoffs.  There’s also the big twist coming up, so there’s that.  Hit the comments below.  The Voice continues Monday on NBC.  View Slideshow: The Voice Winners: RANKED!

Dancing with the Stars Recap: Who Went Home?

The dancers went from New York City to Las Vegas Tuesday night as Dancing With the Stars turned up the heat and had all of the competitors perform a second routine in one week.  Yes, the stakes were higher than ever before! But who managed to stay in the game, and who was given the boot following another awkward dance?  Let’s break down the performances, and the results, shall we? Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke   Juan and Cheryl danced the Foxtrot to “Why Don’t You Do Right?” by Peggy Lee. It was a sultry performance that continued to keep them in good standing with the judges.  The minor niggle came from Len, and it was all about Juan’s frame, but who the heck cars when you can dance as well as Juan does? Judges’ Score: 26/30 Milo Manheim and Witney Carson “Put on your heels, the sky’s the limit,” said Celine Dion ahead of the duo dancing the Tango to “Ashes.” Milo and Witney took that quite literally because they went all out with their latest number, and the judges were even shocked by it.  Judges’ Score: 26/30 Danelle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev Danelle and Artem went with the Quickstep to “Luck Be a Lady,” and it highlighted what could go wrong for Danelle.  Her disease rendered her blind, so she was scared of the Quickstep because it was a high energy and high stakes routine.  While the other couples are improving every performance, it seems these two have already peaked.  Judges’ Score: 19/30 Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten Despite being the surprise success of the season, Alexis was blindsided by how demanding this routine actually was, and she left Alan in rehearsals.  Their Tuesday performance that included the Salsa to “Booty” by Jennifer Lopez took a hit as a result, but it was still solid when compared to some of the others.  Judges’ Score: 24/30 John Schneider and Emma Slater John has struggled since the season premiere because he’s rather wooden. His Jive to “King Creole” by Elvis Presley was not all that.  He has a lot of energy but he struggles actually to put that into the performance, and that’s what could ultimately cost him his place in the competition.  Judges’ Score: 20/30 DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold After building up a lot of momentum with their first two performances, that all slowed down with the Quickstep dance to “Ladies Man” by Boyz II Men.  There was something really off with this performance, and it could be down to the height of DeMarcus. They look mismatched as a result.  Judges’ Score: 23/30 Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson Joe may be improving, but there’s still a lot wrong with his dance moves. He lacks the skill, and Jenna wants to try and drum into him the fact that they’re skating around the bottom of the leaderboard.  The Jazz to “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers highlighted the fact that these two might be ready to dance out of the ballroom.  Judges’ Score: 18/30 Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe Evanna and Keo are going from strength-to-strength and their high energy Jive to “Heat Wave” by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas was excellent.  Judges’ Score: 24/30 Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess It turns out, there is such a thing as too much energy in the ballroom! The judges were not all that enthused by the Quickstep Bobby, and Sharna went with to “That Old Black Magic” by Sammy Davis Jr.  Could their exit be on the horizon? Judges’ Score: 19/20 Nancy McKeon and Val Chmerkovskiy Nancy is another middle of the pack performer who seems to have fizzled out early on. Her Paso Doble to “Storm from KA” by Cirque du Soleil was not her best dance yet.  She needs to adapt quickly if she wants to remain in the competition.  Judges’ Score: 20/30 Tinashe and Brandon Armstrong Tinasha has already performed with Britney Spears, so it was unsurprising that she went with “Circus” by the Queen of Pop.  Tinashe and Brandon have the chemistry sorted, so that was a huge positive. They could actually win, you guys! Judges’ Score: 26/30 Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber Mary Lou continued to build on her early success with the Samba to “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow. It was a rock-solid performance that proved she was willing to take risks.  The judges were happy with it so that reflected in the scores.  Judges’ Score: 24/30 At the end of the night, it was Danelle and Artem and John and Emma that were in danger. Danelle and Artem were sent packing.  It’s surprising Grocery Store Joe gets to dance again, but he could be leaving in the next week or two.  What are your thoughts on this? The Voice Recap: Who Won Night 4 of the Blind Auditions?

After Monday’s Blind Auditions brought some of the worst auditions yet our way, five more people advanced to the next stage of the competition on Tuesday.  But were these five more worthy than the bunch that made the first episode of the week such a big drag? Let’s break down Tuesday’s performances! Reagan Strange (Team Adam) – “Meant to Be” This 13-year-old appeared on the stage and shocked everyone. With her mature attitude and dizzying vocals, she emerged as quite the contender.  As seems to be the norm on this NBC hit, first performance nerves can cause some problems, and that’s what happened here.  In the end, she joined Team Adam, and her future in the process will hinge on whether she can battle the nerves and whether Adam chooses the right songs for her.  Foushée (Team Adam) – “Redbone” Foushée appeared on stage and had all of the makings of a global sensation. Being the daughter of a drummer, she knew what she had to do to secure a place post-audition.  That’s why she made her way to Team Adam. It would have been fun to see what Kelly did with her, but Adam might be the next best thing.  Chris Kroeze (Team Blake) – “Pride and Joy” Chris shocked both the audience and the coaches. Adam thought he was a woman because nobody expected such a sweet voice from a man who looks like a country rocker.  That said, being put in Blake’s team might prove to be the biggest mistake, because Blake is going to throw every country song at him to see what sticks.  MaKenzie Thomas (Team Jennifer), “Big White Room” Makenzie returned after not getting anywhere during Season 14. Her aim here was to get the chairs turning because her nerves got the best of her the last time.  There was a great voice there, but a lot of work is required to make sure the teenager does not sound as pitchy as she did during the audition.  Thankfully, she’s on Team Jennifer, and we could not think of a better place for her! SandyRedd (Team Kelly), “River” This 35-year-old mother of two brought her A-game Tuesday night. With vocals that people can only dream of, the coaches rewarded her with a four-chair turn.  It was the biggest surprise of the night because the spots on each team are starting to look hella full, but SandyRedd was worth it.  In fact, she was so worth it that Jennifer Hudson threw both of her shoes at her. Is it a big compliment? We hope so.  In the end, she opted to go with Team Kelly.  What are your thoughts on the latest auditions? The Voice Recap: Who Won Night 4 of the Blind Auditions?

Dancing with the Stars Results: Who Was Sent Packing?

Dancing with the Stars served up another big elimination during Latin Night, an episode filled with routines that were just too hot to handle.  With Barbara Corcoran and Keo Motsepe already eliminated, which other couple lost their place in the competition during week two?  And was it one of those shocking eliminations that nobody saw coming, or was this just a matter of time for an overmatched tandem? Let’s break down the steamy performances and and find out … Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev – Samba – “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee Nikki improved a lot on Monday’s episode of the series, but then she went and squandered that momentum when she kept cackling whenever she tried to practice for the sexy routine.  We’ve all had a case of the giggles, but did she not know how high the stakes were for this competition? The performance was a little too slow, and it showed that Nikki is not that great of a dancer.  Score: 18/30 Victoria Arlen and Val Chmerkovskiy – Rumba – “Easy” by Sky Ferreira Victoria was nervous when she tried to prepare for this routine with Val. The performance was okay, but Len said that it was not all that and he wanted to see some more from them. We have to agree.  At least Victoria can take solace in the fact that Taylor Swift sent her a gift for her birthday.  Score: 20/30 Derek Fisher and Sharna Burgess – Paso Doblé – “Diablo Rojo” by Rodrigo y Gabriela Sharna is the Queen of raunchy routines, so it was evident this was one she and Derek should be able to get some traction with. Derek was upset about them landing in the bottom two.  Everyone was glad that Derek was taking the feedback on board, but it never really reflected in his score.  Score: 19/30 Sasha Pieterse and Gleb Savchenko – Samba – “Most Girls” by Hailee Steinfeld Sasha opened up about some trolls who came out of the woodwork when she gained weight due to PCOS. It helped her channel all of her heartbreak from the ordeal into her performance.  Who would have thought that Sasha would be one of the best performers of the night after her premiere week dud? Score: 22/30 Nick Lachey and Peta Murgatroyd Argentine – Tango – “She’s a Lady” by Lion Babe Nick has not been performing as well as we expected him to do on the show so far, but tonight he proved that he could improve if given the time.  The judges were not entirely impressed, with Carrie Ann glad about the progression, but Len continued to play the villain role by essentially calling it trash.  Score: 19/30 Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold – Samba – “Mi Gente” by J. Balvin and Willy William Going into the competition, it was clear that Jordan knew a lot about the world of dance. From stints on Grease live to Disney spectaculars, he had a huge advantage.  The performance was flawless. They looked confident together and were genuinely believable as a couple.  Score: 24/30 Drew Scott and Emma Slater – Rumba – “Lights Down Low” by Max feat. gnash Who does not like to have a tan? That was Emma’s question to Drew before the routine, so she decided to spray him down, and it worked. He looked soooo much better.  It gave Drew more confidence, and the judges even agreed that there was some improvement, so it was a win-win! Score: 21/30 Debbie Gibson and Alan Bersten Argentine – Tango – “Havana” by Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug Debbie Gibson has been essentially at the bottom of the pack with Barbara since last week, but she proved she has what it takes to be taken seriously.  Her performance with Alan was her best yet, but the judges felt Debbie was not making the best use of her body.  Score: 21/30 Vanessa Lachey and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Salsa – “Instruction” by Jax Jones feat. Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don Vanessa is one of the best competitors this season. Her dancing has always been a cut above Nick’s, so it’s a given that she will, make it further than him.  Even Len was impressed, and that’s not something that happens every day, you guys! Score: 23/30 Terrell Owens and Cheryl Burke – Samba – “Hot in Herre” by Nelly   Terrelll initially appeared as the novelty act of the season, but somewhere along the way, he improved and his now middle of the pack. That’s a great change from one week ago.  The judges were all very positive about his improvement.  Score: 19/30 Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas – Salsa – “Mani Picao” by Ricky Campanelli Lindsey continued to go from strength to strength in her attempt to own the floor, and Mark was clearly loving the whole thing. They were electric, and the pair are probably going to make it far.  Score: 24/30 Frankie Muniz and Witney Carson Cha-Cha, “Perm” by Bruno Mars If you told us a few weeks back that Frankie Muniz would be a frontrunner on Dancing with the Stars, we would have laughed in your face.  He knew what he needed to do to get the judges talking and they LOVED it. He is a great entertainer.  Score: 25/30 After the performances, it was time to send another contestant packing. Nick and Peta and Debbie and Alan were in the bottom two couples.  In a true shocker, Debbie and Alan were let go from the competition. Say it ain’t so! What did you think of the elimination? Sound off below! Dancing with the Stars is back next Monday on ABC! View Slideshow: Dancing with the Stars Season 25 Cast Rankings: Who Will Win … or Exit Early?

The Voice Recap: A Diamond in the Rough

The Voice may be bringing a bit of the same after 13 seasons on the air, but Jennifer Hudson is a welcome addition to the panel. She oozes positivity, and that’s something required when coaching many hopefuls through the various stages of the process.  It was Blind Auditions Night Two, and we had some very solid performances to run down.  Who made it through to the next round? Let’s run down the performances below … Keisha Renee  “I Can’t Stop Loving You” Keisha’s song choice was on point. At this stage, it’s important to show off your vocal range, and Keisha definitely accomplished that goal.  She was confident and knew exactly what she needed to do to get to where she wanted in her career. Blake Shelton was big on her and quickly snapped her up for his team.  Maharasyi – “Tell Me Something Good” While Keisha chose the perfect song, the same could not be said for Maharasyi. You would think with her already having a recording career, she would know which song to sing to show off her singing voice. Luckily for her, Jennifer saw the potential and turned her chair around, but we can’t help but think it was a mistake.  Dylan Gerard – “Say You Won’t Let Go” Dylan did not sound great, but Jennifer helped him out and told him to change some things. This helped him sound way better, and Adam noticed this.  So, Adam got another one to join him! Red Marlow – “Swingin'” Red had a great country voice, and he had the perfect song to go along with it. We could definitely imagine him as a recording artist, and the coaches thought so.  Ultimately, he joined Team Blake.  Ashland Craft – “You Are My Sunshine” Ashland was the best singer of the night. It was perhaps one of the best auditions ever, and that was partly down to her confidence about the whole thing.  The coaches took notice, and she ultimately joined Team Miley. Miley is the best place for Ashland because we could see them dueting together.  So, that’s a wrap on Night 2, you guys. Which performers did you like best? Hit the comments below!
