Ever since Sundance, we’ve been contemplating the crop of of films, performances and various other contenders shaping up for this fall’s awards-season harvest. But what of those worthy releases from the first part of the year — the critical and/or commercial darlings who may enjoy some longevity when it comes time for Oscar voting? There are at least a couple every year; now, at 2011’s midpoint , join Movieline in parsing out the likeliest among their ranks.

Eva Green and Naomi Watts to make the Dark Knight Rise

The Internet is abuzz with rumors that two extremely skin-friendly babes have been cast in the sequel that may be called The Dark Knight Rises —juggalicious Eva Green as villainess Talia al Ghul and booberiffic blond Naomi Watts as reporter Vicki Vale. Now that rumored title seems doubly appropriate. But there’s also word on the streets that those roles might be played by equally eye-popping talent like Keira Knightley , Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel . Or even Charlotte Riley , Kate Mara or Gemma Arterton . So far, the rebooted Batman franchise hs included Mr. Skin favorites Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal , both in the role of Rachel Dawes. And based on the contenders for this movie, they’re not trying to mess too much from the magic formula. So don’t be surprised to hear a little ping from the armor codpiece under Batman’s utility piece when the Dark Knight really rises.

So much for the bake-off! The Oscars used to release a list of seven semi-finalists for the Visual Effects category, eventually trimming the contenders down to a measly three nominees (which squeezed out films like Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen , and 2012 last year), but now that virtually every summer film has become an FX smorgasbord, the Academy has relented and expanded the nominee field to five. I guess until that happens we’ll just have to be satisfied with the simulacra, including Daniel Minahan’s forgotten mock-doc Series 7: The Contenders , on demand…

J anet Jackson – on American Idol? One can’t deny the very unforgettable event that occurred during the show. The very event that I am most definitely writing about is the unexpected Janet Jackson American Idol appearance where she made a special appearance and did a performance with the contenders of the ninth season of the show. The Janet Jackson American Idol surprise was something quite impressive and a good number of people  have been buzzing about the occurrence right after hearing about her new hair style. They say that she had her locks cut off because she has a new movie coming in. The movie is called “Why Did I Get Married Too” and it is expected to be a funny one if this ‘book’ may be judged by its cover. American Idol Season 9: Top 2 Finalists

This week, the contenders played the songs of their choice and also songs which were picked by the judges. The previously known top 3 composed of Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox and Casey James is now cut to top 2. The three faced the final elimination before the finale of season 9. Kara DioGuardi had a hunch that Crystal and Lee will face off in the finale, while Casey will be sent home. She was right! After the Wednesday’s results, Lee was the first singer declared by Ryan to be safe and without further delays; he also said that Crystal would be with him. At the end of the elimination night, it will be Crystal or Lee who are going to remain in the finals. Both contenders must give their best to be the next American Idol.
