College student in hot water for modifying consoles

A California state college student was arrested for modifying gaming console hardware to bypass copy protection technology. Matthew Lloyd Crippen , 27, or Anaheim was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Monday following indictment by a federal grand jury on two counts of violating provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ( DMCA ), each count carrying a maximum of five years imprisonment

Sony unveils two new e-readers

Sony unveiled two new e-readers on Tuesday which will compete with Amazon ‘s popular Kindle e-book readers in the emerging market for digital books, one of which stands $100 less than the Kindle.

Nintendo DS pirate gets jail time

A Japanese Nintendo DS game pirate has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison and given a nearly $100,000 USD fine, after being convicted of making 1000 ROMs of DS games available for download. The man, Yoshiaki Asagiri, was arrested in late 2008 and was charged with “distributing games online without permission” and the “breaking of Japanese copyright law,” says Kotaku
