Penelope: I’m Almost Free Of This Prison Just a few more steps, and I can flag down my Uber. 3. Mason: Grandma Screamed When She Saw Dad Naked When did she become such a prude? 4. Penelope: There Must Be a Child Services Button On This Thing No luck, but I did order 6 puppies. Clear your data next time, mom. 5. Penelope: There’s Vodka In Here No, I will not slow down. 6. Craig Strickland Found Dead; Country Singer Was 29

Craig Strickland –  the musician best known as the lead singer of country band Backroad Anthem – has been found dead. Strickland went missing  during a hunting trip with life-long friend Chase Morland on December 27. After Morland’s body was found near the capsized boat that he and Strickland had been using to hunt ducks near Ponca City, Oklahoma, officials began to fear the worst. Details are scarce at this time, but early reports indicate that Strickland’s body was eventually found several miles from where the boat was overturned. According to weather data from the area, Strickland and Morland would have found themselves in a severe winter storm with winds of up to 45 miles per hour and windchills as low as 15 degrees. The friends seemed to have some idea of what they were getting into, as Morland posted the following ominous tweet just hours before they departed: “In case we don’t come back, @BackroadCRAIG and I are going right through Winter Storm Goliath to kill ducks in Oklahoma.” An Arkansas native, Stickland lived in Fayetteville with his wife, Helen Wisner Strickland, whom he married in 2014. Strickland was a larger than life figure in his hometown, a phenomenon he addressed in the lyrics to “Small Town Fame,” a 2013 single he penned that eventually reached the number 24 spot on the iTunes country chart. Some of the biggest names in country music have already expressed their condolences to the Strickland family on social media. View Slideshow: Celebrities We Lost in 2015

Black Girls CODE Empowers Young Women Of Color To Fall In Love With Technology

Excerpt from:

It always feels like we’re making strides as a community and culture, until a study comes out telling us, but wait, there’s more. Not that all the data should be taken at face value, but it’s important to be aware of the messages being put out there. Take, for example, this recent study that says […]

Race Matters: New Study Shows Black Women And Men Get The Least Amount Of Responses On Dating Sites

Study Shows Blacks Get The Least Amount Of Responses On Dating Sites According to online data site Quartz , many single people still hold strongly to their racial and ethnic preferences when dating online …. The graphic shows what percentage of people responded to a “yes,” based on the gender and ethnicity of both parties (the data are only for opposite-sex pairs of people). Unsurprisingly, most “yes’s” go unanswered, but there are patterns: For example, Asian women responded to white men who “yessed” them 7.8% of the time, more often than they responded to any other race. On the other hand, white men responded to black women 8.5% of the time—less often than for white, Latino, or Asian women. In general, men responded to women about three times as often as women responded to men. Unfortunately the data reveal winners and losers. All men except Asians preferred Asian women, while all except black women preferred white men. And both black men and black women got the lowest response rates for their respective genders. Check out the graphic below: The most surprising stat is that among men, all racial groups preferred another race over their own. What do you think of the dating poll??

People Ain’t Isht: Professors And Students At Humboldt University Map Out The Most Racist And Homophobic States On Twitter!

It’s no shock that there are lot of thumb thugs that like to use their 140 characters to spread hate speech. Humboldt University Students And Professors Map Most Racist Twitter States Via GuardianUK Here on the data team, we tend to be skeptical about the accuracy of semantic analysis. But the students and professors at Humboldt State University who produced this map read the entirety of the 150,000 geo-coded tweets they analysed. Using humans rather than machines means that this research was able to avoid the basic pitfall of most semantic analysis where a tweet stating ‘the word homo is unacceptable’ would still be classed as hate speech. The data has also been ‘normalised’, meaning that the scale accounts for the total twitter traffic in each county so that the final result is something that shows the frequency of hateful words on Twitter. The only question that remains is whether the views of US Twitter users can be a reliable indication of the views of US citizens. Looks like all the racist and homophobic tweeters are on the midwest, south, and east coast. Maybe that legalized medical kush has folks on the west coast rolling up purp and tweeting in unity and peace. Image via Humboldt Continue reading

End Of Days: Head Google Exec Working On A Way To Bring People Back From The Dead

WTF?? Google Exec Working To Develop Way To Bring People Back From The Dead A director at Google is planning to try his luck and bringing his dead father back from the dead using a new tool that he’s currently developing. via Huffington Post Inventor Ray Kurzweil hopes to develop ways for humans to live forever, and while he’s at it, bring back his dead father. Behind him is the support of a tech giant. This month, Kurzweil, a futurist, stepped into the role of Director of Engineering at Google, focusing on machine learning and language processing. “There is a lot of suffering in the world,” Kurzweil once said, according to Bloomberg. “Some of it can be overcome if we have the right solutions.” Since his father’s death in 1970, Kurzweil has stored his keepsakes in hopes the data will one day be fed into a computer capable of creating a virtual version of him, Bloomberg reported. Interestingly, one of his novels lays out how humans might “transcend biology.” So much for the whole “Rest In Peace” thing. Would you want access to something like this if it actually becomes possible? Image via Shutterstock

Paul Ryan Interview: We Lost Because …

In his first interview since the 2012 election results dealt him a tough defeat, GOP V.P. nominee Paul Ryan admits losing came as something of a surprise. “We thought we had a very good chance of winning,” the 42-year-old said. Paul Ryan Interview “You know, the polling and the data and all the people who are the smart people who watch this stuff — they had a pretty optimistic view on the night.” “So as you can imagine, it was a bit of a shock when we didn’t win.” As soon as the final numbers on Virginia and Ohio began coming in, says Ryan, “we knew,” adding that President Obama won reelection fair and square. “I’ll let the pundits decide exactly how he won,” says the Wisconsin Congressman. “The point is, [President Obama] got more votes than we did. That’s how he won.” “The president deserves kudos for having a fantastic ground game. And the point I’m simply making is, he won. He won fair and square. He got more votes.” “And that’s – that’s the way our system works. And he ought to be congratulated for that.” Other takeaways from Paul Ryan’s interview with ABC News: He says Obama has no mandate because America also reelected the GOP House, including himself, and that the ideas he ran on are popular. The silver lining? More time with his family; he took a short vacation and didn’t even hear about the David Petraeus scandal until days later. He’s not thinking about the 2016 election . Is Diane Sawyer drunk all the time?
