Responds To HBCU Prostitution Scandal The nation’s first black sorority has issued an official statement on a prostitution scandal at a historically black college. As previously reported a woman named Alecia Jeanetta Johnson, the former executive assistant to the President of Fort Valley State University, was indicted for sex work and pimping. Prosecutors reported that the 49-year-old performed sex acts in exchange for money and arranged for another woman to provide sex services to prominent men in exchange for money. Now Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is releasing a statement confirming that the chapter with which Johnson was reportedly affiliated with at the school, Alpha Beta, has been fully reinstated after an internal investigation. The sorority adds that Johnson hasn’t acted as Alpha Beta chapter’s graduate advisor since 2014 and any reports otherwise are false. An exclusive statement from the sorority’s Executive Director Cynthia Howell was sent to Rolling Out magazine. “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated — now in our 111th year — is an organization committed to cultivating unity, health, education and human rights among women and confronting issues that concern our more than 300,000 members in 1,021 chapters around the globe. We hope that the indictments recently issued in the Fort Valley State University case will end the speculation and inaccurate information about Alpha Kappa Alpha that has circulated in the media since April 2018. “Any media coverage that identifies one of the individuals formally charged as the graduate advisor for Fort Valley State’s undergraduate chapter, Alpha Beta, is incorrect. The individual has had no direct supervisory responsibility for the chapter since 2014. It is unfortunate that the alleged misdeeds of an individual acting independently of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority have resulted in misconceptions and diverted attention from the honorable work our organization delivers to millions of people through a myriad of programs. “Alpha Beta’s status within Alpha Kappa Alpha was restored in 2018 following our own internal investigation,”. Based on the results of an in-depth review of the facts, we found no wrongdoing, and Alpha Beta was fully exonerated. The issuance of the indictments supports our conclusion. Furthermore, the chapter continues to remain in good standing with Fort Valley State University. “Now that the indictments have been issued, we hope the unsubstantiated innuendos and misinformation related to Alpha Beta will end. We commend the chapter members, who were subjected to degradation and humiliation as a result of the false claims, for their ongoing decorum over the past year. The young women of Alpha Beta chapter have demonstrated grace under pressure, poise and maturity as they proudly continue to support our focus on ‘Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service.’” Johnson faces six counts of prostitution, three counts of pimping and two counts of solicitation of sodomy. The Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office also indicted six men on one count each of solicitation of sodomy along with two counts each of pandering stemming from actions that allegedly happened in 2017 and 2018. NeNe And Gregg Talk Possible Divorce On RHOA Season 11 Reunion Part two of Bravo’s “Real Housewives Of Atlanta” reunion was a bit anticlimactic compared to the first but it still shone a light on someone’s marriage problems. It’s no secret that NeNe and Gregg’s marriage has hit a rough patch as Gregg continues to battle stage 3 colon cancer. And on Sunday, the couple told Andy that they’re sleeping in separate bedrooms and seeing a counselor. Andy also asked Gregg how he felt about NeNe revealing that he was previously unfaithful. Andy: “Do you wish that she had not revealed that you had cheated?” Gregg: “That was so long ago that that really just didn’t have any weight, the hurt from that got removed from me a long time ago.” Andy: “Maybe it didn’t get removed from you (NeNe)?” NeNe: “Maybe.” According to NeNe, 51, she’s still unsure if she wants to save the union she shares with Gregg, 63, who’s apparently been “mean and nasty” while she works as his caretaker. “I can’t tell you anything that I’m going to do,” said NeNe. I feel like I have been pushed up against a wall and I’m coming out as ‘no.’ … Anything is possible, we just have to see.” The Leakes married in 1997, divorced in 2011 and remarried on that “I Dream Of NeNe” Bravo special in 2013. Morehouse College told The Associated Press that their board of trustees voted Saturday to begin admitting transgender men next year. Students who identify as women but were born male cannot enroll, however and anyone who transitions from male to female will not be automatically eligible to receive a degree from the institution. “I think Morehouse having the courage to speak to issues of masculinity in today’s environment is important,” Morehouse College President David Thomas told The Associated Press. “For 152 years, the world has, in some way, seen Morehouse as the West Point of black male development.” The policy also states that Morehouse “will continue to use masculine pronouns” which it calls “the language of brotherhood”, reports AP. The move made by the alma mater of Martin Luther King Jr., Spike Lee and Samuel L. Jackson is, of course, drawing controversy, but school officials say it’s an “important step toward a more inclusive campus.” Morehouse is the first standalone all-male college to adopt a transgender men acceptance policy. More than 1,000 colleges and universities nationwide have adopted some form of a transgender policy, including about two dozen historically black colleges. A letter from President Barack Obama was read by Karen Civil at Nipsey Hussle’s funeral. In it, the President said while he’d never met Nipsey he was familiar with him because of Sasha and Malia. He also praised the late rapper for investing in his Crenshaw neighborhood and leaving a legacy. “I’d never met Nipsey Hussle, but I’d heard some of his music through my daughters, and after his passing, I had the chance to learn more about his transformation and his community work,” Obama begins in the letter. “While most folks look at the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and see only gangs, bullets, and despair, Nipsey saw potential,” he continued. “He saw hope. He saw a community that, even through its flaws, taught him to always keep going.” “His choice to invest in that community rather than ignore it — to build a skills training center, and a co-working space in Crenshaw; to lift up the Eritrean-American community; to set an example for young people to follow — is a legacy worthy of celebration,” Obama wrote. “I hope his memory inspires more good work in Crenshaw and communities like it,” he added. MacKenzie and Jeff Bezos announced the terms of their highly publicized divorce today. Jeff will maintain 75% of Amazon’s stock along with voting control of MacKenzie’s shares. MacKenzie also relinquished to him all of her interests in The Washington Post and the Blue Origin aerospace company reports CNBC. She will still have a 4% stake in Amazon that while doesn’t sound like much, is worth an estimated $35.6 billion. That makes MacKenzie the fourth richest woman in the world. The nearly ten-year-old accessories line photographed its employees in its NYC showroom, showing off new designs for backpacks, carryalls and fanny packs. Founder David Ben David said he wanted to honor Sprayground’s female staffers, calling these women were the backbone of his company who helped turn his surreal dreams into reality. David said women from diverse backgrounds making up a large portion of its senior management, from marketing and PR to merchandising and designing.
