Source: Sheri Determan/WENN.com / WENN Alicia Keys Speaks On Her Son’s Fear Of Being Different Alicia Keys took to Instagram recently to vent to her fans about how labels are getting in the way of people embracing who they really are. She opened up about these frustrations on Instagram after an incident with her four-year-old son, Genesis, who she took to the nail salon recently. While they were there, the toddler struggled with whether or not to go through with getting the rainbow colored nail polish he wanted. “He’s in the chair and he’s like, ‘I want [a] rainbow.’ So he tells the lady that he wants rainbow colors on his nails. And she brings all of these colors and she paints each nail a different color. And after she painted his nails, he looked at me and he said, ‘Mommy, I don’t want this on my nails,’” Keys said. When the songstress asked her son why, Genesis went on to explain that could have problems with the colors on his nails. “Can you believe this? 4 years old. He’s 4!” she said. “And he already understands the concept that someone is gonna judge him because he chose rainbow colors on his nails.” View this post on Instagram Been thinking about how over labeled and over judged we all are… can u feel me?? A post shared by Alicia Keys (@aliciakeys) on Nov 9, 2019 at 5:43pm PST Alicia encouraged her son to wear his nails proudly, telling her Genesis that people would love his nails because it showed off his creativity. She also assured the 4-year-old that a lot of men enjoy painting their nails. Ultimately, this incident left the singer thinking about how judgemental the world has become. “The way I see it, there is masculine and there are feminine energies inside of us all, period. It gets concerning to me that we can’t just explore these different sides of ourselves. These different energies that are within us.” She continued, “Even for me, myself, I oftentimes express the masculine energy that’s inside of me. And, all the time, if that happens, there are the judgments, and there’s the stereotypes, and there are all the energies that come towards that. And for my boys, [it’s] similar, if they want to express the feminine energy that’s inside of them. There’s all of these judgments, and all these rules, and stereotypes, and vibes.” Alicia wrapped up her venting session, saying, “We should be able to explore and express [our masculine and feminine energies] however we want to.”

Source: Raymond Boyd / Getty Professor Praised For Holding A Student’s Baby While Teaching Class Nathan Alexander, a visiting professor at Morehouse College , said he was just trying to help when he allowed a student to bring his infant daughter to his class on Friday, also volunteering to hold the child as he taught. Pictures of the unconventional classroom dynamic have garnered a lot of positive attention on social media, with a lot of people praising Alexander’s efforts to assist the student, Wayne Hayer, when he came to class while unable to find childcare. “I’m not an exception,” Alexander said in a telephone interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution . “We have teachers who (assist students in similar ways) every day.” Alexander said that he initially discussed the idea of the same student bringing his child to class a few weeks back, when Hayer said he couldn’t stay for office hours because he needed to go pick her up. Much t o the surprise of the professor’s, his student took him up on his offer and Hayer arrived to algebra class with his adorable baby girl dressed in a pink outfit. In the beginning of the class, Alexander noticed that Hayer was distracted with watching his child, which is when he offered to hold her, saying, “Hey, I’ll take her so you can take some good notes.” Alexander joined the Morehouse faculty in 2017 and said this was not his first experience allowing a student to bring a child to class. He recalled a student once bringing an 8 or 9-year-old to his class in the past. Nathan explained that these allowances are part of the mission of colleges such as Morehouse, the nation’s lone college for African-American men — men finding ways to help other men. The professor does not have any children himself, but said he believes it’s important to make such accommodations, when necessary, and knows many educators make similar decisions. “Teachers do this in their own way every day,” he said of those in his profession around the country. “This is what they do.” Check out some reactions below from everyone who has been touched by this precious story.
