A Lil Positivity: Morehouse Professor Holds Student’s Baby During Class Since He Couldn’t Get A Sitter

Source: Raymond Boyd / Getty Professor Praised For Holding A Student’s Baby While Teaching Class Nathan Alexander, a visiting professor at Morehouse College , said he was just trying to help when he allowed a student to bring his infant daughter to his class on Friday, also volunteering to hold the child as he taught. Pictures of the unconventional classroom dynamic have garnered a lot of positive attention on social media, with a lot of people praising Alexander’s efforts to assist the student, Wayne Hayer, when he came to class while unable to find childcare. “I’m not an exception,” Alexander said in a telephone interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution . “We have teachers who (assist students in similar ways) every day.” Alexander said that he initially discussed the idea of the same student bringing his child to class a few weeks back, when Hayer said he couldn’t stay for office hours because he needed to go pick her up. Much t o the surprise of the professor’s, his student took him up on his offer and Hayer arrived to algebra class with his adorable baby girl dressed in a pink outfit.  In the beginning of the class, Alexander noticed that Hayer was distracted with watching his child, which is when he offered to hold her, saying, “Hey, I’ll take her so you can take some good notes.” Alexander joined the Morehouse faculty in 2017 and said this was not his first experience allowing a student to bring a child to class. He recalled a student once bringing an 8 or 9-year-old to his class in the past. Nathan explained that these allowances are part of the mission of colleges such as Morehouse, the nation’s lone college for African-American men  — men finding ways to help other men. The professor does not have any children himself, but said he believes it’s important to make such accommodations, when necessary, and knows many educators make similar decisions. “Teachers do this in their own way every day,” he said of those in his profession around the country. “This is what they do.” Check out some reactions below from everyone who has been touched by this precious story. Bravo, @ProfessorNaite . And to your dedicated student. https://t.co/2a7OPApTTT — Ava DuVernay (@ava) March 2, 2019 @professornaite is one of my favorite professors!! Harry Styles & Tess Ward: Dating!

Harry Styles is about to pull a Zayn and embark on a music career sans the One Direction lads. He’s got his debut solo album set for release this week, and he’s soon to embark on a world tour, which means this is probably the worst possible time for the 23-year-old heartthrob to be starting a new relationship. But Harry Styles is as unconventional as his … hair styles (sorry), so he’s throwing caution to the wind and getting serious with a celebrity chef and food blogger named Tess Ward. “As soon as Harry met Tess there was an instant spark between them,” a source close to the couple tells The Sun. “They really bonded over their mutual love of quirky fashion and food – and things turned romantic quickly.” Yes, insiders say Harry loves Tess’ sense of humor and her unconventional approach to life. And we love that Tess is subverting expectations about what people who spend their days blogging and eating should look like! Of course, Tess is probably whipping up four-course meals while we keep forgetting to wipe the Cheeto dust off our fingers before typing, but we’re more or less in the same boat, when you think about it. “They’ve been on a number of dates while Harry has been in London and he’s already introduced Tess to some of his close friends including his personal stylist Lou Teasdale,” says the tipster. “This really seems different to Harry’s past relationships as Harry genuinely is besotted with Tess and doesn’t want to risk messing this one up.” Harry’s been involved in several high-profile relationships, but for the most part he seems to prefer monogamy to playing the field. Harry dated Taylor Swift  for several months back in 2012, and while that was obviously his most heavily-scrutinized romance, it wasn’t the last time he (allegedly) hooked up with a fellow celeb. There have been rumors about Harry hooking up with Kendall Jenner , but those remain unconfirmed. There have even been reports of a romance between Harry and Chelsea Handler , and while that one’s a bit tougher to imagine, stranger couplings have happened. It seems those closest to Harry and Tess believe them to be a perfect match. But with a 28-city tour kicking off this summer, the relationship will be road-tested early on.

Audrey Roloff: Reciting Marital Vows During Sex Is HOT!

Little People Big World ‘s Audrey Roloff  was a little bashful about sharing a new piece of intimacy advice on her blog, Beating 50 Percent . Audrey, who is married to reality star Jeremy Roloff, admitted that what she was about to explain was weird, but readers can do with it what they want. One person’s intimate moment is another’s horror story, according to Audrey. “On our honeymoon, I had this crazy idea… It has been one of my best-kept marriage secrets (something I have only shared with my closest friends) – until now. It’s too good to keep to myself;),” Audrey wrote. “So let me tell you about this immensely intimate idea, and why I think every single couple on the planet should try it at least once, if not every year on their anniversary. “Some of you may think it’s a little weird, but I’m choosing vulnerability in the hopes that it might inspire you! This is something Jer and I have both committed to do on Beating50Percent – be honest and transparent. “So before you roll your eyes and call me crazy, just here me out here….” Audrey went on to explain how important her wedding vows were and still are, and how she waited until the night before the ceremony to write them so that they reflected how “mentally, emotionally, and spiritually present” she was. “We both brought our crumpled paper vows with us on our honeymoon, and had planned to re-read them to each other again at some point,” Audrey explained. “Then I had this crazy idea…. ‘What if we read our vows to each other while having sex…? “This thought was immediately followed by an insecurity, ‘Jeremy will probably think that’s SOOO weird… and I mean… how will that even work…?’ Well, kids, it involves some multi-tasking and cardio training… “One afternoon,” Audrey continued, “we laid in bed waiting out a Jamaican thunderstorm and reminiscing on our wedding day, when I mustered up the confidence to blurt out my unconventional idea, ‘Babe, you know how we wanted to reread our vows to each other just the two of us? Well… what if we did that… while having sex…’ View Slideshow: 22 Candid Celebrity Sex Confessions “I remember the look of astonishment that fell over Jeremy’s face, and I wasn’t sure if it was the good kind or bad kind… But then he said something to the effect of, ‘Whoa (probably ‘Holy Smokes’)… Let’s do it.’ “I’ll spare you the details, but it was the most intimate thing we have ever done in our marriage, and probably the most intimate thing I have ever done in my life . And one that left you a bit winded, I’m sure. “The act of becoming physically and verbally one (at the same time), ensues an ocean of intimacy that I cannot attempt to describe. It’s the best version of ‘sex talk.’ Y’all… don’t think about how it works, just try it.” So…there you have it.  Sex advice from a 24-year-old.

Oscars and Obsession: Keira Knightley Talks About ‘Jumping Off A Cliff’ For Joe Wright In ‘Anna Karenina’

At a time when General David Petraeus’ affair with his biographer has become a media obsession, Leo Tolstoy’s 19th-century tale of love, adultery and aristocratic downfall,  Anna Karenina ,  is more relevant than ever. And yet, with more than two-dozen film and TV adaptations of the novel in existence,  director Joe Wright  faced a daunting challenge: bringing a fresh perspective to the classic story. The gamble is whether its unique twist will translate into Oscar nominations. The sumptuous but unorthodox path he took — depicting pivotal scenes as if they were taking part on a theater stage — was akin to “jumping off a cliff” says Keira Knightley , who plays the movie’s title character, an alluring Russian aristocrat who breaks entrenched societal taboos and embarks on a torrid love affair with the affluent soldier, Count Vronsky. “I don’t know that we did know it would work,” said Knightley. “With Anna Karenina , it’s been done so many times before and there was a sense that if you’re going to tell this story again, you might as well do something that’s out there.” “Out there” includes depicting scenes of the titled heroine (or anti-heroine) on a stage as her marriage and social status disintegrates and she becomes the subject of societal scorn. “The worst thing we could do is fail,” said Knightley. “It was a constant conversation between us to make that balance work. But everyone was so deeply into it.” Wright, who directed the film from a screenplay adaptation by Tom Stoppard, decided just weeks before the shoot to re-work the film with the stage component. Knightely said the change threw the cast, which includes Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, into a bit of a frenzy. But she added that the group was determined to give it their all — even if there was a chance it wouldn’t work. “[Joe Wright] demands 110%. He demands complete obsession and that’s exactly what he gives back. It makes him an extraordinarily magical person to work with and frightening to work with because it’s not a job in which you go home from. It’s everything from the time that you’re making it, and I think that’s one of the reasons people said ‘let’s do it’ with this concept.” She added: “He’s one of those people you go with and say, ‘let’s jump.'” Getting to know Anna Karenina — the character and novel — was also an evolution for Knightley who had a completely different take on the book after re-reading it before production began. The first time she read it as a “sweeping romance,” but the second time she wondered if Tolstoy despised Anna. “I remember thinking [most recently] — and people will disagree with me on this — that Tolstoy hates her and I’m not sure that she’s the heroine. I think she’s the anti-heroine,” said Knightley. “She is the whole of Babylon — she’s the person to be judged. But then [Tolstoy] does at times understand her and is completely in love with her. And that’s the dichotomy of Anna and what has made her an object of fascination for so many years,” Knightley explained. “You’re not really sure what to feel about Anna. She is deceitful, manipulative and needy. But she is also wonderful, lovable, and full of energy and love. She’s all those things.” Knightley also observed that Anna is a character that makes one take a look at their moral universe, and the actress said she took great pains to keep her from coming off as a gilded cliché. “She is a creature that makes you look at yourself because you are judging this person, but then you think, ‘Do I have a right to do that?'” said Knightley. “The people we hurt the most are the people we love the most. And that’s what she does. The difficulty in playing her is you don’t want to simplify that. The easy thing to do would be to make her the victim and Karenina the bad guy and I didn’t want to do just that.” When the film comes out this Friday, there will likely be another dichotomy: Audiences and critics who love the unconventional stage settings interspersed with more-or-less more traditional linear storytelling and those who’ll object. But Knightley is pleased with what will hit the screen. “I think it’s absolutely extraordinary. I haven’t seen anything like it. I think it’s always going to be something that some people won’t like, but I’m very proud of it. If you’re talking about cinema as an event – it is certainly an event. You only see naturalism in film at the moment. Whether you think it’s over-stylized or not, you have to celebrate the fact that it’s so completely different. And I really love it. And I love how daring Joe has been and I’m very glad I jumped off the cliff with him.” Follow Brian Brooks on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Kristen Stewart Talks ‘Hard Love’ In Toronto For On The Road

Kristen Stewart fans may have been disappointed that the Twilight superstar did not make an appearance at last week’s MTV Video Music Awards, but crowds here in Toronto had the chance to see the actress on the red carpet for the North American premiere of Walter Salles ‘ On The Road along with fellow cast members Garrett Hedlund , Kirsten Dunst , Amy Adams and Sam Riley . Stewart spoke with ML about the part she had actually landed before she filmed her first Twilight installment. Stewart shared her thoughts on the steamy relationship between her character Marylou and Hedlund’s Dean Moriarty — a life-long relationship that was rife with affairs, drugs and a wild ride on the road. [ PHOTOS: Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, and Kirsten Dunst at the Toronto premiere of On The Road ] “They really are ‘simpatico.’ It was a tumultuous relationship. And it’s hard to love like that, but they were so in love with each other and you don’t know this from reading the book, but they stayed lovers until the end of his life,” Stewart said during a conversation with ML at a Toronto hotel over the weekend. Stewart first read On The Road as a high school freshman. A short time afterward, she was approached by director Walter Salles who had been told to consider Stewart for the part of Marylou after fellow filmmakers saw her in Sean Penn’s Into The Wild and suggested that he consider the young actress. The project took a number of years before the actual shoot commenced and in the meantime, Stewart began doing the enormously popular Twilight series, propelling her fame into the stratosphere. “I got the [ On The Road ] job on the spot and I drove away vibrating,” Stewart said. In the film version of the book written by Jack Kerouac, Stewart plays the unconventional free-spirit Marylou, the former wife and still frequent lover of Dean Moriarty, a fast-talking charismatic with an insatiable libido. Dean and best friend Sal (Sam Riley), a young writer whose life is shaken after Dean’s arrival take to the road. Marylou frequently accompanies Sal and Dean’s travels across the country in adventures fueled by sex, drugs and the pursuit of the “It” – a quest for understanding and personal fulfillment. “He kind of raised her and she always had a place in his heart, even though there were a lot of spots in that heart, but she was definitely one in the center and the same goes the other way around,” Stewart said of Marylou and Dean, the On The Road names of the real-life individuals described by Kerouac. “They both helped each other grow up.” One of the seminal works of literature of post-war America, On The Road took decades to be made into a film, even after Francis Ford Coppola acquired the filmmaking rights to the story. Stewart said she believes that society may have not been ready to see On The Road in theaters in the immediate years after the book was published, acknowledging that the film, which has not yet been rated, is racy. “I think it’s a good time to see this story visually because we are not shocked by some of the things that we were so shocked by before and it would have veiled it,” said Stewart. “It would have been so shocking seeing people doing drugs and having sex that you wouldn’t have seen the spirit of [ On the Road ]. You wouldn’t have seen the message behind it. Maybe it would have been good because it would have forced people to look, but maybe they weren’t able to do it then.” She also expressed the need for young people to have dreams and a zest for life, similarly to the characters in the film, even if those dreams are not fully comprehended. “At that stage of your life there’s so much ahead of you, at least it feels that way. At that age you need to have a faith and feelings you can’t articulate yet because at some point you need to hold onto them and you’ll find the words to describe them.” [ Movieline will have more from our interviews with Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, and Walter Salles this week. ] Read more from the Toronto Film Festival. T.I. Supports President Obama On Same-Sex Marriage Stance

‘I think that you should be able to do whatever you want to do,’ T.I. tells ‘RapFix Live’ about his stance on same-sex marriage. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway T.I. on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News President Obama is no stranger to hip-hop’s support. Not only have MCs dedicated songs to the 44th U.S. Prez, but guys like Jay-Z , Diddy and Ludacris have openly backed Barack. While many criticized Obama for his support of same-sex marriage , Hov backs him, and so does T.I. “Just to speak honestly and being frank, I don’t care,” the “Live Your Life” MC said about the non-stop debate on same-sex marriage when he appeared on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” “I think that if a matter doesn’t affect your daily life, you shouldn’t take a hard stand on it. If it’s not something that directly affects you, if it doesn’t affect you, what difference does it make to you what other people are doing with their lives?” Tip, who is currently serving probation stemming from his 2007 weapons arrest, is unable to vote, but once his probation is lifted in September he revealed that he plans to vote for Obama, who will be looking to secure a second term as head of state. “I don’t think that’s a hard question,” he said. During an interview with CNN on Monday, Jay applauded the president for speaking out in support of the gay-rights movement. “I’ve always thought it as something that was still holding the country back,” Jay-Z said. “What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple.” “I think that you should be able to do whatever you want to do,” T.I. remarked. “I don’t see how it matters one way or another.” Related Videos T.I. Usher Unveils ‘Nostalgic’ New Song ‘Twisted’

Looking 4 Myself track featuring Pharrell is classic R&B but ‘very relevant,’ superstar says on ‘MTV First.’ By John Mitchell, with reporting by Sway Calloway Usher Photo: Jessica Hyndman / MTV News Usher sat down for an exclusive “MTV First” interview about his hotly anticipated upcoming release, Looking 4 Myself , his unconventional album-listening experience with the off-Broadway show “Fuerza Bruta” and to give fans a first listen to the Myself track “Twisted” featuring Pharrell. He told MTV News’ Sway Calloway the song is a “nostalgic record” that reflects the album’s ambitious aim to represent the variety of musical experiences that have impacted the R&B superstar. ” ‘Twisted’ is more of a nostalgic record, so when you think about the classic R&B record, we managed a way to modernize it, even though that’s very relevant,” the singer said. “You hear records like Cee Lo, you hear Bruno Mars and also Andre 3000, and that sound is very relevant in this time. So this was kind of our way to tie it all together and give you something different that you probably wouldn’t normally get from me.” Adapting current sounds and making them his own is a theme Usher is bringing in earnest to Looking 4 Myself and also reflects his philosophy of how to stay in the game. The star released his self-titled debut in 1994, when he was just 16, and has gone on to sell over 65 million records worldwide and score nine #1 songs and six more top 10 hits. As for how he’s managed to stay on top for so long, Usher revealed that it’s important to never be insular when it comes to music. “Life is a workout, man, it’s like a treadmill, and you gotta be with it, you gotta just stay with it,” he said. “For me, I’ve had the fortunate ability to always be mindful of other things and other people. I’m not so caught up in what I’m doing that I can’t be cognizant of what other people enjoy. … Now, I think music should be used as a channel to really allow people to have different experiences. So, this album is all about bottling up those different experiences.” The connecting tissue that’s given Usher the ability to explore world music — from full-on dance tracks like his new single “Scream” and his collaboration with David Guetta, “Without You,” to more classic R&B slow jams like “Climax” and the old-school spare drum beat of “Twisted” — while delivering cohesive records has been his voice, which he said brings “the essence of soul and emotion” to each record. “All of my career is kind of an unveiling, an unfolding story, and it ain’t done. There’s so much more that I’m going to do, so much that I’ve now just been interested in and been introduced to,” he continued. “I just want that experience of having this very monogamous relationship with entertainment and acting in a way where I can really, really focus and become better.” Usher’s commitment to tackling the changing face of music head-on and forging new roads in entertainment as he matures — he is currently training for a Sugar Ray Leonard biopic — is the key to his success, he said, concluding, “It’s all about evolution for me.” Share your review of “Twisted” in the comments below!
