Rumor Control: Aaliyah’s Brother Rashad Releases Statement; Says Her Family Is Not In Support Of Any New Aaliyah Albums

The Haughtons are not feelin Drake’s super-stan steez! Aaliyah’s Brother Says Her Family Is Not In Support Of A New Album Yesterday rapper turned full-time Aaliyah-stan Drizzy Drake released a new track featuring himself and the late singer after he hinted at producing a new Aaliyah album earlier this week. Shortly after, super producer and close friend of the fallen starlet Timbaland expressed his dislike for any new Aaliyah album production process that didn’t include himself or fellow rapper/producer Missy Elliot, who was also a close friend of Aaliyah. Well, Aaliyah’s family says regardless of who is rumored to be producing or releasing new Aaliyah album material, it’s not happening. Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton has announced that he and his family will not be supporting any posthumous album in works of the late singer. Rashad took to Aaliyah’s official Facebook page to confirm that their family will not be endorsing the reported album by Drake or any other producer working on a record featuring vocals from the deceased singer. “There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family,” Rashad wrote. Earlier in the year, Rashad denied any plans for a posthumous album being released after Drake hinted in an interview that he is working on something special in the name of the ‘More Than A Woman’ singer. Timbaland revealed this week that he will be working on a couple of tracks that will appear on the album. Sounds like there are some missing pieces to this puzzle. If Aaliyah’s family is not in support of an album, then why are the people in the music industry who were closest to her continuing to claim otherwise? Something isn’t adding up… Source

A Lil Hometown Positvity: Drake Pays Tribute To Toronto Shooting Vicitms; Calls For An End To ‘Senseless Violence’

Oh, the irony…. Drake Pays Tribute To Toronto Shooting Victims On Twitter Drizzy Drake took a moment to pay tribute to the young vicitms that lost their lives during a shooting rampage in his hometown Toronto, Canada on Monday. He urged hi fans to fight against ‘senseless violence’  even though he busted Chris Brown in the mouth with a bottle last month . Drake has called for an end to violence in his native Canada after two lives were claimed in a mass shooting on Monday. A neighbourhood street party in Toronto ended in bloodshed after gunmen opened fire, killing 14-year old Shyanne Charles and Joshua Yasay, 23. Another two dozen revellers, including a toddler, were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. Drake has since taken to his Twitter.com page to pay tribute to the slain youngsters, while appealing for peace in his hometown. He writes, “My condolences go out to the family and friends of Shyanne Charles and Joshua Yasay. Senseless violence in Toronto has to stop.” Police suspect gang members were behind the rampage, and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward. Do as I say and not as I do , huh Drizzy? Hopefully he takes his own advice as well. Source

Drake Says ‘Young Sweet Jones’ Reference Pays Tribute To Pimp C

‘I feel like I’m extended UGK family,’ Drizzy tells Mixtape Daily of controversy from Pimp-inspired ‘Put It Down’ verse. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: Octobers Very Own The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Drake lays his game down flat on Bun B’s “Put It Down,” from the certified classic Trill O.G. “I just bought a car/ The n—a Pimp owned it,” Drizzy rhymes on the chorus, paying homage to UGK’s Pimp C. “I threw some tints on it/ He would have loved it how/ Put it down, put it down.” In his guest verse, the Toronto native says, “I got 100 girls in each phone/ Drizzy Drake mane, Young Sweet Jones.” Sweet Jones, of course, was the late Pimp C’s nickname. In fact, a posthumous Pimp album, due on October 5, is titled The Naked Soul of Sweet Jones. (Drake makes a guest turn on a track called “What Up.”) The 23-year-old Young Money franchise player says he’s heard about the small undercurrent of controversy stemming from his tribute-paying reference to the legendary Texas street general. But according to Drake, there was absolutely no disrespect intended. “I just feel that I’m a huge Pimp supporter,” explained Drake, who sends the MC an R.I.P. at the end of his verse. “I’m a huge Pimp fan. I feel like I’m extended UGK family. Bun and Pimp are like uncles, dads to me. They’re G’s. [When I’m around them], I feel like I do around my uncles. They’re still the coldest cats in the world, but Bun makes me feel … he’s a legend. His presence, it’s like me calling myself Young Bun B, [when I call myself] Young Sweet Jones. “It’s just seeing a bit of them in myself; by no means did I mean to offend. I heard it was somebody upset about me making that reference. I think it was somebody in his family or something. But I never mean any disrespect. I love rap. Young Sweet Jones is just a little nickname. People really started calling me that before I ever said it in a rap song. I used to rep for Houston so hard. They just be like, ‘Man, that’s Young Sweet Jones right there.’ I just put it in a song. And it sounded dope.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
