Lindsay Lohan To Be Released From Jail

Actress will reportedly have to wear SCRAM bracelet again upon release. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lindsay Lohan in custody on Friday (Sept 24) Photo: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department/ Getty Im Lindsay Lohan is expected to be a free woman once again after a second judge agreed with her lawyer that the actress is entitled to bail. Since Lohan’s jailing Friday (September 24), lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley was reportedly working to get her client the option of posting bail . The Los Angeles Times reports that on Friday afternoon, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Patricia M. Schnegg overturned Judge Elden Fox’s order and granted the actress $300,000 bail. TMZ adds that Lohan will have to be outfitted with a SCRAM bracelet within 24 hours and avoid venues where alcohol is the “chief item of sale.” Lohan sported a SCRAM bracelet this summer, which reportedly went off at a party, an incident that ultimately led to her July prison sentence. Lohan was sent to prison exactly one week after she admitted to failing a court-ordered drug test , the screening being one of many conditions the starlet had to adhere to after back-to-back stints in jail and rehab. Judge Fox ordered Lohan to be held without bail until a scheduled October 22 hearing in the case. The move was reportedly a tactic to keep the actress in prison instead of sentencing her outright, which might have cleared the way for early release due to overcrowding. “Ms. Lohan cannot be released early because this isn’t a jail sentence,” L.A. Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told People on Friday. “She’s being held by court order until her hearing on October 22. She will be held in the same conditions as her last stay, in a keep-away unit.” Lohan has been frank about her struggles with addiction and recently tweeted about her willingness to face the repercussions of her actions after reports of her failed drug test surfaced. “Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result,” Lohan tweeted last Friday. “Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future. … This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences.” In July, Lohan served 13 days of a 90-day jail sentence over a probation violation stemming from a 2007 DUI conviction. She followed up the jail time with 23 days court-ordered rehab, a fraction the court’s original mandate of 90 days. Diplomats Announce Reunion Show, Talk Kanye West Dis

‘I ain’t got no problem with Kanye,’ Cam’ron says regarding ‘Runaway’ freestyle’s apparent jab. By Shaheem Reid Diplomats Photo: Donjai Jim Jones said the Diplomats are getting their “Kumbaya” on right now. The Harlem team is at peace, the camaraderie is heavy and Friday (September 24), on New York’s Hot 97 , they announced their Dipset reunion show. Jones, Cam’ron, Freekey Zekey and Juelz Santana told radio personality Angie Martinez that they will have their first performance in years November 27 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. “The table is bigger,” Juelz said. “It’s pretty much the same, in a sense. We all have the same respect for each other. Cam is still the Boss. Jim is still the Capo.” “But we all make one conscious decision,” Jones jumped in. “Everything you’ve seen thus far, it was all a conscious decision of everybody calling each other: ‘You sure you wanna do this? You OK with this? OK, we good.’ ” “You gotta look at people different,” Cam added about reuniting after having tasted success as individuals over the past few years. “I don’t want my mother talking to me today like she was talking to me when I was 8. I’m not 8 years old anymore. At the end of the day, you supposed to learn. You supposed to grow, and you know your stuff. We come from under the Dame Dash umbrella.” Recently, Cam threw a shot at another guy who was groomed in part by Dash, Kanye West. On a freestyle over ‘Ye’s “Runaway” beat, Cam rapped, “And Kanye, you a sucka n—a./ Dissed Dame, so my attitude is f— the n—a/ Stuck to Jigga, how you gon’ live with that?/ Took the beat, now come get it back.” “I ain’t got nothing to say,” Cam answered about why he jabbed at West. “Only thing I got to say is, a lot of people say I dissed Jay on that song. I didn’t dis Jay on that song. For real, I’m from Harlem. I respect people getting money. Jay is getting mad cake. I respect his hustle, his grind. … Everybody throw subliminals. They say subliminals and don’t wanna say who they throwing the shots at.” When asked what provoked the line on the freestyle, Jones said: “Blouses. Shouts to Kanye. It’s fun. It’s hip-hop. Cam is probably one of the best rappers in the past 10 years.” “I ain’t got no problem with Kanye, man,” added Cam, who said he was telling the truth about ‘Ye in his rhymes. “He didn’t really dis him on the record,” Jones jumped back in. “He just pointed something out.” Are you happy the Dipset are back together? Actually, all the females are hitting me on Twitter,” he said. “It’s actually funny and flattering to know fat n—as getting pu— all around the world. Spiff TV pulled it up on the laptop. When I saw the screenshot of it and saw the first few seconds of it, I was like, ‘Damn. My mom taught me when I was young, never lay on hotel spreads.’ They was laying on some cheap-ass hotel spreads that had probably had all kinds of sh– on it, because they don’t really wash the spreads as often as they do the sheets. Drake Says ‘Young Sweet Jones’ Reference Pays Tribute To Pimp C

‘I feel like I’m extended UGK family,’ Drizzy tells Mixtape Daily of controversy from Pimp-inspired ‘Put It Down’ verse. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: Octobers Very Own The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Drake lays his game down flat on Bun B’s “Put It Down,” from the certified classic Trill O.G. “I just bought a car/ The n—a Pimp owned it,” Drizzy rhymes on the chorus, paying homage to UGK’s Pimp C. “I threw some tints on it/ He would have loved it how/ Put it down, put it down.” In his guest verse, the Toronto native says, “I got 100 girls in each phone/ Drizzy Drake mane, Young Sweet Jones.” Sweet Jones, of course, was the late Pimp C’s nickname. In fact, a posthumous Pimp album, due on October 5, is titled The Naked Soul of Sweet Jones. (Drake makes a guest turn on a track called “What Up.”) The 23-year-old Young Money franchise player says he’s heard about the small undercurrent of controversy stemming from his tribute-paying reference to the legendary Texas street general. But according to Drake, there was absolutely no disrespect intended. “I just feel that I’m a huge Pimp supporter,” explained Drake, who sends the MC an R.I.P. at the end of his verse. “I’m a huge Pimp fan. I feel like I’m extended UGK family. Bun and Pimp are like uncles, dads to me. They’re G’s. [When I’m around them], I feel like I do around my uncles. They’re still the coldest cats in the world, but Bun makes me feel … he’s a legend. His presence, it’s like me calling myself Young Bun B, [when I call myself] Young Sweet Jones. “It’s just seeing a bit of them in myself; by no means did I mean to offend. I heard it was somebody upset about me making that reference. I think it was somebody in his family or something. But I never mean any disrespect. I love rap. Young Sweet Jones is just a little nickname. People really started calling me that before I ever said it in a rap song. I used to rep for Houston so hard. They just be like, ‘Man, that’s Young Sweet Jones right there.’ I just put it in a song. And it sounded dope.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . ‘Devil’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics praise M. Night Shyamalan-produced flick as ‘a terrific little horror thriller.’ By Eric Ditzian Bojana Novakovic in “Devil” Photo: Universal Pictures Don’t you dare say elevators are dull. You might fall asleep standing up while riding to your appointed destination, but Hollywood has something of a love affair with that utilitarian contraption . Christopher Nolan blew our minds this summer with his elevator scene in “Inception.” Stanley Kubrick unleashed a terrifying river of blood from behind those sliding doors in “The Shining.” And James Cameron has worked elevator action into “Aliens,” “Terminator 2” and “True Lies.” The latest to join these rather elevated cinematic ranks is M. Night Shyamalan. He’s the brains behind “Devil,” a new horror flick with a simple premise: What if you were unlucky enough to ride along with Satan? Shyamalan recruited Brian Nelson (“30 Days of Night”) to pen the script and John Erick Dowdle (“Quarantine”) to direct. The movie arrived in theaters Friday (September 17). Here’s what the critics are saying: The Story “While the mostly unknown actors have their shaky moments, there’s a silver lining; unlike in many horror movies these days, it’s unlikely you’ll guess the order in which characters die. Five people are stuck in a malfunctioning elevator. All of them are suspicious types with shady histories. And thanks to some largely unnecessary voice-over, we’ve been given the heads-up that the Devil occasionally likes to round up a few sinners into a place of no escape, and torment them to death as the world watches and becomes more cynical as a result. In effect, this means that every few minutes, the lights in the elevator go out, scary noises are heard, and when they come back up, something horrible has happened and the surviving captives go even more nuts. Meanwhile, the cops outside try to figure out possible motives for whatever it is that’s going on, while trying to break in and free the lift-bound. ” — Luke Y. Thompson, E! Online The Lowdown on M. Night “Perhaps if M. Night Shyamalan is planning to work as a producer (and not a writer/director) for a few more years, I’d say that ‘Devil’ is most definitely a welcome step in the right direction. He’s the one who hatched the simple-yet-nifty concept, he’s the one who hired Nelson and Dowdle, and he’s the one who keeps making my beloved Philadelphia look so damn pretty on film — so clearly the man still has some skills for scary storytelling. Frankly I think M. Night still has too much talent to stay ‘disappointing’ forever, and if slight-yet-entertaining matinee-style horror flicks like ‘Devil’ are what he’s focused on, I think that’s good news for everyone.” — Scott Weinberg, FEARnet The Dissenters “Cinematically, ‘Devil’ has no particular style other than to tell the story in the most direct way possible. Even the sequences where the lights flicker and evil has its way with the elevator people (as seen in the trailers) are unoriginal, flat in tone and far from shocking. So what does ‘Devil’ have to offer the horror community at large? Not a whole hell of a lot. The bloodshed is light, the deaths mundane and the supernatural aspects kept to an extreme minimum. Maybe the title Lil’ Devil would have been more accurate since that’s the amount you are going to get.” — Nomad, Dread Central The Reveal “If you’ve watched enough films like this, you may also guess which one the ‘Devil’ is 2 minutes in, and though the film made a great effort to throw the audience, I was a little disappointed to find out I had been right. However, the climax is frightening, almost living up to the promise of all that’s happened before, and the way the ending is handled feels rewarding and satisfying. After the immaculately wrung tension of the last 80 minutes, I felt like I’d seen an excellent film. Yes there were moments that could’ve been scarier or more tensely handled, but that’s nitpicking. In its own right it’s a terrific little horror thriller. Surprisingly gore-light, it chooses to scare you with atmosphere and tension instead, and it does a tremendous job at it.” — Ben Greene, MovieWeb The Final Word “For all its preaching about guilt, redemption, punishment and salvation, ‘Devil’ delivers its chills in a compact, efficient package of extreme close-ups, decently-timed surprises and the terror of dread-anticipation. It’s not great, but it’s not bad, and the fellow who foisted ‘The Happening,’ ‘Lady in the Water’ and ‘The Last Airbender’ on the faithful would take that praise any day. No doubt the mind of M. Night is troubled that he didn’t get a directing credit (John Erick Dowdle of the taut and tense ‘Quarantine’ did) for a movie that at least doesn’t further devalue his brand.” — Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel Check out everything we’ve got on “Devil.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Drake Says T.I.’s Legal Troubles An ‘Unfortunate Situation’

‘The man that he is, the trouble he gets into doesn’t reflect the person he is,’ T.I.’s friend and collaborator says. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News There was one person conspicuous by his absence Sunday night during Drake ‘s performance of “Fancy” at the VMAs . Drizzy had special guests Swizz Beatz and Mary J. Blige join him onstage, but the other person who performs on the album version of he record, T.I., was not there. Tip has been dealing with matters more important than entertainment lately. T.I. was arrested for alleged drug possession in Los Angeles at the beginning of this month, and there is a chance that his probation could be revoked. While rehearsing for “Fancy” at the VMAs, Drake sat down and reflected on his friend’s circumstances. “I care about Tip a lot,” Drake said. “He’s held me down since the beginning. He’s always been extremely nice to me and embraced me. Before he went to prison, to this day, I still talk about the conversation he had with me about the game and trying to stay focused. “It hurt me the other day that somehow he found himself again in that kind of predicament. Especially with [the success of the movie] they just had out [‘Takers’]. It’s a personal thing. I’m not really here to say things about another man. Tip is a very smart man. I just think that, a part of me wishes he realized the power in the movement he has and what a legend he is and not get in trouble anymore. I just wish that wouldn’t happen. The man that he is, the trouble he gets into doesn’t reflect the person he is. He’s just a great individual. Yeah, it’s an unfortunate situation,” Drake continued. Related Artists Drake T.I.

Rick Ross Stands By T.I., Talks New Collabos

‘Regardless of what it is, you don’t turn your back on him,’ Ross says of Tip’s legal issues. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News No matter what, Rick Ross said he’s going to stand by his friend T.I. The King of the South is in some serious trouble and could have his probation revoked after he and his wife were arrested earlier this month on drug charges . “I think just being firm and being men of our word is what that’s about at the end of the day,” Ross said last week in L.A. during VMA weekend about supporting Tip. “Once you become an ally and a partner, you anticipate the ups and the downs. You gotta be a soldier. The shoe is gonna be on the other foot, either way it goes, when you getting money in the streets, period. Just being G’s, man. It is what it is, man. A lot of times, these situations be blown out of proportion and made into a lot bigger than what they are. “As long as the real G’s and the leaders set the example of ‘This is what you do when your brother gets into trouble,’ ” Ross added. “Regardless of what it is, you don’t turn your back on him; you ride with him. … You gotta stick to the script. When situations come, you stay firm. If that’s your homie, that’s your homie.” Several years ago, before Ross and Tip met, Ricky Rozay publicly denounced Tip over a misunderstanding. Since then, however, all ill will has been quashed between the two, and not only have they become cool, they have worked together several times on other artists’ tracks. This year, Ross pulled Tip in on his Teflon Don album via “Maybach Music III.” Tip called on Ross for a track on the upcoming King Uncaged album, “Pledge Allegiance to the Swag.” Ross said “Pledge” and two other new songs were recorded with Tip while the two were in Miami. “I’mma be honest: That was the first time me and the homie actually got in the studio and I saw him work his magic,” Ross recalled. “To be honest, I was blown away by the homie. He came by the spot. He was like, ‘I’m in Miami. I’m in a good mood, big homie.’ He had just tied his knot. Congratulations to him and Tiny. He was like, ‘I’m swinging through the city.’ I was like, ‘Come through. I’m over at my spot. The Swisher Suite. Let’s get it in.’ The homie came through, walked in. I had the beat on. Your man Tip, 10 minutes tops, ‘Let’s record.’ The homie laid his verse. We played some more music. Another 10 minutes, laid another verse. So he actually did two features for me. I did his feature. We got it all done in a matter of time. Left, went to the club after that.” What do you expect from Ross and Tip’s new collabos? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop)

RZA Wowed By Kanye West’s ‘Runaway Love’ Remix

Justin Bieber remake with Raekwon takes ‘the past generation to the next level,’ says Wu-Tang Clan super-producer. By Shaheem Reid RZA Photo: MTV News Kanye West recently mixed music worlds like a Ron G blend. The Chicago icon flipped the beat from Wu-Tang’s “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F’ Wit,” poured in Justin Bieber’s syrupy vocals from “Runaway Love” and created a b-boy-approved remix. Kanye and the Clan’s Raekwon Chef , of course, also rap on the new rendition. Before the VMAs on Sunday, MTV News hit the white carpet and spoke with the RZA — the producer of “Ain’t Nothin’ ” — who said ‘Ye definitely had his blessing to bring back his classic 1993 beat. “That was crazy,” RZA said of the Biebs’ remix. “[Kanye’s] boy called me up like, ‘Yo, we got the remix. Check this out.’ I was like, ‘Wow. Yo. What a collabo.’ I think that’s good to see. It’s always good to see each generation take the past generation to the next level, man. That’s what we do. We all inspire each other. As artists, we’re allowed to do that. So it’s all good love, man.” RZA is now on his way to China to begin directing a kung-fu flick called “The Man With the Iron Fist.” But music is still heavy on his radar: He’s contributing to Kanye’s upcoming LP and he and Nas have been in talks about working on the Queens legend’s new opus. “Escobar is one of the best MCs to ever bless the mic,” RZA said about Nas. “We’re still trying to figure our schedule out. We both got a lot of big life ahead of us. But we’re getting in. We’re gonna make that classic. You know what it is. Last time, Nas did a verse for me that was on ‘Verbal Intercourse.’ That was a classic. To get back in and make another classic like that would be real good.” What other generation-spanning hip-pop collabos would you like to hear? Tell us your ideas in the comments! Travie McCoy Remembers Tupac Shakur’s Death 14 Years Later

McCoy was still in high school, but he vividly remembers the sad day. By Shaheem Reid Travie McCoy Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Monday (September 13) is the 14th anniversary of the death of Tupac Shakur . Pac died in 1996, after succumbing to gunshot wounds he suffered a week prior when leaving a Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas. Travie McCoy still vividly remembers the day. He said he did not believe the news at first. “I was still in high school,” McCoy recalled at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday in Los Angeles. “I was a freshman. I got to school and kids were crying. Kids were upset. I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ I hadn’t heard the news. I thought somebody in the school had died. They was, ‘Nah — Tupac didn’t make it.’ My jaw immediately dropped. My school took it upon themselves to play R.E.M.’s ‘Everybody Hurts.’ It was pandemonium. Everybody burst in tears, in pieces. It was a sad day. He was a fallen soldier to say the least.” Like so many others, McCoy loved Shakur’s music but he also respected the rap legend as a person. “I came up on Pac. I think I might have given [my cousin] Tyga his first Pac record,” Travie said. “I just got tingles thinking about that day. Thinking about hearing one of the saddest songs played over the loudspeaker in school when he got killed. It’s a shame. But his music lives on. I was listening to All Eyez on Me three days ago.” Meanwhile, veteran rapper-producer David Banner also recently commented about Pac’s passing. In an MTV News interview Friday , Banner said, “It was bigger than the death of a rapper. It was the death of an icon for young people … Pac was deeper than music.” Share your memories of the day Tupac died in the comments below. Related Artists Travie McCoy
