Vince Vaughn is taking aim at the national gun control debate. The actor, who will play a central role on True Detective Season 2 this summer, has opened up to the latest edition of British GQ, making it very clear where he stands on the second amendment and school safety. “You think the politicians that run my country and your country don’t have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do,” Vaughn said. By that logic, he argues, shouldn’t all kids be afforded the same protection? “I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home,” he continues. “We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government.” Although no one out there is trying to ban guns as a whole, Vaughn still claims the concept is a non-sensical one: “Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won’t rid the world of criminality.” In closing, the actor blames the outbreak of school massacres directly on the fact that there are policies against allowing guns on campuses: “In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f-cking schools because they know there are no guns there. “They are monsters killing six-year-olds.” On that latter point, no one can disagree. But where do you stand on the rest of Vaughn’s argument?
