Vince Vaughn is taking aim at the national gun control debate. The actor, who will play a central role on True Detective Season 2 this summer, has opened up to the latest edition of British GQ, making it very clear where he stands on the second amendment and school safety. “You think the politicians that run my country and your country don’t have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do,” Vaughn said. By that logic, he argues, shouldn’t all kids be afforded the same protection? “I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home,” he continues. “We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government.” Although no one out there is trying to ban guns as a whole, Vaughn still claims the concept is a non-sensical one: “Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won’t rid the world of criminality.” In closing, the actor blames the outbreak of school massacres directly on the fact that there are policies against allowing guns on campuses: “In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f-cking schools because they know there are no guns there. “They are monsters killing six-year-olds.” On that latter point, no one can disagree. But where do you stand on the rest of Vaughn’s argument?

A few weeks ago, word got out that Colin Farrell was in talks to star in True Detective season 2 . Neither Farrell nor HBO has come forward to deny the rumor, so at this point we can pretty much assume it’s a done deal. The only question remaining, then, is who will take on the role of Farrell’s inevitably boozy, brooding partner in crime (solving)? Well, if you guessed Vince Vaughn, then clearly time really is a flat circle and you’ve been through this before, because that pretty much would’ve been out last guess. Sure, Vaughn has taken on dramatic roles in the past (with mixed results), but he’s hardly the first name that springs to mind when you think of subject matter as relentlessly dark as True Detective’s. Of course, negotiations are still in the early stages, and Vaughn is said to be in competition with some seriously in-demand actors, including cultishly beloved Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch. Rumors that Jessica Chastain would star in True Detective season 2 were shot down by both the actress and series creator Nic Pizzolatto within hours of hitting the Internet, so unless the same happens here, we think it’s a safe bet that Vaughn is at least in talks for a lead role. No word on whether Owen Wilson will join the cast as a wisecracking Yellow King. True Detective Season 2: Who Should Star? 1. The Kardashians Stop or their mom will shoot… you with a camera she borrowed from E! for some reality show footage.

Let the rehabilitation of Lance Armstrong begin? The Hollywood Reporter reports that Ben Stiller and his producing partner Stuart Cornfeld have commissioned screenwriter Clay Tarver to write a sequel to Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story , and I think it could be a key public-relations opportunity for the disgraced Tour de France cyclist. If your memory needs recycling (ba-dump-bump!), Armstrong appears in a key cameo in the movie, where Vince Vaughn’s character, Average Joe’s Gym owner Peter La Fleur is about to quit his underdog team and Armstrong shames him into reconsidering . In the aftermath of Armstrong’s doping scandal, that scene looks ironic and tragic today. But…America loves comeback stories, and if the former champion would be willing to take it on the chin comedically, I bet he could make a little progress in rehabilitating his tarnished image post-Oprah. The sequel is supposed to be about Vaughn’s character and Stiller’s character, White Goodman from Globo Gym , teaming up to battle “an even bigger threat,” as the publication reported. And Armstrong’s cameo could be as simple as having him seek redemption on La Fleur’s team or play for one of the competitors that Average Joe’s faces. Either way, he should get beaned real good in a creative elimination scene. Even better: an encounter between La Fleur and Armstrong that would reference the first cameo. Once again, Armstrong would have to agree to take it on the chin. That could be deep and cathartic in a comedic way. It would definitely be more effective than drumming for the reggae band Lance Herbstrong, which Armstrong did on April 20 at the Austin Reggae Festival: Give The Drummer Some…Redemption While we’re on the subject of returning Dodgeball characters, Jason Bateman ‘s loopy ESPN 8 — The Ocho! — color commentator Pepper Brooks is a must . To paraphrase the Who’s classic song ” Won’t Get Fooled Again” : See the new trailer/Same as the old trailer. Seriously, there’s not a whole lot different in the second official trailer to be released for the Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson buddy comedy The Internship . We get the same fisting joke, the same Flashdance riff, scenes of a smarmy Max Minghella being an ageist dick, and, oh wait, here’s something that’s different: In the new trailer, Google executive Mr. Chetty ( The Daily Show ‘s Aasif Mandvi) gives the interns a little HR quiz and asks them if dating a fellow intern is okay. Google HR Training Video #1 In the second trailer, Mandvi asks — cue dramatic music — a different question: whether having a beer with your boss is kosher. What’s not different: Vaughn and Wilson answer “Yes” to both questions when…the answer…is…no! Google HR Training Video #2 If you notice any other differences, please reveal them in the comments section. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.
