How the Censors Cock-Blocked Sucker Punch

Turns out that director Zack Snyder and leads Emily Browning and Jon Hamm did have the breast interests of peter-pullers in mind when they filmed the new nudity-free slo-mo fest Sucker Punch – it was those mean ol’ censors who did the movie in. Emily told this tale of woe to Nylon magazine: “I had a very tame and mild love scene with Jon Hamm. It was like heavy breathing and making out. It was hardly a sex scene… I think that it’s great for this young girl to actually take control of her own sexuality. “Well, the MPAA doesn’t like that. They don’t think a girl should ever be in control of her own sexuality because they’re from the Stone Age. I don’t know what the fuck is going on and I will openly criticize it, happily. So essentially, they got [director] Zack [Snyder] to edit the scene and make it look less like she’s into it. And Zack said he edited it down to the point where it looked like he was taking advantage of her. That’s the only way he could get a Pg-13 (rating) and he said, ‘I don’t want to send that message.’ So they cut the scene!” Jon Hamm and Emily Browning? That’s a makeout session with something for everyone! Seriously, people, the PG-13 is ruining skinema. What we need is a motley crew of crazy but sexy teen girls to take the MPAA down with samurai swords….oh no, wait. Never mind.

‘Sucker Punch’ Stars Hope Action Flick ‘Hits You In The Gut’

Vanessa Hudgens teases MTV News at the film’s premiere, ‘Sucker punch means you don’t know what’s coming.’ By Kara Warner Emily Browning, Jamie Chung and Vanessa Hudgens at the L.A. premiere of “Sucker Punch” Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images For those who’ve seen the trailers, TV spots and highly stylized posters, you’re likely aware that “Sucker Punch” descends upon theaters on Friday. Zack Snyder’s estrogen-fueled flick has been billed as a curious, complex, action-adventure-fantasy, but despite the promotional push, it’s safe to say that plenty of people are still scratching their heads, wondering, “What the heck is ‘Sucker Punch’?” MTV News headed out to the film’s star-studded, slightly rain-soaked premiere in Hollywood on Wednesday night to find out. “Sucker punch means you don’t know what’s coming,” Vanessa Hudgens said simply. “It’s being knocked out by something unexpected,” co-star Jena Malone added. “Sucker punch is this idea of taking an unexpected blow,” Abbie Cornish said, adding in a brief plot summary to her definition as well. “A lot of the girls are totally unprepared for what’s about to happen to them. They’ve been living in this institution and Baby Doll [played by Emily Browning] comes along and changes their whole perception of freedom, of hope, of escapism,” she explained. “And so their ways of life are challenged, they’re sucker-punched with this whole idea of freedom.” Director Zack Snyder, who created the story along with co-writer Steve Shibuya, continued with the “expect the unexpected” theme. “I think it means two things: If you have preconceived ideas about what these girls are capable of, you’re going to get a sucker punch,” he said. “And also too, there’s actually a thing in the movie, a physical thing that supplies the sucker punch as well.” Carla Gugino said the title of the film and the idea itself are fun because there’s a lot left up to interpretation or theories. She also echoed the sentiments of her co-stars. “To me, a sucker punch is one of those things you least expect, that you’re unprepared for, but that hits you in the gut,” she said. “And I think that hopefully this movie is, and this movie embodies that.” Are you planning to go see “Sucker Punch”? Emily Browning Talks Auditioning For ‘Hunger Games’

‘Sucker Punch’ star also opens up about declining ‘Twilight’ audition. By Terri Schwartz Emily Browning Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images The role might have recently gone to Jennifer Lawrence , but there was a point in time when “Sucker Punch” star Emily Browning might have played District 12 champion Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming Lionsgate adaptation of “The Hunger Games.” “I read for [‘Hunger Games’] a couple of times, but I’ve never read the book, to be honest — which I know is terrible of me,” Browning said in an interview with the Playlist . “I was nervous about it.” Despite the fact Browning started out her acting career as one of the leads in an adaptation of a popular children’s series, it was that experience that turned her off from moving on to starring in the young-adult genre. She admitted that there was a period of time between when she filmed 2004’s “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” and when she agreed to come onboard Friday’s “Sucker Punch” that she seriously considered quitting acting altogether. It was during that time that she found out “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer said she would be the perfect Bella Swan for the upcoming adaptation of the novel, but Browning wasn’t ready to commit to a franchise. “I was just exhausted, and I was like, ‘I’m sorry, but I just can’t sign onto a trilogy right now,’ ” Browning told MTV News in 2009, after she finished “The Uninvited.” “To be honest, if I had gone on to do the film straight after ‘The Uninvited,’ I would not have been a good Bella . and I’m hoping people realize that now.” But it was the fact that she was vilified for reportedly turning down the “Twilight” role that caused Browning to remain so hush-hush about trying out for “Hunger Games.” “It’s always hard for me to talk about these kinds of things, because I know there was a big deal with ‘Twilight’ and my involvement with people wanting me to do ‘Twilight,’ so I’m always like, ‘Oh, people love this book so much, I don’t want to get involved, I don’t want to talk about it!’ ” Browning explained. “I read for [‘Hunger Games’] a couple of times, but I think every single girl in Hollywood read for it a couple of times, to be honest.” Would you have liked to see Emily Browning play Katniss Everdeen or Bella Swan? Emily Browning Bares Sleeping Boobies for Upcoming Film

Mr. Skin does not mince words when it comes to Zack’s Snyder’s epic nudity fumble Sucker Punch , and assumes that the film’s lack of boobs is a sick, sick joke based on its title. A gang of hot young female mental patients fight bad guys with samurai swords and NOT ONE of them takes her top off? That’s practically the definition of a sucker punch here at Skin Central. They might as well have called it Bait and Switch. Thankfully star Emily Browning has taken pity on frustrated male fans and recently shot her first nude scene for the upcoming film Sleeping Beauty. (Another misleading title; the film is not an erotic update of the fairy tale, but a sex work drama.) The 22-year-old Australian actress discusses the experience in a new interview for W magazine, where she said: “It was terrifying, but being able to push myself was really cool.” Keep on pushing yourself, Emily, and we’ll keep on pulling!

Vanessa Hudgens Says ‘Sucker Punch’ Would Be ‘So Badass’ In 3-D

‘Having my tomahawk fly towards your face, [it would be] just too cool,’ she tells MTV News of Zack Snyder flick. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Tim Kash Vanessa Hudgens Photo: MTV News Vanessa Hudgens’ upcoming film roles are definite departures from her squeaky-clean work in “High School Musical” — particularly in the upcoming action-thriller “Sucker Punch,” directed by “300” helmer Zack Snyder. When MTV News recently caught up with the young star, she revealed just how different the role really is. Hint: She’s traded singing for slinging bullets. Although the film will present at Comic-Con this weekend, Hudgens said it is far from completion. “It’s probably, definitely not done,” she said. “There’s so much CGI in it, it’s ridiculous.” Regarding the film joining in on the popular 3-D trend, Hudgens was enthusiastic about “Sucker Punch” going that route. “It would be so badass,” she said. “It’s already really badass, but having it in 3-D … having my tomahawk fly towards your face, [it would be] just too cool, you know?” Speaking of badass, Hudgens continued to cite the gun-slinging as her favorite aspect of filming. “Shooting a .50-cal [machine gun], there’s nothing like it,” she said with a smile. Hudgens added that she and her female castmates (including Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish and Emily Browning) found a new sense of empowerment with their gun-wielding skills. “I think all of us girls loved it so much. We’re all strong individuals, and when you give us a gun … you kind of unleash something.” Hudgens is also excited for fans to see a sneak peek of footage, which will premiere at Comic-Con in San Diego. “I’m going for the first time, and I’m so excited!” she exclaimed. “I want to go dress up in a mask or paint my face so I can walk around in the crowd.” Most of all, Hudgens can’t wait to see the first clip from the film, which is slated to premiere Saturday. “I’m really excited [for fans to see it]. There’s this beast that’s been unleashed with all of this. … I’m a lot tougher, stronger, badass — I don’t want to sound cocky, but it’s cool.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Sucker Punch.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
