Cardi B Makes History With Her Best Rap Album Win At The 2019 Grammys

Source: Kevin Winter / Getty Rap’s Cinderella  Cardi  B beat out a tough Best Rap Album crowd to take home the gramophone on Sunday night and in the process, she made a little bit of history too. With her win, Cardi B is the first solo female rapper to ever take home the crown of Best Rap Album. The only other woman to have claimed to the award is  Lauryn Hill who won as a member of  The Fugees with  The Score in 1997. The union of Hill and Cardi seems to be coming up plenty over the last year and a half. Like Hill, Cardi is the only other female rapper to have a solo No. 1 song on the Billboard chart as “Bodak Yellow” assumed the top spot in 2017 as “Doo Wop (That Thing)” did in 1998. The Grammys created the Best Rap Album category in 1995 with  Naughty By Nature taking home the initial award. The category has been dominated by  Eminem and  Kanye West.  Em has six wins in the category and four of Kanye’s first five albums, beginning with  The College Dropout  in 2005 have won the most Best Rap Album Grammys. Congrats to Cardi on the history-making win! Who Won America’s Next Top Model?

America’s Next Top Model courted some major controversy on its season finale tonight, as finalist Angela Preston was disqualified… with little explanation provided. Sources say she was given the boot for leaking spoilers about the cycle, while some go as far as to validate this claim… and add that she was actually named the winner, until The CW was forced to reshoot the finale. The network, meanwhile, simply said in a statement: “After production wrapped on the current cycle of America’s Next Top Model , we learned information that made Angelea ineligible and she was subsequently disqualified from the competition. As a result, new scenes were filmed to address this for the audience during the finale.” That shocking development resulted in a rather anti-climactic conclusion, but Lisa D’Amato took home the crown after dominating on the runway. For winning the first-ever All-Stars cycle, Lisa earned a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl, along with a spread in Vogue Italia and a guest correspondence role on Extra . “It’s crazy! It’s absolutely crazy! I feel incredible,” said the 30-year old after hearing her name called as the champion. “To be honest, my confidence actually comes from a very vulnerable place. It’s not that I’m over-confident. It’s just that I have to life myself up every day. I have a lot to prove. I feel like the universe finally came around for me and I’m not going to let anybody down. I won America’s Next Top Model All Star. It’s pretty damn cool.”

Damien Echols 1994 and today picture

Damien Echols, 36, spent half his life locked up in an Arkansas prison after being convicted of the grisly homicides of three 8-year-old boys in 1993. For the past few weeks, Damien Echols, who has spent the past 18 years in a tiny cell on death row, has been walking the streets of his newfound home in a happy daze. “This thing has a map on it!,” Echols laughs, stopping for a moment to fumble with his new iPhone. “Can you believe that? A map on a phone!” Last month, in a surprise twist that f

Pia Toscano’s Early Exit Shakes Up ‘American Idol’ Odds

Bodog now has Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina as the favorites to win season 10. By James Montgomery The “American Idol” top 8 Photo: Michael Becker / FOX Pia Toscano’s early exit from “American Idol” has shocked experts , celebs and fans . And, as it turns out, it was also a shock to a group of folks who don’t get shocked all that often: oddsmakers. It seems that, in the wake of Toscano’s elimination, the brain trust at Bodog’s sportsbook has been forced to rejigger their odds. For weeks, they slowly moved her up the list of likely “Idol” winners — she originally opened as a 14/1 long shot , but heading into Wednesday night’s show, she was a 2/1 favorite to take home the crown — and now that she’s out, they’ve anointed Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina as the new co-favorites. Bodog gives both singers 5/2 odds at winning “Idol,” followed by James Durbin at 4/1. Haley Reinhart gets 15/2 odds, Casey Abrams gets 8/1 and Paul McDonald is in at 12/1. Jacob Lusk and Stefano Langone bring up the rear, getting 14/1 and 20/1 odds, respectively. And though they were forced to re-shuffle, the folks at Bodog have let the initial shock of Toscano’s departure wear off. Because, as they put it, no matter how hard anyone tries, it’s often impossible to make sense of the whims of “Idol” voters. “From the beginning of the season, Pia Toscano had been a popular bet who … was a clear favorite to win it all,” Bodog sportsbook manager Richard Gardner said. “It may be a shock that she was sent home, but with all the contestants putting on a solid performance the other night and the track record that this show has for voting the wrong people through, I am not surprised at all.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
