Jeremy Rosado Sent Home On ‘American Idol’

As the bottom two contestants, the wild-card pick squares off against Elise Testone. By James Dinh Jeremy Rosado on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Capping a week of tunes from music greats Stevie Wonder and the late Whitney Houston , Jeremy Rosado was sent packing during the “American Idol” results show Thursday night (March 8), marking the first Top 13 farewell. Before the elimination was announced, the episode kicked things off on a lighter note as host Ryan Seacrest welcomed the contestants to perform Wonder’s 1977 hit “As.” And after all the introductions, usual Ford product placement and recapping, it was time to get down to business. First up on the chopping block were the female contestants, who were eventually narrowed down to the bottom three: Elise Testone, Erika Van Pelt and Shannon Magrane. The trio of male contestants included Jermaine Jones, Jeremy Rosado and Joshua Ledet. Seacrest’s “after the commercial break” intensity ended with Rosado and Testone as the finalists with the lowest votes after Wednesday night’s episode. Leaving the deliberation up to judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, it was Rosado (originally a wild-card choice) who was announced as this week’s eliminated contestant. Asked what he would miss about “Idol,” Rosado simply told Seacrest, “Just the whole experience.” “This was awesome. … Thank you guys for everything,” he said. As a special guest mentor on this week’s episode, Mary J. Blige also took to the “Idol” stage to perform her new single “Why.” Additionally, “Idol” welcomed back season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina, who offered some Southern charm with a performance of her single “Georgia Peaches.” What did you think of Jeremy’s elimination? Adele Retakes #1 Slot On Billboard

Christian rockers Casting Crowns, R&B singer Joe debut in top 10. By Gil Kaufman Adele Photo: Jon Furniss/ WireImage She may be on vocal rest , but Adele has something to shout about this week, as her unstoppable 21 will once again retake the #1 spot on the Billboard 200. According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, despite a 5 percent drop in sales last week, the album sold nearly 106,000 copies, helping the British crooner pass the four million mark while never dropping below the #3 spot and notching 13 non-consecutive weeks at #1. Christian rockers Casting Crowns are just behind at #2 with their latest, Come to the Well, which moved 99,000 copies. It is one of only two debuts in the top 10, which also includes R&B singer Joe ‘s The Good, the Bad, the Sexy (#8, 33,000). The rest of the top 10 is filled with albums that suffered double-digit sales losses: Scotty McCreery , Clear as Day (#3, 57,000, down 36 percent); Evanescence (#4, 40,000, down 69 percent); Tony Bennett , Duets II (#5, 39,000, down 29 percent); Lil Wayne , Tha Carter IV (#6, 35,000, down 22 percent); Lady Antebellum , Own the Night (#7, 34,000, down 27 percent), Five Finger Death Punch , American Capitalist (#9, 29,000, down 68 percent) and Lauren Alaina , Wildflower (#10, 26,000, down 63 percent). The next-highest debut is by veteran alt rockers Jane’s Addiction , whose fourth album, The Great Escape Artist, lands at #12 after moving nearly 24,000 units. Close behind is French electronica act M83 , whose Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming hits #15 (21,000), and much further down the list, former Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump slips into the top 50 at 47 with his solo debut, Soul Punk (9,000). On the iTunes albums chart the pre-release sales for Coldplay ‘s Mylo Xyloto helped catapult that band to #1, ahead of Adele, Casting Crowns, the “Footloose” reboot soundtrack, Evanescence, M83, Foster the People ‘s Torches , Jane’s Addiction, the second album from the Tool side project Puscifer and Lil Wayne. The singles tally is topped by Rihanna ‘s ” We Found Love,” which beat out LMFAO ‘s “Sexy and I Know It,” Drake ‘s “Make Me Proud,” Adele’s “Someone Like You” and Justin Bieber ‘s “Mistletoe.” Foster the People are at #5 with “Pumped up Kicks,” ahead of Maroon 5 ‘s “Moves Like Jagger,” David Guetta ‘s “Without You,” Gym Class Heroes ‘ “Stereo Hearts” and Coldplay’s “Paradise.” Adele will likely have to chill a bit next week when new albums from Kelly Clarkson , Coldplay, Toby Keith and Vince Gill hit the charts. Evanescence Comeback LP Hits #1 On Billboard

Debut album from ‘American Idol’ runner-up Lauren Alaina enters chart at #5. By Gil Kaufman Evanescence Photo: Wind-up Records Amy Lee and Evanescence will be back in a familiar place next week with their first album in five years. Evanescence’s self-titled effort will hit #1 on the Billboard 200 on sales of 127,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. While impressive, the sales were less than half of what the band’s 2006 sophomore album, The Open Door, sold (447,000) in its first week in 2006. Hard rockers Five Finger Death Punch lock down the #3 slot with American Capitalist (91,000), easily besting “American Idol” runner-up Lauren Alaina, whose Wildflower hits the chart at #5 on sales of 69,000. Also debuting in the top 10 are Ryan Adams ‘ 13th effort, Ashes & Fire, which sold 49,000 copies, and country star Martina McBride , whose Eleven sneaks in at #10 (40,000). Rounding out the top 10: Adele , 21 (#2, 111,000); “Idol” champ Scotty McCreery ‘s debut, Clear as Day (down 55 percent in its second week to #4 on 88,000); Tony Bennett , Duets II (#6, 55,000); Lady Antebellum , Own the Night (#8, 47,000); and Lil Wayne , Tha Carter IV (#9, 45,000). In a week when most of the hold-over in the top 15 lost ground, the only gainer is Foster the People ‘s five-month-old debut, Torches, which is up 19 percent to #12 (27,000). Joe Jonas ‘ debut solo album, Fastlife, pops in at #15 (18,000) and the soundtrack to the shoots up 120 spots to #16 as sales soared by more than 400 percent to 18,000. Further down the line, Icelandic conundrum Bj

Kid Cudi Talks Growth, New Single And Quitting Drugs

‘I like myself better off drugs … it’s about becoming mature,’ Cudi tells MTV News about recording after giving up marijuana. By Rob Markman Kid Cudi Photo: MTV News Kid Cudi doesn’t care what you think about his music — he likes it and that’s that! Last week, Cudders dropped his new Dot Da Genius-produced single, “Perfect Is the Word,” and it was quite different from what some fans were used to getting from the Cleveland representative. “I’m very proud of it; it’s something that a year ago I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I’d be able to do. It’s different, I get that,” Cudi told MTV News while on the set of his HBO show, “How to Make It in America.” “Some people are going to get it, some people aren’t. That’s cool. I just don’t really give a f— who does and who doesn’t. I mean, I care about the people that do, because that means, alright cool, there some people who have an open mind, who are smart and who get art.” The “Day N Nite” star has been transcending the lines of rap music with each new release, and on his latest song, Cudi goes for a distinctively dark rock feel. He is especially proud of the fact that he was able to play the guitar on the track and deliver something worth recording. “It’s just some people who are very one-track minded. The world that I am coming from, hip-hop, is so regurgitated and repetitive that some people are used to that and they don’t want change, they don’t like change,” Cudi maintained. “And I get that, that’s cool. Luckily for me, I’m confident in myself as an artist where I can do what I want, and as long as I’m cool with it, I’m cool with it.” “Perfect Is the Word” is the first track from Cudi and Dot Da Genius’ upcoming Wizard album , and while the song is different, it isn’t the only change that the musician has exhibited this year. In February, the G.O.O.D. Music artist took to Twitter to announce that he was leaving the Dream On label, which he launched back in 2009 with partners Patrick “Plain Pat” Reynolds and producer Emile Haynie. He also assured fans that he was still with Kayne West’s G.O.O.D. Music. That wasn’t all, though: In April, Cudi revealed that he’d quit smoking marijuana on his Tumblr page. The rapper, who used to call himself the Lonely Stoner, now is experiencing a bit of backlash, but he remains undeterred and is pleased with his new material. “There were a lot of write-ups where people were just sh–ting on it and there were a lot of people who were like, ‘We liked you better when you were on drugs,’ ” he said with disappointment. “It’s kinda like, ‘Man, OK, well you weren’t a fan to begin with so f— you,’ and I like myself better off drugs. So it’s about me and it’s about evolving and it’s about change. It’s about becoming a man; it’s about becoming mature.” Ultimately, Kid Cudi just wants room to grow. “Ten years from now I’m going look at my discography and I’m gonna be proud of it,” he said. “I don’t want to be 10 years from now looking at my discography, like, ‘Man, I was a f—ing knucklehead when I made that.’ ” What do you think of Kid Cudi’s post-marijuana work so far?
