Outkast, Mariah Carey, And The Neptunes Are Among This Year’s Nominees For The Songwriters Hall of Fame

Source: WENN.com / WENN The Neptunes, Outkast, And More Nominated For Songwriters Hall of Fame Outkast and The Neptunes are among the nominees for this year’s induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame . The production-songwriting duo that is Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo ran the radio throughout the ’90s and well into the 2000s, crafting hits for Britney Spears, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, and Beyoncé, are nominated for the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame. Of course, Outkast is in the running for the writing they did on their own verses throughout more than a decade of chart-topping and critically-acclaimed albums. Twenty-four acts are in contention for the 2020 class. Performing nominees include Patti Smith, Journey, Vince Gill, Gloria Estefan, the Isley Brothers, former Eurythmics members Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, Mike Love, Bread’s David Gates and Steve Miller. Mariah Carey, who co-wrote 17 of her 18 No. 1 hits and earned her first Songwriters Hall nomination last year, is up for the prize again. Non-performing solo nominees are William “Mickey” Stevenson, Rick Nowels, Sonny Curtis, Jerry Fuller, Tony Macaulay, Bob McDill and Roger Nichols. Non-performing songwriting duos nominated include the late Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, L. Russell Brown and the late Irwin Levine, and Kye Fleming and Dennis Morgan. In order for songwriters to be eligible for induction, they have to have been writing hit songs for at least 20 years. Among these two dozen acts nominated, six songwriters, or songwriting groups, will be officially inducted at the Hall’s 51st annual Induction & Awards Gala in New York on June 11, 2020. Eligible members can vote for three non-performing songwriters and three performing songwriters until December 16. Who do you think is most deserving of the crown?

Did This Nike Vaporfly Sneaker Help The NYC Marathoner Winner Run 26.2 In Just Over 2 Hours?

Source: Patrik Lundin / Getty Kenyan marathoner Geoffrey Kamworor won the 2019 NYC Marathon on Sunday, coming in first place. This is the second New York City Marathon he was won in three years. The runner should be celebrating his win; however, it was his fashion choice that have left people skeptical. Kamworor was wearing the controversial Nike Vaporfly 4% sneaker, a shoe that boasts research that shows it helps runners go faster. Source: ALEX HALADA / Getty This shoe was also worn by Kenyan runner (pictured above) Eliud Kipchoge who wore the same shoes for the Vienna marathon, that allowed him to run it in under 2 hours, the fastest recorded time ever. However, his speed of 1:59:40 didn’t get counted as a world record because “it was not run under open marathon conditions and because it featured a dense rotation of professional pacesetters,” according to the New York Times . Kipchoge was also wearing these infamous shoes. Source: ALEX HALADA / Getty When Kamworor won the marathon this past Sunday in 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 13 seconds, there were cheers, but also whispers that the magical shoes had helped him cross the finish line. He was met by Kipchoge, who also is his team mate. Many marathoners and elite runners are switching to these shoes. In fact, Kamworor set the world record for fastest half marathon (58 minutes, 1 second) while wearing Vaporflys. Is this a coincidence? The 4% comes from the fact the shoe’s soles have an amalgamation of foam and carbon fiber plates which structurally help push runners forward for each stride. Researchers unaffiliated with Nike did a study in February of this year and found that the shoes improved runners’ stride and energy efficiency by 4% as compared to other running sneakers. Knowing this as well as the knowledge that recent world record holders have worn these shoes, makes one wonder if the sneakers are giving them an advantage. Kanworor was questioned regarding this at the 2018 New York City Marathon and answered, “I don’t think that the shoe is a factor. Provided that you are prepared, that you are training hard, you can run with any kind of shoe. So the shoe is not a disadvantagee to other people.” However, that’s not what research shows. Beauties, what do you think? Did the shoe give an unfair advantage? Sound off in the comment section! N.O.R.E Dubs ‘Jesus Is King’ Trash, Calls Out Kanye For Dodging Black Media

Go here to read the rest:

Source: Phillip Faraone / Getty Hip-Hop veteran N.O.R.E has decided to weigh on Kanye West ’s latest release,  Jesus Is King and the review is nothing short of comical. During an interview with Nick Cannon on Power 106 in Los Angeles, N.O.R.E was asked about his thoughts on the newly released project, when the “Super Thug” rapper frankly labeled it “trash” before poking fun at Kanye for what he deemed as fumbling the Clipse reunion. “I love Kanye,” N.O.R.E said. “I wanna be clear, how the f*ck you got Clipse on a record that’s not good? Jesus is mad at this n*gga.” But the album wasn’t the only thing that rubbed N.O.R.E. the wrong way about Kanye’s latest release, the Queens Hip-Hop veteran also revealed that Kanye’s lack of  Black outlets regarding the stops during his current press run to promote the album also made him a little upset. “I’ma be honest, I’m a hater. I’m kinda hater. Let me explain why,” N.O.R.E. continued. “Zane Lowe is a person that I respect but I don’t respect. As a person who made the War Report album, I’ve done records with Mariah Carey. When I see you ever go to any place other than us—the culture—I have a problem with that.” N.O.R.E may have an issue with Kanye’s press run stops, but Kanye himself has already let his Black fans know that their opinion really doesn’t matter. During his interview with Big Boy of the Big Boy’s Neighborhood , Kanye said he “doesn’t care” about Black Twitter’s opinion of him, only God’s, this before stating that he does care about white Twitter. ”I was having a conversation with Jay Brown and we were talking about everything and I remember I just went off and was like ‘I don’t care about your opinions. I don’t care about what Black Twitter or what anyone has to say, the only opinion I care about is God’s,” Kanye said. He added, “I am happy that [white Twitter] is a term, because I do care about it. I care about Jack Dorsey the owner and good friend of mine that comes over to my house for dinner, gives me business advice and looks over my contracts and respects me. He is my favorite founder.” Check out N.O.R.E’s interview below. — Photo:

Halloween Appropriation: Is Our Diction More Damaging Than The Costumes Themselves?

Source: SOPA Images / Getty Halloween can be a fantastic time for those that celebrate it. While it’s geared towards children, adults fall into the fun as well ! Costumes are sold online, in stores, in fact, there are even pop up Halloween stores specifically selling items for this one evening. While it can be fun to dress up as your favorite celebrity, movie character, childhood character, meme, and more and there are so many creative ways to construct a costume (or just buy one), you can take the fantasy too far. Halloween has become associated with cultural appropriation because people may dress up in costumes, not knowing the history behind it. Worst of all, there seems to always be a case(s) of Blackface every year, which naturally let’s me know that Halloween is also a time that some choose to offend. In the age of Google, it’s hard for me to accept that someone just didn’t “know”. Doing the research on your costume and spending some time thinking about why you want to have this costume should lead you to know whether it’s a smart idea or not. People choose ignorance. Source: SOPA Images / Getty However, when will we acknowledge that our diction is more damaging than the costumes themselves? It comes out in marginalized communities like minorities and the obese . Growing up, I recall Black people saying, they were going to be the “ Black version of Ariel ” or “the Black Belle.” Yes, we have evolved and have our own Black princesses (shout out to Tiana), it still seems like a limitation for when we dress up for Halloween. We should just be able to imagine those characters in our own image, because for so long, we were ignored on the screen. Also, you can recreate a character without trying to recreate a race; you don’t see Black people powdering their faces, yet the need to create inclusion is heard clearly through the description. We aren’t even having enough discussions around size in animation or representation in a positive light for the young and old alike. Jessica Rabbit was the “thickest” the community has gotten. We haven’t advanced far enough in our fight in diversity to where Disney has given us a voluptuous Princess, with roll and folds in all her glory. Thank goodness we have been graced with a real life BAP like Lizzo . Each year, plus size women are forced to create representation for themselves, we dress up as Tinkerbell’s and Mariah Carey ‘s, Beyoncé ‘s, Michelle Obama ‘s, and Oprah ‘s showcasing the power of plus size women within our superstars. As we strive to be a more culturally aware society, Greek Goddesses become Goddesses, we dress up as skeletons and not Day of the Dead, and we don’t wear makeup from specific African origins in which we don’t identify. It’s not sensitive, it’s respectful and inclusive. Sometimes it’s not what we see and more so what we imply and our verbiage. By thinking more about what we say, how we say it, and how we describe our costumes, can speak volumes to communities that are normally affected by the thoughtlessness within the Halloween holiday. Farrah Abraham: Jenelle Evans Is My BFF! I’m Gonna Save Her Career!

Teen Mom is different from other reality franchises, in that the central cast members all live in different parts of the country. But despite the geographical distance between them, the ladies are forever united by the experience of starring on such a long-running series. And the two stars who got their asses fired after years of batsh-t behavior share an even more special bond. We're talking, of course, about Farrah Abraham and Jenelle Evans, both of whom were kicked to the curb after years of tormenting the poor producers who were assigned to work with them. Farrah and Jenelle have talked MAJOR trash about each over the years, but perhaps we shouldn't be surprised by the fact that they've now formed a friendship. Buckle up, because things are about to get weird: 1. Best Frenemies Over the course of their decade in the spotlight, Jenelle and Farrah have lashed out at just about everyone with the misfortune to cross their paths, including one another. 2. Brought Together By Unemployment These days, Jenelle and Farrah are finally seeing eye-to-eye, and it seems it’s the experience of being fired by MTV that brought them together. 3. Trailblazer Farrah was the first to go. She got the ax in 2017, purportedly over her refusal to stop performing in live internet sex shows. 4. The Cam Girl Of course, as many have pointed out, Farrah had been appearing in adult films for years, and the more likely explanation is that she was fired for being shockingly rude to her production staff. 5. Kicked to the Curb Similarly, Jenelle spent several years making life hell for the people forced to work with her, but in Evans’ case, there’s no mystery about what finally led execs to kick her to the curb. 6. The Nugget Incident Back in March, Jenelle’s husband, David Eason, beat, shot, and killed the family dog — an 11-pound French bulldog puppy named Nugget. View Slideshow

Nick Cannon: I Still Hate that Scared Punk Eminem!

Nick Cannon has more serious beefs than shading Kylie Jenner and Danielle Bregoli. Nick is nursing an 11-year-old grudge. He’s been feuding with Eminem since 2008, when the infamous rapper took cheap shots at Nick’s then-wife, Mariah Carey. More than a decade later, Nick is making it clear that he still feels that Eminem needs to be held accountable for what he said. Speaking on T.I.’s podcast ExpediTIously , Nick Cannon opens up about his longstanding resentment towards Eminem. He clearly doesn’t like that the rapper never met up with him to settle things. “He didn’t wanna battle me,” Nick observes. He says that: “it could have went down.” “I was like, whatever he wanna do, I’m with it,” Nick shares. The feud began in 2008, shortly after Nick and Mariah had first married. “I think we were flying back on a jet from Africa or somewhere,” Nick recalls. “And this motherf–ker drops a song, like, talking s–t,” he complains. Within that song, Nick accuses, Eminem was “Calling her [Mariah] all kinds of b–ches and hoes.” Well, that’s enough to upset anyone, but especially her husband. Nick recalls his furious response: “I’m like, ‘this is my wife. This is my new wife.'” “I wrote a letter first,” he reveals. A letter ? We suppose that the telegram lines were down. “I don’t even know if Twitter had come out yet,” Nixk admits. Twitter came out in 2008, but existing and being popular are not the same thing. “So, I wrote this long-ass letter,” Nick relates. Within the letter, the content was “pretty much saying, ‘look, I respect you as an artist.'” That’s a great way to get off on the right foot. “‘I’m actually a fan,” Nick admitted within the message. “And,” he told Eminem at the time. “I think you’re one of the best ever to do it.” “But from man to man,” Nick wrote. “You are talking out of pocket to my wife.” “You gotta be held accountable for that,” Nick expresses. Goodness. If this were ye olden times, Nick would have had to strike Eminem across the face with a fancy glove to challenge him to a duel. “So,” Nick recalls telling him. “I need to see you face-to-face.'” He even says that he “went looking for” Eminem. Again, this is some straight-up feudal era knights-of-honor nonsense. Nick even says that he would have flown to Detroit for this confrontation. “I was like, look, if you wanna get on the phone, if I gotta go to Detroit,” Nick recalls. This guy was big mad . “You done disrespected my wife,” he explains. Nick explains his extreme fixation: “I gotta show my wife I’m a man, number one.” Toxic masculinity ruins the party once again, we see. “And two, he said my name,” Nick notes. Which summons him instantly. Like Beetlejuice. Nick concludes: “I said, ‘I know I’m not going to be able to out rap you, but I will whoop your ass.'” Well, we’ll say this much for Nick Cannon: He has a very grounded and realistic estimation of his abilities. It sounds like Eminem does, too, which is probably why he never went face-to-face with Nick to square things away. View Slideshow: 21 Celebrity Feuds We Never Saw Coming

Can’t Nobody Tell Him Nothiiin: Lil Nas X Reveals What Made Him Come Out As Gay, Covers TIME Magazine In Gitty Up Gear

Source: Rich Fury / Getty Lil Nas X Covers TIME Magazine To say that the Summer belonged to Lil Nas X is an understatement. At just 20 years old, the Georgia rapper went from a unknown Twitter troll, to an extremely well known troll, whose song “Old Town Road” dethroned Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men as the longest-running No. 1 song in history. Now you can’t go anywhere without seeing his face, or hearing that song and it’s many remixes. View this post on Instagram When @lilnasx's debut single “Old Town Road” exploded online early this year and began climbing the charts, industry prognosticators anticipated a quick rise and fall. It’s now the longest-running No. 1 song in history, having occupied the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 weeks. It’s been streamed more than a billion times on @spotify alone. All of this has made “Old Town Road” the defining sound of the year, a slurry, genre-busting interpolation of two quintessential American musical genres: #country and hip-hop. Yet even from his perch, writes Andrew R. Chow, Lil Nas is still an outlier. There aren’t many black stars in country #music; there aren’t many queer stars in #hiphop. There aren’t many queer black stars in American culture, point-blank. The fact that Lil Nas has risen so far and so fast testifies not only to his skill, but also to the erosion of the systems that for generations kept #artists like him on the sidelines. At a time when debates about categorization and identity are ubiquitous, Lil Nas X represents a more unified vision of the future, one in which a young #queer black man can dominate popular #culture by being unapologetically himself. “Everything lined up for this moment to take me to this place,” he says now. “Not to sound self-centered, but it feels like I’m chosen, in a way, to do this stuff.” Read more at the link in bio. Photograph by @kelianne for TIME; animation by @brobeldesign; “Old Town Road” (p) 2019 Columbia Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment A post shared by TIME (@time) on Aug 15, 2019 at 5:08am PDT   Lil Nas graced the cover of the latest issue of TIME Magazine and got candid about his meteoric rise to success, and why he was initially hesitant to come out as gay. “I never would have done that if I wasn’t in a way pushed by the universe. In June, I’m seeing Pride flags everywhere and seeing couples holding hands — little stuff like that.” View this post on Instagram When @lilnasx recorded “Old Town Road” last fall, he was hoping it could be his way out of an unhappy life. Born Montero Lamar Hill outside #Atlanta in 1999, Lil Nas grew up poor, living with one parent or another—his mother and father split when he was 6. As he spent most of his teenage years alone, he began to live on the Internet and particularly Twitter, creating #memes that showed his disarming wit and pop-culture savvy. “It was like, I’m able to go viral, but I’m not promoting anything that’s gonna help me,” he says. “Until music came along.” A gifted vocalist since he was a child—his father is a gospel singer—Lil Nas began writing and recording songs in his closet. When, around last Halloween, he stumbled across a banjo-driven beat by the teenage Dutch producer @youngkio, he saw an opportunity to combine trap—a Southern-born #hiphop subgenre propelled by vicious bass and crawling tempos—with #country, which was experiencing a surge of popularity on the Internet. “Because it’s two polar opposites coming together, it’s funny no matter what it is,” he says. For the history of #music, artists like Lil Nas were the exception, writes Andrew R. Chow. Now, by definition, Lil Nas is the rule. Read more at the link in bio. Video by @khomariflashfilms and @alexandra_robson for TIME A post shared by TIME (@time) on Aug 15, 2019 at 8:48am PDT The young artist added that he was taught from a young age that homosexuality “is never going to be OK,” plus, he feared he might lose fans if he shared his truth. But quite the contrary, Lil Nas. His popularity has skyrocketed over the last few month, which is proof that authenticity ultimately wins. Apparently there’s a lot more we didn’t know about the country rap crooner. Check out Lil Nas X’s full interview here .

Here’s The One Line The Record Label Made Billy Ray Cyrus Take Off “Old Town Road”

Read the original post:

Source: Rodin Eckenroth / Getty Billy Ray Cyrus Was Forced To Change One Of His Lines On “Old Town Road” Billy Ray Cyrus is known for being a legend in the world of country music–but more recently, he’s been making headlines for everything surrounding his contributions to Lil Nas X’s smash hit, “Old Town Road.” Last week, the legendary musician did an interview with Taste Of Country , where he talked about how he discovered Lil Nas X, what he thought of “Old Town Road” the first time he heard it, why he decided to jump on the song, and more. Beside the usual discussion surrounding the record breaking song, Billy Ray Cyrus also revealed some brand new information about his process when making his contribution. According to the Kentucky native, the writing process for his verse took only about “eight to ten minutes” for him to do in its entirety. Once he was finished putting pen to paper, the record label was mostly happy with it, except for one line. “For some reason I thought it would be funny to say, ‘Baby’s got a habit: diamond rings and marijuana,’” the country singer revealed to Taste Of Country . “See? I thought it was funny. That song could’ve DONE something,” he continued as the hosts laughed. The label ended up coming back to Billy with some simple notes about his verse: “everything but the marijuana.” In the end, after establishing that putting a line about weed in the song probably wouldn’t be their best move, somebody suggested that Billy say “Fendi sports bras” instead of “marijuana.” “And I thought, well, it’s probably good, because I don’t know what that is,” Cyrus explained to the hosts. Here’s how that section of Cyrus’ verse sounds today: “Hat down, cross town, livin’ like a rockstar/ Spent a lot of money on my brand new guitar/ Baby’s got a habit: diamond rings and Fendi sports bras/ Ridin’ down Rodeo in my Maserati sports car” And that’s how we ended up with the “Old Town Road” verse we know and love today. As we all already know by now, Lil Nas X’s single has been breaking non-stop records, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for the 18th week in a row, beating out “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee , featuring Justin Bieber , and “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men , which ruled for 16 weeks each, in 2017 and 1995-96, respectively. Would the song still be just as successful if Billy kept that line about marijuana in there? Who knows. But right now, it’s unstoppable.
