Can’t Nobody Tell Him Nothiiin: Lil Nas X Reveals What Made Him Come Out As Gay, Covers TIME Magazine In Gitty Up Gear

Source: Rich Fury / Getty Lil Nas X Covers TIME Magazine To say that the Summer belonged to Lil Nas X is an understatement. At just 20 years old, the Georgia rapper went from a unknown Twitter troll, to an extremely well known troll, whose song “Old Town Road” dethroned Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men as the longest-running No. 1 song in history. Now you can’t go anywhere without seeing his face, or hearing that song and it’s many remixes. View this post on Instagram When @lilnasx's debut single “Old Town Road” exploded online early this year and began climbing the charts, industry prognosticators anticipated a quick rise and fall. It’s now the longest-running No. 1 song in history, having occupied the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 weeks. It’s been streamed more than a billion times on @spotify alone. All of this has made “Old Town Road” the defining sound of the year, a slurry, genre-busting interpolation of two quintessential American musical genres: #country and hip-hop. Yet even from his perch, writes Andrew R. Chow, Lil Nas is still an outlier. There aren’t many black stars in country #music; there aren’t many queer stars in #hiphop. There aren’t many queer black stars in American culture, point-blank. The fact that Lil Nas has risen so far and so fast testifies not only to his skill, but also to the erosion of the systems that for generations kept #artists like him on the sidelines. At a time when debates about categorization and identity are ubiquitous, Lil Nas X represents a more unified vision of the future, one in which a young #queer black man can dominate popular #culture by being unapologetically himself. “Everything lined up for this moment to take me to this place,” he says now. “Not to sound self-centered, but it feels like I’m chosen, in a way, to do this stuff.” Read more at the link in bio. In June, I’m seeing Pride flags everywhere and seeing couples holding hands — little stuff like that.” View this post on Instagram When @lilnasx recorded “Old Town Road” last fall, he was hoping it could be his way out of an unhappy life. Born Montero Lamar Hill outside #Atlanta in 1999, Lil Nas grew up poor, living with one parent or another—his mother and father split when he was 6. As he spent most of his teenage years alone, he began to live on the Internet and particularly Twitter, creating #memes that showed his disarming wit and pop-culture savvy. “It was like, I’m able to go viral, but I’m not promoting anything that’s gonna help me,” he says. “Until music came along.” A gifted vocalist since he was a child—his father is a gospel singer—Lil Nas began writing and recording songs in his closet. When, around last Halloween, he stumbled across a banjo-driven beat by the teenage Dutch producer @youngkio, he saw an opportunity to combine trap—a Southern-born #hiphop subgenre propelled by vicious bass and crawling tempos—with #country, which was experiencing a surge of popularity on the Internet. “Because it’s two polar opposites coming together, it’s funny no matter what it is,” he says. For the history of #music, artists like Lil Nas were the exception, writes Andrew R. Chow. Now, by definition, Lil Nas is the rule. Read more at the link in bio. Video by @khomariflashfilms and @alexandra_robson for TIME A post shared by TIME (@time) on Aug 15, 2019 at 8:48am PDT The young artist added that he was taught from a young age that homosexuality “is never going to be OK,” plus, he feared he might lose fans if he shared his truth. But quite the contrary, Lil Nas. His popularity has skyrocketed over the last few month, which is proof that authenticity ultimately wins. Apparently there’s a lot more we didn’t know about the country rap crooner. Check out Lil Nas X’s full interview here .

Jill Duggar Scolded for Bad Parenting: Is She Risking Her Son’s Life?!

If you check in on the Duggars, even every once in a very long while, then you probably know that they have crazy, crazy fans, and also a whole bunch of haters. They’re very polarizing, those wild and crazy Duggars. The people that love them love them because they think they’re very wholesome, a nice Christian family in a sea of depraved reality stars. The people that hate them hate them because they can be very bigoted and judgemental. Also that whole thing about Josh being a child molester . Of course some family members are more gossiped about than others, and the bulk of the public’s attention goes to the kids that have grown up and are making families on their own. And out of those people, it’s probably safe to say that Jill gets the most criticism. (Well, besides Josh for the aforementioned molesting.) We’re not sure why she gets as much hate as she does, but if we had to guess, we’d probably say it has something to do with her decision to marry Derick Dillard. Who, by the way, is the worst. After Josh. Derick is very vocal about his bigotry, and very aggressive about it, too. Like, nobody else has been fired from Counting On because they just couldn’t shut their big hateful mouths. On top of that, there’s the way Derick and Jill have continually asked their fans for money to fund their mission trips, even though you’d think that being reality stars would pay well enough to fly to Central America. Then there are the smaller things, all those weird little posts they make on social media, that kind of thing. For example, Derick recently quoted a bible verse on Twitter and linked it to his kids, effectively saying that his own children are curses . It’s all bad. Just so bad. And Jill’s latest Instagram post? Well, that’s bad too. “Israel woke me up this morning saying he was about to throw up!” she wrote. “We made it to the toilet before [vomit emoji], then it was [bath emoji] time and back to bed.” “No more loss of fluids for a couple hrs now,” she added, “so it’s popsicle, goldfish, jello and [TV emoji] time!” She also explained that “Growing up we got popsicles as rewards, or when there was throw-up or blood … we do this in our house now too.” So what did people find to pick apart about these photos and her caption? Lots! “Only you would think that taking a photo of a sick child is insta worthy,” one person commented. “And feeding him sugar water on a sick stomach, rather than camomile tea and dry bread!” Another person had a similar thought with “If you give him sugar he will stay sick longer.” Some people didn’t have a problem with her food choices, but they did have a problem with the things that she wrote. “I’m not trying to be rude,” one of those people tole her. “It’s just not necessary to share all the gross details!” But the bulk of the negative comments were about the photo of Samuel sitting right next to Israel. “Why would you put Samuel with your sick kid?” one of her followers asked. “Idiot of a mother much?” Another comment read “Get ready for Sam to have it since you are letting them lay around together. Keep them away from each other. #parenting101.” Because, as yet another hater explained, “She’s just asking for Sam to be sick. And he’s a baby. Could be a million times worse for him.” So the popsicle thing is fine, right? Tons of parents give their kids popsicles when they’re sick to kee them hydrated. And the oversharing, well, that’s just to be expected on Instagram. The last point is kind of tricky, because of course ideally Jill would keep Israel away from Samuel so he wouldn’t get sick too, but that’s easier said than done. Donald Trump to Miley Cyrus: Your Twerking Is Almost as Beautiful as My Wall!

Way back in the year of our Lord two thousand and thirteen, a young former Disney star named Miley Cyrus was looking for a way to cut ties with her squeaky clean past. And she saw a golden opportunity during the 2013 VMAs. Yes, we’ve reached the point where some of our younger readers may not even remember Miley twerking all over Robin Thicke as a horrified crowd looked on. They also may not remember that at this time, bigotry and supervillainy were just side-projects for Donald Trump, and not his primary reasons for being. What do these two factoids of the Obama years have to do with one another? Well, in a newly-published interview with Vanity Fair , Cyrus reveals that Trump called her at her hotel in New York the morning after her now-infamous performance to tell her how much he enjoyed every racy moment. “I loved it,” Miley recalls the Donald saying. She was unable to quote him further all these years later, but we’re sure the Donald went on to creepily overuse all his favorite adjectives like “beautiful,” “fabulous,” and “amazing.” “And now he’s our president,” Cyrus added. From there, Miley went on to reveal that she never intended to flee the country if Trump got elected, as she stated during the 2016 campaign. Instead, she merely hoped to impress upon her fellow Americans the severity of the situation.  “You know, I said I would move away if he became president. We all said a bunch of sh-t we didn’t mean,” Miley said. “Because we really thought: Maybe people will listen. Maybe people actually realize how detrimental this will be to our fucking country if this happens.” “Obviously they didn’t. But for me to move away—what the f-ck is that going to change? “As someone who is so proud of being an activist, am I going to feel proud of myself just running away from, and leaving everyone else here to live under, a completely racist, sexist, hateful assh-le? You can’t leave everyone else to fend for themselves.” But hey, it’s not all doom and gloom. Miley got married to Liam Hemsworth on New Year’s Eve, and she says she’s the happiest she’s ever been. So hey, if sh-t really hits the fan it should be easy for Miley to high-tail it to Australia!

North West Becomes A Cover Girl At Age 5!!

Move over fam!  North West may be too young for a boyfriend , but she is not too young to be a cover girl.  The 5-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West has landed her first modeling gig!  And it is absolutely adorable. You can find little Nori on her first solo cover for WWD’s issue about Generation Z , titled “Keeping Up With the Future.” Not to anyone’s surprise, Kim helped style her own daughter for the shoot, showing off North’s rainbow Dr. Marten boots, a bright pink tunic top and even pink eyeshadow!  “My most stylish and beautiful baby girl North shot her 1st cover for @wwd !!!!” Kim wrote alongside pictures from the photo shoot. “She loves fashion & beauty and has so much fun doing this!” The reality star also took to Twitter to share her excitement, “I’m seriously so proud of my Northie! She picked her looks and eyeliner color and is so involved and loves fashion & beauty so much so she has the best time at her @wwd shoot!” “Kanye & I always say she’s Kristen Crawley’s style twin.” “All she wanted was nachos on shoot day and we made that happen!” Kim went on to tell her followers.  “Thank you @wwd for capturing these amazing memories for her.”  WWD also shared their thoughts on their youngest cover girl:  “At five years old, North West, the famous daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, has captivated the digital realm with her cross-generational appeal,” WWD wrote. “Without a public Instagram or YouTube channel of her own, she’s too young to fully understand what a digital footprint is. And yet, hers is already wildly popular.” The outlet continued to praise North for her distinct fashion sense and impressive eye makeup skills. As if she had no guidance from her makeup obsessed family members.   “West, whether she knows it or not, is at the forefront of a generation that is highly connected, engaged with fashion and beauty and individualistic in style,” said the fashion magazine.  “Called Alpha, signifying a new beginning, this age group is unlike any the world has ever seen.” Forget Millennials, Gen. Z is taking over! (particularly the ones with important parents) Kendall Jenner, who is the family’s most “skilled” member , if you will, due to her successful modeling career, tweeted “North is giving me a run for my money that’s for sure” after seeing her niece’s cute photos.  And while most little girls stick to dressing up their dolls, North isn’t playing pretend.  I mean come on, she’s so Vogue.  View Slideshow: 13 Times Kim Kardashian Has Dressed Up Her Daughter
