Kaskade Talks ‘Sweet’ Skrillex Collabo, ‘Lick It’

Two versions of song appear on Kaskade’s double album Fire and Ice. By Nick Philippou Kaskade Photo: MTV News Kaskade is making EDM fans’ dreams come true on his highly anticipated double album Fire and Ice, available exclusively on Monday (October 24). He teams up with budding dubstep icon Skrillex for “Lick It,” a track so tasty that you might try to do just that. We’ve secured a preview for your electro-fix, and it’s everything you would imagine from a combination of Kaskade’s progressive house vibe and Skrillex’s sound-crunching bass riffs. Kaskade predicted to MTV News that “Lick It” will definitely surprise people, in a good way. “I think most people went, ‘Wait, Kaskade and Skrillex — that’s two different things.’ But I think that’s what makes it interesting, you know?” Kaskade said. “Don’t take somebody who’s doing the exact same thing I’m doing, let’s find people that I really enjoy, but are doing something different than I’m doing.” Kaskade enticed an impressive group of collaborators from across genres for Fire and Ice, including Skylar Gray and alt rockers Neon Trees, but when pairing up with Skrillex, Kaskade knew he was enlisting one of EDM’s rising stars. “It’s crazy — Skrillex has had a massive year,” Kaskade said. “I think because not that many people knew about him last year, and then all of a sudden he’s just everywhere this year. It’s cool that he’s been able to do that. It’s been a massive impact on the underground.” Skrillex’s breakout stems from a rabid fanbase fueling tour demands after a steady stream of successes this year, like his remix of Benny Benassi’s “Cinema” and his recent single “First of the Year.” Those followed up his massive 2010 debut, “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites,” which opened at #1 on the Beatport Top 100. Kaskade told MTV News that he had so much fun doing a remix of Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites for Skrillex that he immediately knew that he wanted to do an original song with the dubstep master of Generation Next. Now, thankful fans of both artists will get two new songs from the pair on Kaskade’s double LP Fire and Ice, with one offering a club-ready and revved-up Fire version of “Lick It” and the other a more down-tempo Ice rendition of the song. “I had already worked up a track and had something in mind, and I threw it to him and this is what we got,” Kaskade said. “Skrillex sent it back to me, and I was like, ‘Sweet, dude — we got that bass patch in there. Yeah!’ ” Who would you like to hear Kaskade, Skrillex or both team up with and do a song for? Maybe they’ll take your two cents if you leave a comment! Related Artists Kaskade Skrillex

Kaskade Tears Up The Decks At LIV In Miami

Miami Music Week continues with one of EDM’s best. By Adam Stewart Kaskade Photo: KirillWasHere.com MIAMI — It was another big night at Fontainebleau’s LIV nightclub, where Miami’s A-list once again turned out to champion one of dance music’s best. After Laidback Luke’s “Super You & Me” party featuring Skrillex on Wednesday night and an epic set by Swedish House Mafia’s Axwell on Thursday, the room was redecorated and the stage was set to host a full night devoted to none other than Kaskade. Kicking off his day with a surprise guest set at Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 Pool Party at the Surfcomber, Kaskade (born Ryan Raddon) arrived at LIV fully warmed up by the energetic bikini-clad crowd. The line stretched out into the street and the venue was jam-packed with diehard fans lucky enough to get on the right side of the velvet rope of one of Miami Music Week’s biggest shows. Mid-set, a tripped fire alarm caused a brief intermission while the system reset. The crowd, however, egged on by Kaskade’s impromptu storytelling and comedic sense on the mic, began their own frenzied chants, including the hook from the circa-2000 techno hit “Kernkraft 400” by Zombie Nation, a moment that sparked nostalgia for more than just a few in the crowd. But when the green light came to turn the music back to max, Kaskade kicked the party into high gear. Raddon has always had a knack for bringing his biggest to the stage, and tonight was no exception. With a massive remix of his and Deadmau5’s “Move for Me” — transformed into a very catchy, wobbly synthed banger — the crowd couldn’t resist the temptation to sing along to the new rendition of one of his biggest hits ever. He then dropped a rework of another one of his original smashes, this time with “Don’t Stop Dancing Girl,” which he infused with melodic piano riffs and thumping beats. Shortly thereafter, Raddon, known for his penchant for mash-ups, which he often shares with his fans on #MusicMondays, dropped a mix of Marco V’s “Reaver” with Red Carpet’s 2007 smash “Alright.” Rounding out the hour with Max Vangeli and AN21’s remix of Pendulum’s “The Island,” Raddon again set the bar as one of the world’s premier DJs, whose success and talent in the studio transitions seamlessly to his live gigs and beyond. To those lucky enough to attend Kaskade’s night at LIV, it was one for the ages. Checking out Kaskade tonight on Ultra Music Festivals Main Stage? Snooki Fave DJ Kaskade Talks Tiesto Collabo At WMC 2010

House DJ reveals how a tweet from the ‘Jersey Shore’ star boosted his fanbase. By Akshay Bhansali, with additional reporting by Adam Stewart Kaskade Photo: MTV News MIAMI — With a series of notable remixes over the years for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Nelly Furtado, progressive house-music DJ and producer Kaskade has become a force to be reckoned with in the electronic music world. He’s had several songs on the Billboard Hot Dance char and amassed a considerable fanbase. And then one fine day, “Jersey Shore” cast member Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, decided to tweet about a song she was listening to. “She’s a fan of my music which was really cool,” Kaskade (a.k.a. Ryan Raddon) told MTV News on Thursday at the Winter Music Conference . “I actually found out through Twitter. I saw her on Twitter. She was talking about, ‘Oh, I was just sitting back listening to my favorite Kaskade mix.’ And I was like, ‘Snooki, isn’t that the girl on “Jersey Shore”?’ “I don’t watch a lot of television so I didn’t really know,” he admitted. “I hadn’t seen the show yet, and my friends are like, ‘Yeah, yeah, moron! Whatever!’ But it’s interesting. man, after she mentioned me on Twitter, it was like thousands of more [fans] within a week of her Twittering about me, and it was amazing. But that’s what’s cool about dance music, you never know. The teller at the bank listens to it, and so does Snooki, so it’s cool.” DJ Tiesto, another artist who’s certainly on Snooki’s radar and worshipped by virtually every person in attendance at WMC this week, also is a fan of Kaskade’s work. And to prove it, the Dutch trance titan did something he’s seldom ever done: He co-produced a song with Kaskade called “Only You,” which is making its debut in DJ sets around WMC this week. “My sound and Tiesto’s sound, they are actually quite different, but there is some similarity to it,” Kaskade said. “I think melodically it makes a lot of sense, even though our production styles are very different, and it’s cool that he can recognize that. He’s always been a big supporter of my music, but he reached out to me, and I was like, ‘Dude, yeah, let’s do this, let’s kill it.’ I’m just really happy with the way it turned out.” Kaskade is set to release his album Dynasty on May 11. And given the recent string of dance music hits on mainstream radio, he’s upbeat about his prospects. “There was a little creeping up there in the ’80s and early ’90s with Deee-lite, and Madonna was voguing, and it was like, ‘Oh my gosh, is this gonna happen?’ ” he recalled. “But the timing wasn’t right yet. When Lady Gaga did it, we were all like, ‘Cool.’ This really is our time.” Stick with MTV News all week for more coverage of the Winter Music Conference 2010.
