Madonna Promises ‘A Feast For The Eyes’ On MDNA Tour

Singer has reportedly enlisted fashion guru Jean-Paul Gaultier to design the costumes for the tour, which kicks off May 29. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Rob Imbriani Madonna Photo: MTV News Madonna is several weeks out from launching her MDNA tour . That means she’s working hard on getting every aspect of the show just right, from the music to the design to the looks. Given that Madonna is famous for her spectacular stage shows, fans of the glitzy singer have high expectations for the jaunt, which will kick off on May 29 in Tel Aviv, and will wrap around the globe before planting Stateside on August 28 in Philadelphia. When MTV News caught up with singer at the launch of her Truth or Dare perfume in New York City , she revealed that fans should expect this latest excursion to be just as eye-catching as the ones that came before. “Amazing music, incredible dancing, the team of people that I worked with for the Super Bowl is working with me on this as well,” she explained about the show, which she is currently rehearsing for. And, in the end, she hopes it will be “a feast for the eyes and the ears.” Given how decadent her Roman- and Egyptian-themed Super Bowl performance was, full of acrobatics, sparkling costumes and enough diva-tude to make Cleopatra jealous, it seems that Madge is taking all the right steps to capture that eye-popping essence for her traveling stage show. With a set list floating around that includes tracks like fan favorites “Secret” and “Deeper and Deeper,” as well as new tracks like “Turn Up the Radio” and “Girl Gone Wild,” she’s even enlisted her longtime fashion guru, Jean-Paul Gaultier, to design the costumes for the tour, according to Pink Is The New Blog . He’s worked with her on her Confessions Tour, her Re-Invention Tour, the Drowned World Tour and her Blond Ambition Tour. He’s also the man who designed her famous cone bra. It seems that the Queen of Pop will rule Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum starting at the end of this month through mid-May, according to Newsday . The pop singer and her team are rumored to have rented out the space to rehearse, but she has no plans to stop there during the tour. Madge dropped her album, MDNA , last month. Kelly Rowland Calls ‘Motivation’ Success ‘So Unexpected’

‘Somebody came up to me last week and said, ‘How many babies do you think were made off of ‘Motivation’?’ ‘ she laughs to MTV News. By Rebecca Thomas Kelly Rowland in her “Motivation” video Photo: Columbia Records UNIONDALE, New York — Kelly Rowland needed a moment. MTV News had spent a few weeks trying to catch up with the cocoa beauty, and we finally scored some time to chat with her when she hit Nassau Coliseum last week for the New York leg of Chris Brown’s F.A.M.E. Tour . But first, Kelly Ro needed to catch up with her public. After an energetic opening set that included hits from her Destiny’s Child days and the honey-dipped hooks she dropped on rap staples like Nelly’s “Dilemma,” Rowland emerged backstage in a black sequined bodysuit topped with a sheer bolero, positively glowing. A gaggle of label execs and a smattering of VIP fans crammed Rowland’s arena dressing room to celebrate what had clearly been a triumphant night, but it was hard not to feel they were also toasting an impressive year. In April, “Motivation” — an early single that preceded her third solo album, Here I Am — hit radio and started its slow seduction of the Billboard charts, from the Hot 100 (peak #17) to the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (#1), Digital Songs (#25) and even Ringtones (#3) rankings. The steamy platinum track was atypical fare for Kelly and something of a gamble for a gifted performer who had yet to match her girl-group glory with Stateside solo success. Of course, the risk paid off. ” ‘Motivation,’ wow, ” Kelly said. Back on her tour bus after freshening up, the singer reflected as she relaxed on a cozy leather couch. “It’s a blessing above anything, and it’s just so crazy how something so unexpected — because everything is so tempo-driven on the radio, and I remember being slightly nervous about that, but then I just got over it real quick because I just [had] such great confidence in the record.” With an assist from Young Money general Lil Wayne, the Rico Love/ Jim Jonsin-produced tune let good girl Kelly show off her sensual side — and that silky alto. (In the companion clip, Kells writhes around with some oiled-up dancers, clad in an indigo one-piece that’s more cut-out than cloth.) Fans were soon buzzing about the lyrics, which find the songstress giving her man a titillating, um, pep talk. “Whoa, lover, don’t you dare slow down/ Go longer, you can last more rounds/ Push harder, you’re almost there now,” she sings, adding, “And when we’re done, I don’t wanna feel my … legs.” “I think that there was a side of all women and all people, period; a sensual side, and it just needed to come out this summer,” Kelly said about the song’s heavy rotation. “And I think ‘Motivation’ kinda helped motivate that — a lot,” she laughed. With the infectious, uptempo “Lay It on Me” (featuring Big Sean) already lined up as the follow-up single , K.Ro said she was still blushing over the impact of her million-selling smash. “Somebody came up to me just last week and said, ‘How many babies do you think were made off of ‘Motivation’?’ I was like, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t even think about it like that!’ ” But don’t let the Houston belle fool you: She’s fully embraced what she described as the song’s themes of “sexual freedom” and “confidence.” In fact, while “Motivation” was burning up the charts this summer, Kelly was heating up Vibe magazine’s August/September “Juice” issue, among others, tossing her top for a Janet Jackson-esque cover look. Sade Keeps It Super Smooth On NY Tour Stop

‘Soldier of Love’ singer performed classics and recent hits after John Legend warmed up the crowd. By Rebecca Thomas Sade (file) Photo: Gus Stewart/ Getty Images UNIONDALE, New York — If the name Sade only conjures up a melancholy Diddy-Dirty Money lyric (from “Ass on the Floor”), then her reemergence on Tuesday night at Nassau Coliseum, a week into the North American leg of her 2011 world tour might not seem significant. But it’s been a decade since the iconic, often reclusive singer hit the road, and her presence onstage seemed to prove that pop still has its constants. Over the course of about 90 minutes, the Nigerian-born Brit waded through a discography that spans nearly 30 years and never seems to collect dust. In fact, her opener, “Soldier of Love” is a pounding battle hymn that shares little of the DNA of her ’80s classics. Dressed in all-black and perched atop strappy stilettos, Sade whipped up the adoring crowd, marching on to the stage and punctuating the song’s insistent drum line with kick steps. At 52, she is almost as willowy now — and still sporting the same slick ponytail, scarlet-stained lips and hoop earrings — as she is in those early MTV music videos for standards like “Smooth Operator,” which proved to be a multigenerational crowd-pleaser on Tuesday. And her smoky alto had a vocal range deceptively broader than her records might suggest. Supported by her longtime band/collaborators, Sade shimmied and kept the pace in flux, going from introspective ballads, like “Kiss of Life”(from Love Deluxe ) and “Pearls,” to midtempo cuts, like the roots-tinged “Love Is Stronger Than Pride” and “Sweetest Taboo.” This was notable because she’s built a catalog lined with sleepy tunes seemingly designed to ease you through the stages of heartbreak. While the boomer contingent came to their feet whenever the star dipped back to her ’85 Diamond Life debut (some even danced junior-prom style in the aisles), others were excited to hear her work from 2000’s Lovers Rock . If Picasso had his Blue Period , that album could be considered Sade’s Red, Yellow and Green period: The songstress had fallen in love and settled in Jamaica’s Montego Bay and seemed to absorb the culture, even sporting the signature Rasta colors on the album’s cover . She joined her backup singers for the blissful “All About Our Love” and demonstrated why she’s worn the crown for so long on “King of Sorrow.” Before signing off with another Rock cut, “By Your Side,” Sade recalled coming to NYC in her 20s, just another girl and her band trying to make it, and jokingly compared herself to Crocodile Dundee. It was probably only fitting that Maxwell was sitting just a few rows back from the stage on Tuesday night. The crooner is arguably one of the few who can even blink in Sade’s direction. John Legend is another, and he showed why during his opening set, throwing himself into smashes like “Ordinary People” and a delicious new arrangement of his “Green Light.” Have you seen Sade in concert?
