Rick Ross Producer Aone Advises: ‘Get Ready’

Ross has recorded hundreds of songs for God Forgives, I Don’t, producer tells Mixtape Daily. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Ade Mangum Aone Photo: MTV News Behind the Beats: Aone Every rap crew needs a go-to destination for their beats. Rick Ross is aware of this and inked producer Aone, who is building up quite a reputable discography, to his Maybach Music Group. Aone produced “10 Bricks,” featuring YMCMB’s Birdman , which appeared on Rozay’s Ashes to Ashes mixtape. The upstart has also hooked up tracks for MMG members, including Triple C’s and Masspike Miles, as well as the Outlawz, French Montana and others. He is also working on a project with former G-Unit rapper Young Buck called Bond Money and will be handling all of its production. Not bad for a guy from another continent. “I’m actually from Nigeria,” Aone told Mixtape Daily. “I came out here about eight years ago, and I just started working with a couple of people. Mobb Deep — I started getting in the studio with them. I was influenced by Havoc just making beats and [DJ] Toomp and a lot of other producers.” Of his particular sound, Aone said, “I do a lot of sampling: I like to sample, but I twist up my samples. It’s a mix of the South, and it’s a mix of New York. It’s a mix of everything. It’s something different.” The producer is making sure to reserve his best beats for the home team. He revealed that Ross has recorded hundreds of songs for his forthcoming album God Forgives, I Don’t . “Ross is winning right now. I did a couple of joints for the album, but Ross, he’s always working,” Aone explained. “He’s in the studio; he’s recording over 200 tracks, so you never know. We did over six records already featuring different people. But Ross, he likes to take his time like a masterpiece. He got a bunch of work, so when it’s time, we gonna know. But we still working right now. I’m getting back in the studio, and we doing more stuff. God Forgives, I Don’t : It’s coming; get ready.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Artists AOne Rick Ross

Johnny Depp Is Extreme Barnabas In ‘Dark Shadows’ Set Pics

Photos show Tim Burton’s vision of the vampire is much less human than the ’60s soap original. By Eric Ditzian Bella Heathcote and Johnny Depp on the set of “Dark Shadows” Photo: Andrew Lloyd/ Splash News Johnny Depp promised that his take on the vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton’s adaptation of “Dark Shadows” wouldn’t diverge greatly from the “classic look” of the character in the ’60s-era gothic soap opera. “I think it’s going to be somewhere in that arena, with maybe just a couple of different touches here and there,” Depp told MTV News . Perhaps, though, things have changed more than a touch since then. Photos snapped of Depp on the U.K. set show a vampire less like the familiar Barnabas than something out of Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.” Depp’s take, complete with pancake makeup, reddened lips and wacky blue glasses, makes the vampire look decidedly inhuman. That’s a stark divergence from Jonathan Frid’s original Barnabas, who was kind of creepy but also a dapper gentleman with an aesthetic that didn’t scream, “Hey, world, I’m totally a supernatural creature!” At the same time, what else were we expecting? This is a Depp-Burton joint, after all, and this duo is hardly known for subtlety or a reluctance to mess with the pop-culture past. So let’s not get crazy or cynical and swear off this new “Dark Shadows” based on a few paparazzi photos. Recall the deep affection Depp has for the ABC show, which premiered in 1966 and pulled in elements of gothic romance, ghost stories, time travel and a whole lot of weirdness over its 1,255-episode run. The actor has long held out a hope of bringing the material to the big screen and portraying Barnabus. The new storyline begins in the 18th century, when Barnabas is turned into a vampire by the brokenhearted witch Angelique (Eva Green) and buried alive. The film then flashes forward two centuries, as Barnabas is freed from his tomb and returns to his home and the dysfunctional relatives who now reside there. “We’re changing it a little bit,” Burton told us last fall. “I wouldn’t do it if it felt like it was just doing the same thing. For me, it’s about trying to go back to the original drawings and kind of capture that spirit a little bit more of what the drawings are. It feels different even though it’s a similar story, but we’re kind of expanding it a bit. When he first appeared on “RapFix Live” back in May, Consequence made headlines , going into detail about his falling-out with former friend Kanye West. This time, the Queens MC turned the tables and revealed that he has since spoken to ‘Ye and the feud is over. After a heated email exchange between the two, ‘Quence claimed that West eventually told the ex-G.O.O.D. Music artist that he “loves” him. That wasn’t all: Cons TV also brought his newborn son, Caiden, onto the set and introduced him to the viewing audience. Although scheduled guests Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey missed their flight to New York City, Jim Jones represented for his Diplomats crew and talked about their reunion. ‘X Factor’ Auditions Teased In New Promo

‘It’s more than just a voice. It’s something else,’ Simon Cowell says in the 8-minute promo. By James Dinh Contestant Rachel Crow appears on X-Factor Photo: Fox Promotion for the U.S. version of “X Factor” kicked into high gear on Sunday night when Fox aired a unusually lengthy eight-minute preview of their forthcoming talent competition. The preview gave viewers an early introduction to the judging panel’s insight and some potential audition favorites before the show’s splashing debut on September 21. After a montage introducing all of the panelists — Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger — the TV preview offered viewers a taste of the series’ upcoming auditions. First up was the enthusiastic 13-year-old Rachel Crow, whose bubbly personality shined as bright as her voice. Upon her arrival onstage, the curly-haired student showed no signs of cold feet for what she described as “the most important thing I’ve ever done in my life.” “My family has, like, no money,” the fresh-faced auditioner told Cowell. “And let me tell you, we live in a two-bedroom house, OK? And I have six people in my family, which is a lot of people. And I’m a girl. I need my own bathroom.” After her brief chitchat with the panel, Crow tapped her foot, swayed her hands and delivered a belting rendition of Duffy’s “Mercy.” As you may have guessed, Abdul exuded just as much energy as the big-voiced Crow when she smiled and bobbed her head to the chanting tune. And it wasn’t just Abdul who enjoyed the audition, but also fellow judge L.A. Reid. “You have everything that every artist I’ve ever signed has: feisty, sassy, soulful. You got it all, baby. I love you,” he told her. Cameras soon panned to the backstage reactions from the young girl’s family, who joined together for a group hug. Crow looked in almost disbelief as she questioned her mom about the audition. “Mom, did you see that?” she asked. “X Factor” was also quick to showcase the show’s much-promoted no-age-limit rule when they moved on to the next contestant, 42-year-old single mother Stacy. The youthful-looking singer tearfully recalled the story of meeting someone who disregarded her big dreams, leaving her faith in shambles. “I don’t want to die with this music in me, Simon,” she candidly told the judge onstage, with the microphone clenched with both hands. Shots of the studio audience, who waited to hear whether or not Stacy could deliver, flashed when she began her cover of Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman.” Just a few lines into the tune, Stacy was met with an overwhelming audience cheer and stunned reactions from the judges. “Let me tell you something, Stacy. I’ve done this a long, long time. That was one of the best auditions I have ever heard in my life. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. I love you,” Cowell gushed. “X Factor” fans were met with even more eye (and ear) appeasing clips when the preview concluded with a dramatic montage and news of a two-night premiere, which airs September 21 and 22. We can also expect some high-profile guests during the show’s premiere season. Rihanna has signed up to guest-judge on an as-yet-undetermined date, according to TMZ . Lloyd Banks, Trina, More On ‘RapFix Live’ Anniversary Special!

Maino, the Outlawz also join host Sway on the red couch for one-year anniversary live stream Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Lloyd Banks and Sway on “RapFix Live” in November 2010 Photo: MTV News What a year! From the ascent of Wiz Khalifa to the rise of Rick Ross’ Maybach Music empire; from Lil Wayne’s 2010 prison release to T.I.’s latest incarceration; from the tragic death of Nate Dogg to the murder of M-Bone; not to mention the release of the highly anticipated Watch the Throne and Tha Carter IV, “RapFix Live” has been the number one source of all things hip-hop. After 12 months of hard work, MTV News will celebrate on the “RapFix Live” one-year anniversary show, set to kick off Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Lloyd Banks , Maino , Trina and the Outlawz will join host Sway in taking a look back at the past year in hip-hop. In this special celebratory broadcast, “RapFix” will also relive the show’s greatest moments. Who could forget when Rick Ross graced the “RFL” couch for the very first time, or when Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose professed their love for each other in front of our cameras? After announcing their reunion, the Diplomats appeared on “RapFix Live” in January — but without Juelz Santana. While the Dipset, covering for their boy, told us Elz had suffered an allergic reaction, we later learned that the Harlem spitter had his studio raided by police. Santana stopped by himself in June to set the record straight. Cam’ron and crew weren’t the only rap supergroup to stop by “RFL,” though. Before releasing their Bad Meets Evil EP, Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem invited Sway out to Detroit for a special sit-down. Fans also tuned in, in record numbers, when Consequence swung through the MTV Newsroom and aired out his grievances with onetime label boss and friend Kanye West . Yes, there have been some memorable moments on “RapFix Live” and a wide range of guests, including Lil’ Kim, Nicki Minaj, Game, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule and J. Cole. But the exclusive interviews aren’t the only thing that fans tune in to see on “RapFix Live.” At the end of every broadcast, the show’s guest isn’t allowed to leave until he or she kicks a freestyle rhyme. Pusha T, Fat Joe, Beanie Sigel, Nicki, Reek Da Villain and Fabolous have all blessed the show with their bars. The ridiculous rhymes and the standout moments — we’re celebrating it all on Wednesday’s one-year anniversary show! Fans can also vote on their favorite “RapFix Live” freestyles and “RapFix Live” moments on our blog. Be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #RapFixLive.
