Canadian pop singer describes writing song with Redfoo over the phone. By Jocelyn Vena Carly Rae Jepsen Photo: Carly Rae Jepsen has captured America’s collective eardrums with her inescapable hit “Call Me Maybe,” teasing just what pop lovers might hear on her in-the-works full-length debut, set for release in September. In addition to her duet with Owl City on “Good Time” and an already-teased collaboration with her boss, Justin Bieber , the singer has shared that she is also working with LMFAO party rocker Redfoo on the fall release. “I ran into Redfoo from LMFAO at the airport,” she told Billboard magazine, via Ace Showbiz , about the collaboration, explaining that they’ve been writing together over the phone. So he called her, no maybes about it. “And we’ve been writing a song together today. Over the phone. “What I really love about music is that despite all this craziness, the creative process remains the same,” she continued. “And that same exciting feeling I had before anybody knew me, when I was just beginning to work on ‘Call Me Maybe,’ is the same feeling I had today with Redfoo from LMFAO.” Later this year, in addition to dropping her album, she’ll also be hitting the road with Bieber on his massive Believe tour , kicking off in September. “It’s not that I didn’t have my dream show built in my head before all of this — it’s just that I never had the resources together to actually put it to life,” she said. “I feel very giddy with the idea of making my imagination take form and being able to put on a show where people leave feeling like they’ve experienced something.” Related Artists Carly Rae Jepsen Lmfao
‘We were all together presenting something that we felt represented a part of history,’ first-time director/screenwriter tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Angelina Jolie on the set of “In the Land of Blood and Honey” Photo: Ken Regan / GK Films In selecting a subject for her screenwriting and directorial debut, Angelina Jolie did not choose an easy one. While some first-time directors might have gone with a romantic comedy, small-scale film or mainstream subject to tackle, Jolie’s “In the Land of Blood and Honey” is a harrowing, unrelenting drama set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War that highlights the horrors of the ethnic conflict that has occurred far too often throughout history. The film revolves around the relationship between two Bosnians on opposite sides of the conflict, Danijel ( Goran Kostic ) and Ajla ( Zana Marjanovic ) and the devastating toll the war has on their lives. When MTV News caught up with Jolie, Kostic and Marjanovic recently, we asked what aspects they were able to enjoy during the filmmaking process, since so much of the work required of the cast and crew was intense and emotional. “When we were in New York [at the premiere], and we were all together presenting something that we felt represented a part of history and brought dialogue, we were together and we were a family, and I was extremely moved by that,” Jolie said. “That was the best moment.” Jolie tapped into “something that is very personal and very private and very fixed to the region,” said Kostic, a Bosnian Serb who experienced the conflict firsthand. “This [story] could be applied to that region, but equally can be applied worldwide.” Marjanovic, a Bosnian Muslim, recounted her favorite moment being her childhood friend’s reaction to seeing the film for the first time. “Her reaction was so interesting, because she came up and said, ‘I never really understood what it was about … it’s all so confusing, such a complicated area and region, and for the first time, I actually understood what was going on,’ ” Marjanovic recalled. ‘I think for some of the critics, being #1 for six weeks in a row on the Billboard, people said, ‘Now this is a real thing,’ ‘ Redfoo tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi LMFAO’s Redfoo Photo: MTV News To say 2011 has been a big year for LMFAO is an understatement. They released their second album, Sorry for Party Rocking, in June, and from that album came the fist-pumping megahit “Party Rock Anthem.” The #1 song, from the electro-pop duo of Redfoo and SkyBlu, got all music genres (and dancing hamsters) to band together for some excessive party rocking. “Party Rock Anthem” achieved serious success in 2011, staying at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for six straight weeks and becoming the seventh song to spend at least 25 weeks in the top 10. It also came in at the #2 for the best-selling single of the year on iTunes, topped only by Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” The video for “Party Rock Anthem” caused a movement all its own, showing everyone how to shuffle and garnering more than 314 million YouTube views. Now they’re outdoing themselves with their latest single, “Sexy and I Know It,” which has reached #1 on the iTunes chart. MTV News caught up with Redfoo at Z100’s Jingle Ball concert on Friday, and he explained how the success of their chart-topping single has had such an impact on their career. “I think it just brought us into the households via the video, and it just got everybody more into dance music, because now they can shuffle, and so it was just a big thing.” Redfoo said. “I think for some of the critics, being #1 for six weeks in a row on the Billboard, people said, ‘Now this is a real thing.’ ” LMFAO don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. They will ring in the new year along with Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj in New York’s Times Square for the 40th annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” What did you think of LMFAO’s big year? ‘You gotta have moves, whether it be in the bedroom [or] on the dance floor,’ Redfoo tells MTV News about just-released clip. By Jocelyn Vena LMFAO Photo: MTV News LMFAO shuffled their way through the “Party Rock” video, and now they’re hoping to make “the wiggle” the next national dance craze. The guys just dropped their video for “Sexy and I Know It,” and it features lots of metallic Speedos, NSFW wiggling and a few celeb cameos. Redfoo and Sky Blu enlisted the help of their usual Party Rock crew, as well as Simon Rex, Wilmer Valderrama and Ron Jeremy, as they dance their way through Venice Beach and a local bar proving they are sexy and they know it. The video was shot back in late August, and MTV News caught up with LMFAO in Los Angeles as they cast extras for the video. We wanted to know: Just what is sexy? “Sexy is confidence. It’s ‘I don’t care what other people think, but I want them to think I’m sexy at the same time,’ ” Redfoo explained. “It’s a Catch-22. I want to be seen. Sexy is you want attention and you gotta have moves. You gotta have moves, whether it be in the bedroom [or] on the dance floor — just the way you walk, the way you talk.” His party pal, Sky Blu, had this piece of advice for those hoping to prove their sexiness after checking out the clip: “You’ve got to cultivate sexy. Sexy is something that you’ve consciously or unconsciously throughout your life been working on. If you’re in the mirror doing a little helicopter after the shower, that’s sexy and I know it.” Like their previous clips, the video features lots of gyrating dance moves. “It has to become natural to the way you already move, the way you walk,” Redfoo said of their dancing skillz. “It’s the same smooth thang.” What did you think of the “Sexy and I Know It” video?
