Bacteria found in the hot tub at the legendary Playboy Mansion has been identified as the cause of an outbreak of legionella bacteria that affected a number of people that attended a fundraiser at the house. Several people became sick with respiratory illness after DomainFest’s February 1-3 conference which ended with a fundraiser at the Playboy mansion.  Health officials suspected legionellosis as the cause. A severe caseof legionellosis is also known as Legionnaires’ disease. Public health officials contacted 439 people who were in attendance.  Of those, 123 people reported fevers and at least one other symptom.  Sixty-nine of those people became sick on the same day. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued a statement regarding the outbreak: Though Legionella bacteria was identified in a water sample taken from the Playboy Mansion, this bacteria has not been determined as the source of the respiratory outbreak. Other potential causes under investigation include influenza, as three individuals who attended the conference tested later positive for the flu. However, the cause of the outbreak has not been conclusively determined at this time,” the statement said. “Investigations such as this one can take several months. The Los Angeles Times reports that British screenwriter Monjack, 39, was found dead of yet-unknown causes at the home he shared with Murphy, who died in December at age 32 from what a coroner determined was a combination of pneumonia, anemia and multiple drug intoxication. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call at 9:24 p.m. on Sunday for an “unspecified medical aid request,” according to a fire department spokesman. After Fire Department personnel attempted to provide medical assistance to Monjack, he was pronounced dead at the scene. TMZ reported that Murphy’s mother, Sharon, who also discovered her daughter’s body, was the person who found Monjack unconscious in the master bedroom and it was she who called 911 to report the medical emergency. The site claimed that Monjack reportedly died as a result of cardiac arrest, though that has not been confirmed. A death investigation is under way. Following Murphy’s death, Monjack said in an interview that he suffered from seizures and had suffered a heart attack while returning from a vacation in Puerto Rico in 2009. Monjack was born in Hillingdon, England, on August 5, 1970, and is best known for writing and directing the little-seen 2000 movie “Two Days, Nine Lives.” In February, a coroner’s report dispelled rumors that Murphy had died as a result of illegal drug abuse or excessive alcohol intake. A death investigation determined that the pattern of the elevated levels of drugs in her blood “suggest treatment of symptoms of a cold or other respiratory infection.” The report found “no history of alcohol or drug abuse” and Murphy’s body was “normally muscular and slim but not excessively thin.” Related Photos Brittany Murphy: A Career Retrospective

By Actress died from a combination of prescription drugs. Brittany Murphy Photo: Michael Bezjian/ WireImage Brittany Murphy died from a combination of pneumonia, anemia and prescription medication, according to the Los Angeles Coroner’s report released Thursday (February 25). The report’s findings should dispel gossip that the “8 Mile” and “Clueless” actress abused alcohol and illegal drugs or was dangerously underweight. The pattern of the elevated levels of drugs in her blood “suggest treatment of symptoms of a cold or other respiratory infection,” the report reads. “There is no history of alcohol or drug abuse” and “the body appears well developed, normally muscular and slim but not excessively thin.” The 84-page report said that hydrocodone and acetaminophen — both components of Vicodin — were present in her bloodstream, as well as chemicals that are active ingredients in drugstore medicine and some inhalers. Murphy top-lined star vehicles like “Uptown Girls” and “Little Black Book,” appeared in the comic book flick “Sin City” and voiced a main character on Fox’s long-running “King of the Hill.” She was found unresponsive in her Hollywood Hills home Deccember 20. She was 32. Both her husband and mother attempted to revive her. She was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The coroner ruled her death accidental but preventable. Murphy had several projects in the works at the time of her death. “Something Wicked” and “Abandoned,” co-starring Dean Cain, had both finished shooting.
