Amy Pascal Steps Down as Head of Sony Pictures in Wake of The Interview Hacking Scandal

Amy Pascal announced today that she will resign from her post as head of Sony Pictures, effective immediately. Often cited as the movie industry’s top female executive, Pascal has been with Sony since 1996. Her departure comes on the heels of the Sony hacking scandal that was sparked by the release of the controversial Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy, The Interview. Pascal’s resignation might be viewed by some as another cyber warfare victory for the North Korean group responsible for the hacks. However, it’s worth noting that in lieu of renewing her contract, Pascal has signed a production deal with Sony that will have her helming some of the studio’s biggest projects over the next four years. In all likelihood, her resignation is just an attempt by Pascal and Sony to distance themselves from one another in the public’s eye. In addition to being involved in the exchange of the now-infamous racist Barack Obama emails , Pascal was widely criticized for her handling of the hacking scandal. She was at least partially responsible for the decision to pull The Interview from theaters , a move that many regarded as a cowardly concession to the terrorists that may have set a dangerous precedent. While we may never know why exactly Pascal chose to jump ship just as the dust from the hacking scandal has conveniently settled, it seems fairly obvious that this major move would not be taking place, were it not for the efforts of North Korean hackers. 9 Things We Learned From the Sony Hacking Scandal 1. New Ghostbusters Cast Revealed! View Photo One email reveals that the studio is hoping to have Jennifer Lawrence, Melissa McCarthy, Emma Stone, and Lizzy Caplan star in the upoming all-female Ghostbusters reboot. Well, “all-female” isn’t quite accurate. The ladies will be joined by an A-list male star, who will apparently need to be dragged to the set kicking and screaming… 2. Bill Murray is Being Forced to Play Peter Venkman Again View Photo Emails form October of 2013 reveal that Sony threatened legal action in order to get Murray to participate in the new Ghostbusters film. We’re sure he’ll really throw a 110% into the role. 3. Get Ready For Drake (as) Penis! View Photo Apparently Drake will play a character named Penis in an upcoming Spike Lee film. That should help him earn some much-needed street cred. 4. George Clooney Called Rupert Murdoch a “F–ker!” View Photo In one of the funnier leaked messages, Clooney attempts to placate execs who are fearful of being sued for his upcoming film (the appropriately titled Hack Attack). Gorgeous George assures the suits that there’s no need to worry about legal action from “f–kers” like Murdoch. Advertisement A message from our sponsor. 5. J-Law is Known as “Peanutbutt” View Photo Yes, Jennifer Lawrence’s email address begins with “peanutbutt.” It’s probably better if we don’t get the reference. 6. Boba Fett is Back! View Photo In addition to the highly-anticipated JJ Abrams trilogy, there’s a planned series of stand-alone Star Wars films slated for the near future. An email from one Sony exec to a colleague at Disney indicates that one of the films will center around badass bounty hunter Boba Fett! 7. Angie is a Brat View Photo Scott Rudin fired off an email in which he referred to Angelina Jolie as a “minimally talente spoiled brat.” We get the feeling she’s not used to hearing that sort of thing. 8. Sandler Sucks! One Sony exectutive complained about the declining quality of Adam Sandler’s work, as well as the aactor’s lazy apparoach to promoting his own movies. Sometimes the obvious needs to be stated. Advertisement A message from our sponsor. 9. Hollywood Loves Hillary! View Photo Some of the funnier emails come from execs complaining about A-lost stars hitting them up for donations to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. “Steven Spielberg has hit me for 32 f–king k for some Hillary event,” complains one bigwig. And you thought being forced to buy Girl Scout cookies at work was a pain! The End. Did you like 9 Things We Learned From the Sony Hacking Scandal? Bruce Jenner Sex Change Rumors Rekindled: Will He Be a Woman Soon?!

The Bruce Jenner sex change rumors are back with a vengeance, thanks to a new tabloid report claiming that his transition into a woman is nearly complete. According to alleged insiders, he is ” trying out feminine fashions ” like painted nails and sports bras, plus an extra long ponytail … and may be growing breasts. You can’t make this stuff up. Actually you can, if you’re Star (see above, they may very well have made it up out of thin air), but you know what we mean. Asked by photographers recently if any of these Bruce Jenner sex change rumors going around have any merit to them, the Olympic great was mum. (Jenner also just attended the female-favorite Kinky Boots performance in L.A., a musical by Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein that’s all about drag queens.) Despite the speculation, his undeniably different appearance, and his breakup from Kris Jenner, the Keeping Up patriarch’s family has stood by him unabashedly. Kris has vocally termed reports of any Bruce Jenner transformation into the opposite sex ridiculous, while some of his children have been just as adamant. Daughter Kendall Jenner recently discussed the issue on Nightline , expressing her hope to “brush off” any unwanted media attention about her father. “My family, my friends, they know what’s real,” the model in the making said of the rumors surrounding him. “So what else, why does that matter?” The sex change rumors first started circulating when Jenner had his Adam’s Apple shaved down, with Bruce insisting he “just didn’t like” his trachea. He’s clearly not happy with more than that. Does it mean he’s actually becoming a woman in any true sense? Not necessarily. But it makes you wonder. Scroll through the photos below and see what you think … 11 Photos of Bruce Jenner Looking Sort of Like a Woman 1. Bruce Jenner with a Ponytail How long is Bruce Jenner’s hair these days? He can easily wear is in a ponytail.

The Interview: Dropped By All Major Theater Chains

In response to the Sony hacking scandal and threats of violence from a North Korean cyber-terrorist group, all five of the nation’s major theater chains have reportedly chosen not to carry the controversial Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy, The Interview. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Regal Entertainment, AMC Entertainment, Cinemark, Carmike Cinemas, and Cineplex Entertainment have all opted out of showing the film. Yesterday, the group identifying itself as “Guardians of Peace” issued terrorist threats  and promised 9/11-style attacks on theaters that continued with plans to play The Interview. In response, Sony canceled a premiere event and offered contracted theaters the right to refuse the movie. Less than 24 hours later, The Interview has been ousted from every major theater chain, which effectively means that for the time being, there are no plans for the film to be released to the general public. Earlier today, there was talk that Sony hoped theaters would pull The Interview , so that the studio could avoid the PR nightmare of a nationwide release, without looking as though it had given into terrorist demands. If that’s the case, then execs got their wish. Now, however, they’re faced with two unattractive options: shelve the film completely and accept a massive financial loss, or find a different, more low-key approach to releasing it, such as a pay-per-view platform. Either way, it’s profoundly bad news for a film that Sony believed in enough to justify some massive risks. 9 Things We Learned From the Sony Hacking Scandal 1. New Ghostbusters Cast Revealed! Kyle and Mauricio try to be supportive and put on a happy face as well, but Bella’s situation is a scary one for a parent and a tough one for a friend. In California, Eileen is running with her niece and nanny, Annamarie, who she calls the daughter she never had. Eileen opens up about going back to work. For Davidson, work is The Young and the Restless , and we see her brings her son Jessie to work, like she’s been doing since he was just two months old. While it’s been hard for her to balance all this, and full of ups and downs like anyone else’s life, it’s good to be Eileen Davidson . But not in a fake way. That’s the impression we get, anyway. When you watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills online you see a lot of glitz and glamor. She keeps it real. Relatively speaking, of course. Not unlike Lisa Rinna, the other newcomer this season, there’s part of her life we can never relate to, but that’s also the fun. Lisa Vanderpump, meanwhile, is headed to Palm Springs for her Walk of Fame dedication there. Her maid washes Giggy and not Giggy’s outfit. Lisa is pissed. Back in the U.S., Yolanda’s husband David Foster (Bella’s stepdad) says she is struggling with middle child syndrome, and he actually name drops Dr. Phil. Good times right there. As this is going on, Brandi Glanville still trying to work on filtering herself so she can put forth a family friendly version of her podcast. Vivica A. Fox, her guest this week, didn’t get the memo. Brandi Glanville Brandi’s back, and boozy as ever. Spoiler alert: At some point this season, she smacks Lisa Vanderpump. You’d HAVE to be drunk to assault such a classy lady! Lisa arrives in Palm Springs, where it’s 115 degrees, and Lisa Rinna has come along to partake in the festivities. These two together? Comic gold. Rinna talks about her 22-year-old son Max’s girlfriend, who’s 36, and how she just doesn’t get it but knows it’s a battle she can’t win. Smart woman. At the event, the Walk of Fame rolls out the pink carpet for Lisa, and Lance Bass gives a speech about how wonderful she has been to the LBGT community. Fans who watch Vanderpump Rules online know she’s been an active, vocal and high-profile supporter for years, so it’s nice she is honored for her efforts! Back in Beverly Hills, Kim’s daughter Brooke’s wedding is right around the corner, so Kim takes her first husband and Brooke’s dad, Monty, for a pedicure. He was recently diagnosed with cancer, so he’s been living with her. They were married just two years, when Kim was 19-21, but have stayed close. The Interview Premiere Canceled Amid Terrorist Threats as Sony Fallout Escalates

Threats of violence against movie theaters and moviegoers resulted in the cancelation of Thursday’s scheduled premiere of The Interview in New York City. The Interview Movie Trailer The fallout from the ongoing Sony Pictures Entertainment hack reached a fever pitch Tuesday with threats from the shadowy group claiming responsibility. Calling themselves Guardians of Peace, the group vowed a massive campaign of violence akin to September 11, 2001 if the movie hit theaters as planned. The reason hackers are so upset over this absurd-looking comedy? The film features Seth Rogen and James Franco as television journalists involved in a CIA plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Speculation about a North Korean link to the Sony hacking has centered on that country’s rage against the film and earlier threat of “merciless” retaliation. The Department of Homeland Security said there was “no credible intelligence” to corroborate the threat against movie theaters , but is still analyzing messages. The warning did prompt law enforcement in New York and L.A. to address security measures, and Sony to allow theaters to pull The Interview if desired. The Interview Trailer Right on cue, a spokesperson for Landmark Sunshine cinemas said the NYC premiere of The Interview, scheduled for Thursday night, has been canceled. Carmike Cinemas, which operates 247 theaters across the country, was the first to nix planned showings of the film , according to The Hollywood Reporter . Rogen and Franco pulled out of all media appearances, canceling a Buzzfeed Q&A and Rogen’s planned guest spot on Late Night With Seth Meyers . GOP (as Guardians of Peace is often dubbed) has released a trove of data files including 32,000 emails to and from Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton. Two former Sony film production workers filed lawsuits alleging the company waited too long to notify nearly 50,000 employees that data was breached. Since the hack surfaced late last month, everything from financial figures to salacious emails between top Sony executives has been dumped online. Here’s a look at some of what we’ve learned so far … 9 Things We Learned From the Sony Hacking Scandal 1. New Ghostbusters Cast Revealed!
