Miley Cyrus Breaks Down at Janice Freeman Memorial Service

Miley Cyrus could barely keep it together on Monday. For a very good and very understandable, and very sad, reason. The Grammy nominee was scheduled to perform a song at the memorial of Janice Freeman — but was too distraught to do so, tearfully introducing her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, to sing a rendition of “Amazing Grace” instead. She explained why to those in attendance. “Before we sing this song for Janice, I just want to clear up a rumor. I was never her coach,” Miley, voice shaky, in this video, adding: “Ever. She was always mine. I learned more from her than anyone that I’ve ever gotten honored to be in the room with, not just vocally. “I should have gotten more lessons than I did, but she taught me everything that I know about love.” Cyrus did technically serve as Freeman's mentor on Season 13 of The Voice. Freeman died on March 2 at the age of 33, to the sadness and shock of those who knew her well. A spokesperson for Freeman's family confirmed to in a statement at the time that she passed away due to combined complications of lupus and a bronchial infection. “On Saturday afternoon, Janice began complaining that she couldn't breathe properly and, in a matter of minutes, required CPR from her husband,” the rep said of her passing . “He called 911, continuing to do CPR until paramedics arrived. “While Janice arrived at the hospital alive, continued efforts could not save her. Doctors believe a blood clot had formed in her lungs, which led to her quick demise. Janice Freeman died at 5:30 p.m. PST.” So very sad. Cyrus quickly paid tribute to the aspiring singer, sharing the photo of a rainbow that you see above. “Thank you @janicefreeman.. for everything. This represents you perfectly,” wrote the star as a caption. Cyrus and Freeman were far more than just colleagues. They became so close that Cyus at one time helped Freeman afford a new home. ““@MileyCyrus you are one of my closest friends and what you did for me and my family Im praying GOD gives you the desire of your heart!” wrote Freeman in response last year. At her memorial service this week, Cyrus continued through tears: “I had planned on singing a song for her, but just losing her is just too much for me. “So … my dad’s gotta take care of this for me. But I’ll always be your sister, and I’m here for you, and I’m here for your family. And Janice, I’ll miss you more than I could ever say.” Cyrus later joined in on her father's performance of “Amazing Grace.” Watch the emotional footage here.

‘Detective Pikachu’ Is The Live-Action Film That Every Pokémon Fan Dreamed Of

Go here to read the rest:

Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. Live-action films are very much a thing now, but very few of them are as highly anticipated as Detective Pikachu. The long overdue Pokemon adventure hits theaters this May, and we got a chance to visit the set of the Rob Letterman directed flick. Ryan Reynolds stars as the infamous pocket monster, Pikachu, whose CGI form looks amazingly realistic yet light and cartoonish at the same time. Justice Smith also stars in the film as as Tim Goodman, a former Pokémon trainer looking for his missing father. Goodman is also Detective Pikachu’s partner, and the only person that can hear hear him speak. We spoke to Justice on the London, England set of DP and he dished more on what is was like having an animated co-star and how much he enjoyed working with Ryan Reynolds. “Ryan is awesome, he’s hilarious. So, we basically went through the whole film with Ryan on a soundstage, with Ryan in a motion-capture helmet. And, so I got to see how he improvised, what he was gonna do, what he was gonna say, how he was gonna act. And then we have a reader who reads Ryan’s lines, but I essentially have to remember what Ryan did on the day. And then do my side of it, when we’re shooting.” Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. “Things change around, and they’re gonna fix some stuff in post with Ryan, but for the most part it comes down to memory. We also recorded the tape so I can listen to them back, and remember what he did. But it’s just the whole team trying to work together, and they have been. It’s a really difficult beast. But it was insane. I can’t even explain it. It’s my childhood dream come true” Speaking of the set —production designer Nigel Phelps brought the Pokemon Universe to life in ways that will your mind when you see the film. According to Phelps, he made it a point to not borrow  architecture or inspiration from any of the fictional cities in the 2016 Japanese video from whence the film was based on. Instead, he opted for more realistic details, such as tall skyscrapers and underground fight clubs, that makes the viewer feel like the Pokemon Universe is an actual place on the planet. “We’re trying to make a very realistic film, albeit with the most strange cast of characters that make it very unworldly. We’re trying to create a world where, in the fantastic beasts sense of the word, we’ve got a very realistic environment, where these amazing creatures can exist in a believable fashion.” Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. “The color patterns have been quite neutral, so lots of grays and blacks and whites, to help offset the very, the pattern of colors that all the creatures have. And a lot of them are really tiny as well, so it got right down with all the floors and a lot of the ground surfaces, so that you get, any color that we have on the light stuff is reflected on the floor. All the streets and the exterior stuff is in and around the city of London and Shoreditch.” The fashion in the film is pretty next level, too!  One of the scenes fight club moment in the Pokemon Battle Arena a.k.a Rhyme City (ran by Charizard’s owner Sebastian)  aesthetically called for very grungy yet kitchy vibes. Costume Designer Susie Harmon told us, “It’s very, probably the most creative out-there look. Some punk meets goth meets Tokyo street fashion; anything basically. RnB, you name it. Everything just mashed up together, underground fight club basically. Did a lot of research in the anime, to get a sense of what the key looks were.” “Especially for the lead actors, just to give it a grounded but that slight cartoony feel about it. Just to give it the silhouette and how the guys tend to wear their clothes in the anime, and the women, with those lovely little skirts, and the hair. So yeah, definitely to get a sense of fully anime, rather than the games.” Earlier this month, it was announced that Detective Pikachu will also be adapted into a graphic novel . According to Legendary Comics, an official movie graphic novel titled POKÉMON Detective Pikachu will debut online and in stores in summer 2019, following the film’s release. There’s also a sequel to the 2019 film already in the works. Detective Pikachu will definitely make all of your nostalgic, 90’s, Pokemon dreams come.  Don’t miss out on the live-action when hits theaters on May 10.

Put Some Respek on Her Name: Was Maya Angelou’s Response To This Girl Rude?

Read the original:

Source: Karega Kofi Moyo / Getty Friday morning, a video of the late, great, and ever-so-eloquent Dr. Maya Angelou surfaced where she corrects a young woman who her calls her “Maya.” And for some reason, the internet has become divided over it. Please know that Maya Angelou is trending nationally because there are some young folks who are offended that she directed a young woman to call her Ms. Angelou instead of Maya in a 20-year-old clip. We are doomed. pic.twitter.com/XD1odHh0cV — Yashar Ali (@yashar) March 15, 2019 In the clip, the young woman tells the moderator she has a question for “Maya” regarding interracial relationships. Maya says calmly, “Thank you. And first, I’m Ms. Angelou. I’m not Maya.” The girl repeats Angelou, to which Angelou replies “Yes ma’am.” “I’m 62 years old.” She continues.” I’ve lived so long and tried so hard that a young woman like you, or any other, has no license to come up to me and call me by my first name. That’s first. Also, because at the same time, I’m your mother, I’m your auntie, I’m your teacher, I’m your professor. See?” Now, I can’t believe we have to unpack this, but here we are. The young girl in this clip was by no means trying to be disrespectful, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t. In today’s society, we need to own up to hurting, angering, or disrespecting someone else even if it was not the intention. Angelou is accomplished and deserves to be called whatever she pleases. For anyone taken aback by this legendary black woman, elderly black woman, educated black woman asserting her presence and brilliance to the youth and be it anyone else who is watching, you have a clear misunderstanding of where and how respect is derived. Angelou did not disrespect the young girl, humiliate her, or anything seemingly close to that. This moment, like any other moment with Ms. Angelou, is a teaching moment. TBH, the young girl does not appear to be as rattled as the internet, with some users calling Angelou rude. Son Maya Angelou didn’t say anything about respecting your elders, she said “you don’t have the LICENSE to call me that” and that was fucking rude — The Many Faced Gawd (@KarlynMuva) March 15, 2019 Maya Angelou was rude af. There I said it. https://t.co/AIIltIjCiq — Camille (@ceedoesitbest) March 15, 2019 Rude. Tired of old people feeling superior for no reason, she knew it was wrong so she apologized at the end of the show. — moni (@naturefairyknj) March 15, 2019 While others were shocked that some youngsters believed they could call Angelou, let alone any older individual, by their first name. if you think Maya Angelou is in the wrong you can unfollow me now, go to your nearest purveyor of LEGOs, purchase several, return to your domicile, distribute the LEGOs across the floor, remove your shoes and socks, and walk across said LEGOs — wikipedia brown is voting for toni (@eveewing) March 15, 2019 And many wanted to let Angelou’s name rest in power. Maya Angelou is dead she is the literal definition of unbothered can y’all stop trying to drag a new dead person every week when you’re bored — Ira Madison III (@ira) March 15, 2019 I will physically fight anyone trying to drag Maya Angelou. — Preston Mitchum (@PrestonMitchum) March 15, 2019 P.S. She even apologized to the young girl in second clip making its rounds on the net. Later in the video, Maya Angelou apologized to the young girl for being short with her so everyone calling people “sensitive” for noticing the disrespect in her initial response can relax lol pic.twitter.com/fScII5YQvS — kae (@sportyidk) March 15, 2019 Regardless, this bit of backlash highlights a bigger issue and that’s the blatant disregard and disrespect towards one another – especially towards black women! When we assert ourselves we are rude, angry, and every other abrasive word even if the message we convey is with a calm tone. Angelou worked hard for her titles and even without them, she’s our elder so put some respek on her name and let the legend rest. Kat Von D: I PROMISE I’m Not a Nazi and I’m Probably Not an Anti-Vaxxer!

Back in January, fans were alarmed when Kat Von D announced that her baby would be unvaccinated . Yikes . Accusations that she is an anti-vaxxer only added to her problems, as for years, rumors have abounded that she is, well, a Nazi. In an emotional video, Kat Von D sits down to explain to fans how those rumors began and to unequivocally state that she's nothing of the sort. “As a lot of you know,” Kat says at the beginning of the video. “I have been getting a ton of hate over two different controversial topics.” “Both of which are pretty hard for me to talk about,” she admits. “But I just really want to try my best to clear the air.” “Just to set the record straight from the beginning,” Kat affirms. “I just want to say that I am not anti-Semitic and I am not an anti-vaxxer” We live in a time when some will balk at rejecting either label. If you've ever seen some dirtbag YouTuber say “well, define Nazi” when confronted on Twitter, you know that Kat is already doing pretty well. We know how she got labeled as an anti-vaxxer. But how did folks decide that she's a Nazi? “Out of every comment I’ve gotten, the ones that are calling me and family Nazis,” Kat says. “Those are the ones that really just don’t sit well for me.” “If anything,” she says. “They’re extremely offensive and super hurtful.” Kat, having already affirmed that she is not a Nazi, notes that she and her family are Mexican by birth. Her mother even has dark skin, she notes. She explains that the Nazi rumors began with a doctored photo created by a jealous coworker. Kat Von D says that one of her co-stars on Miami Ink was very insecure about her popularity on the show. She says that she was hazed on set, and that she was also sexually harassed and groped by this jealous male castmate. Kat planned to leave the show after an incident in which she was groped and none of the witnesses, who were castmates, responded. She says that the jealous castmate, who had tried to blackmail the network into canceling her show, had doctored a photo of her to make it look Nazi-esque. When she got her own show, she says, he went to media outlets and pushed this false narrative. “Overnight,” Kat laments. “I was just falsely branded as an anti-Semite and I had no idea how to handle it or what to do.” “I am not an anti-vaxxer,” Kat clarifies, addressing the more recent controversy. “What I am is a first-time mother,” she says. “I’m one of those moms that reads everything.” Kat explains: “I mean I read everything from ingredients in foods to cleaning supplies to medicines.” “Basically anything that is going in my baby or on my baby,” she says. “I research like a complete and total nerd.” Sometimes, when people without medical degrees or a keen grasp of biochemistry look at ingredients on life-saving medicines, they get needlessly alarmed. “So back when I was pregnant, somebody asked me on Instagram if we were vaccinating our baby,” Kat details. “And after doing a bunch of research and reading the ingredients, naturally I experienced some hesitancy,” she admits. “If I would have known that I would have let so many people down with that,” she shares. “I would have never, ever shared where we were at with it at that time.” Note that she sounds sorry for speaking out, not sorry for her scientifically unsound conclusion back in January. But, you know, this is at least progress. “Since then, we have decided as parents to consult with our pediatrician and just let him educate us and guide us,” Kat promises fans. “But, unlike before,” she says. “I have learned my lesson and I am choosing not to make our decision public.” While any pediatrician who isn't a total quack would advise Kat to get her baby fully vaccinated, she doesn't really promise that. It does sound like she's genuinely sorry that fans were upset. But when a parent declines to vaccinate, fans are not the victims — the child, and perhaps countless others, are put at risk. We hope that Kat will understand the vital importance of vaccinations for protecting the child in question and those who truly cannot be vaccinated. You can view the entirety of Kat Von D's YouTube video here . It is very moving. For the record, there were other reasons for which Kat was accused of being a Nazi. Her ex-boyfriend, Jesse James, has appeared in some extremely questionable photos alongside Nazi imagery. She also once gave a makeup product an extremely unfortunate name. We hope that it was just an oversight. For what it's worth, we don't believe that Kat Von D is a Nazi. As for vaccinations, we can only say that we are very confident that she does not want to be labeled as an anti-vaxxer.

Demi Lovato Opens Up on Sad Anniversary: I Would’ve Been 7 Years Sober!

Back in July of 2018, Demi Lovato suffered an overdose that nearly claimed her life. Lovato recently reached a milestone in her recovery and is soon to be eight months sober. But this week, there’s a different anniversary on the pop icon’s mind. “Today I Would’ve had 7 years sober,” Demi wrote on her Instagram page over the weekend. “I don’t regret going out because I needed to make those mistakes, but I must never forget that’s what they were: mistakes,” she added. When Demi says “going out” here, she’s not referring to hitting the club (her overdose took place in a private residence). Instead, she’s using popular AA terminology: “going out” is a common euphemism for relapsing. From there, Lovato went on to express her gratitude to the organization (along with Narcotics Anonymous) and its compassionate response to roadblocks on the path to recovery. “Grateful that AA/NA never shuts the door on you no matter how many times you have to start your time over,” she wrote. “I didn’t lose 6 years; I’ll always have that experience but now I just get to add to that time with a new journey and time count.” Demi is clearly optimistic about her continued recovery, and sources say she’s fully committed to the hard work of staying sober. There were concerns among fans when Demi began dating Henry Levy shortly after leaving treatment. The couple had met in rehab, and though Levy was newly sober himself, those who are new to recovery are commonly discouraged from entering new relationships, particularly with other people who might be vulnerable to relapses. These days, Demi and Henry are broken up, though it’s unclear if the decision had anything to do with one or both parties opting to focus on their sobriety. Lovato concluded her most recent post with a message of hope for others who may have suffered setbacks in their recovery: “If you’ve relapsed and are afraid to get help again, just know it’s possible to take that step towards recovery,” she wrote. “If you’re alive today, you can make it back. You’re worth it.” During the six years that Demi was substance-free, she often served as an inspiration to others who were in recovery. Now, it seems she’s eager to embrace that role once more. We wish Demi all the best in her sobriety, and we thank her for the inspiration she provides to so many millions of fans.  View Slideshow: Demi Lovato: Everything We Know About Her Overdose So Far

Matt Roloff Celebrates Girlfriend Caryn Chandler’s Birthday in Sweet Post

Fans are so hyped now that the Season 14 trailer for Little People, Big World has finally dropped. Not long after the teaser, Matt Roloff took to social media to give a birthday shoutout to girlfriend Caryn Chandler. In the same post, he made a major production announcement about his family’s show. Matt Roloff shared this precious group photo on Instagram. “Love all these people!!” Matt captions the image. As if there had been any doubt! He then wishes “A very very happy birthday to my sweet girlfriend Caryn. …” Despite the relationship’s controversy among some so-called fans, Caryn is a central part of his life and has been for years. In the same caption, Matt also delivered a major produciton update for viewers of the family’s show. “Today we wrapped filming the season of  LPBW  …” Matt shares. (Note: sometimes, people of older generations uses elipses to create a pause in their words, even though it can read as hostility or frustration to younger folks on social media) Matt then announces: “tomorrow it’s off to Arizona for a few weeks!” Gosh, he and Caryn sure do love vacationing in Arizona. So much so that they purchased a house together — from Caryn’s own parents. The photo was very popular among fans. “Love this family picture,” one followers writes. “Jackson and Ember are growing so fast.” They really are!  “You have a beautiful family,” raves another commenter. “I just love you all.” “Tell Caryn Happy Birthday!!” that same fan continues. “Enjoy your time in [Arizona].” We are sure that they will. That production note, that they have wrapped filming, is amazing news for the Roloffs. It’s also great news for fans, who are more than eager. The latest trailer teased a great deal, including Matt and Caryn directly addressing the idea of becoming engaged and, eventually, married. Some viewers of the show believe that Caryn is merely after fame or Matt’s money, but that is unfair. Just watching them together makes their mutual love very clear. The trailer teased more than just romance, however. It looks like moving on with his life with Caryn may mean that Matt leaves farm life behind. The problem is that Amy isn’t sure that she wants to part with her stake in the property. Part of that is that she’s business-savvy and suspects that Matt knows something that she does not. But part of it is just that, well, she knows that a buyout could mean that she never sees Roloff Farms again. Amy tends to be cautious and to consider things, while Matt can be impulsive or event impatient. Their clash is going to make for some interesting television. Of course, the trailer also reminds viewers of Amy’s romance with boyfriend Chris Marek. They’ve been dating for years and their love is palpable. The same fans who disparage Caryn Chandler tend to also take aim at Chris. Some of them simply want to see Amy and Matt get back together. Some are much worse — and seem to carry and underlying belief that any person of average height dating a little person must have an agenda. Whatever happened to two people falling in love? Anna Duggar: Totally Unrecognizable Following Major Weight Loss!

Usually, when Anna Duggar makes the news, it’s because fans have once again become outraged by the fact that she continues to c-sign the behavior of her monstrous husband. So it’s a nice change of pace to see the beleaguered mother of five making tabloid headlines due to something positive: Believe it or not, that’s the latest pic of Anna. Actually, it’s a screenshot from her since-deleted Instagram story that’s been captured and circulated by Duggar fans who are in awe of her appearance. As you may know, the wife of Bad Touch Josh has been thoroughly committed to fitness in recent months. Just last week, we learned the details of Anna’s workout regimen , and it seems she’s not messing around when it comes to getting her cardio on and shedding those extra pounds. It seems Anna had resolved to walk 50 miles in the month of February. She actually exceeded her goal by 5 miles, and she celebrated by announcing that she intends to step her game up in March. There have been no progress reports on Anna’s “march through March” initiative, but based on her latest pics, the 30-year-old is having no trouble slimming down. Interestingly, the heavily scrutinized screenshot of Anna is from a video in which she spoke with fans about a favorite dessert: “One of many (literally) ‘sweet’ memories I have of my Grandma Stembridge was when she taught my sisters and I how to bake a pie from scratch — crust and all,” Anna captioned the post. “So since it’s National Pi Day we grabbed a bag of apples, headed to Grandma & Grandpa Duggar’s house to feed the animals while they are out of town… and then baked Great-Grandma Stembridge’s apple pie,” she added. “Our children look forward to meeting their Great-grandma in heaven some day — for now we are enjoying her pie!” The video sparked rumors that Josh and Anna’s “comeback tour” is still going strong, and the couple is hoping to return to television sometime in the very near future. Frankly, we’re of the opinion that they’re chasing a pipe dream. Even if the majority of Duggar fans are willing to forget about Josh’s sex crimes (which hopefully they’re not), TLC would likely never approve the re-casting of Josh, and Counting On would be sure to lose advertisers if he returned to the show.  Divorce is forbidden in the Duggars’ world, so Anna is stuck with her philandering husband. But on the bright side, at least she appears to be taking care of herself. View Slideshow: Josh Duggar Sex Scandal Timeline: How His Family’s Empire Crumbled

Kodak Black Claims He Handed Sticky Fingaz Of Onyx The Fade

Source: gotpap/Bauer-Griffin / Getty Kodak Black has a penchant for the outlandish statement, and the young Florida rapper once again proved that point in a recent video. Taking to Instagram Live, Kodak claims he punched Sticky Fingaz of Onyx fame in the face and discovered the veteran rapper was allegedly walking around with a fake gun. In the video clip, Kodak is seen talking to fans about the alleged incident although he doesn’t say where or when it happened. What is clear is that Kodak was clearly agitated by Sticky’s presence. “I ain’t like his old head energy, ’cause I don’t really like older people like that,” Kodak shared. “I’m a ’90s baby. I don’t got no respect for y’all. So, this n*gga he was on my bus, like…I ain’t never say this, but tonight I’m gonna say it. This f*ck n*gga, he was playing crazy on my bus, and I ain’t like that. I ain’t even know why my cousin let this f*ck n*gga or where he met this n*gga at.” Kodak goes on to explain that he punched Sticky and then rummaged through the rapper’s bag in where he discovered the alleged fake firearm. Quite a wild story, if true. Check out the video of Kodak Black claiming he gave Sticky Fingaz the fade in the clip below. Cardi F Minus: Gentrif-Iggy Azalea Getting Clowned For A Gluten Free Version Of “Money” That Literally Zero Human Beings Asked For Or Want

Source: Alberto E. Rodriguez / Getty Is Iggy Azalea’s Video A Cardi Knockoff? Iggy Azalea is back, y’all! Miss Milk Of Rapnesia is re-entering the rap fray to remind the game not to forget her in the midst of the women in rap resurgence we’re seeing in 2019. Her new single “Sally Walker” is heating up Youtube and is poised to be a big hit but there’s a big problem…internet fans think it sounds strikingly similar to Cardi B’s “Money” single from 2018. Azalea’s song has the same producer and co-writer and the songs are nearly identical. But that’s not it, the video features Iggy again surrounded by black people. This time at a funeral. It’s another example of Iggy black-facing it up without the actual makeup. Twitter is damn near beside itself over all of this and wondering why, in the age of Megan Thee Stallions and prominent, talented black MCs is Iggy Azalea thinking she can find space to insert her cultural appropriation.
