Vin Diesel has shared a new photo on social media of himself and the late Paul Walker in the upcoming seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. Universal sent him some photos, Diesel said on Facebook, along with the movie’s trailer. Naturally, he was quick to share this photo of the co-stars and friends: “Universal came to visit, to show the trailer for FF7 ,” Vin wrote. “Speechless… yeah, it was that INCREDIBLE! I must also say, that it was emotional and bittersweet.” “We all went above and beyond to make Pablo proud,” he adds, “but man, I wish he could see what we have created and just how far we have come.” By Pablo he means Paul Walker, who died in a car accident last Thanksgiving weekend at age 40, leaving a beautiful daughter, and legacy, behind. Even though the star’s tragic death delayed Fast and Furious 7 considerably, the filmmakers used CGI and Walker’s two brothers to complete it. Paul is survived by his four siblings – two brothers, two sisters – and his teenage daughter, Meadow Walker , who has understandably taken his loss very hard. The future of Fast and Furious 7 was very much in doubt for some time after Walker passed, but Diesel and company feel this will be a fitting tribute. It will be dedicated to Walker’s memory, as without the late actor’s contributions, there would be no seventh film – or franchise in general, to put it mildly. Sadly, when it debuts in April 2015, it will be Paul’s final film, and his character Brian O’Connor will be retired from the franchise, whatever comes of it. Exciting news for Gina Carano fans: According to a THR report, the Haywire star/former MMA fighter is in talks to join the cast of Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 . Carano would play a member of the Diplomatic Security Agent working under Dwayne Johnson’s agent Luke Hobbs, who was last seen in the post-credits of Fast 5 sniffing out the trail of Dominic Toretto & Co. Details on the plot are still under wraps, but give how the last sequel ended it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to hope for a potential… girl fight , if you will, between Carano’s character and a certain franchise favorite. Much of director Olivier Megaton’s female assassin pic Colombiana coasts on a certain popcorn movie badass factor — lithe star Zoe Saldana as stone-cold killer hell-bent on vengeance for the murder of her family, slinking through missions in skintight catsuits (or less) and gracefully blasting away bad guys with beautifully cold precision in the grand tradition of producer Luc Besson’s most famous female killers. But Saldana feels a more weighty responsibility when it comes to her action heroine debut and how its success might affect opportunities for women in film to follow.
If there’s one simple request I have of Kevin Spacey, it’s that he take one movie off from wearing a suit. Mix it up! Grow your hair out! Wear schlubby clothes! Don’t always be so Kevin Spacey-esque, Kevin Spacey, because it’s become a thing and we’re all tired of it. Which is why the new trailer for the indie comedy Father of Invention seems a step in the right direction. Long prison beard and an everyman’s sense of humility? Bring it on, Spaceman.
Director Justin Lin had no idea how well his supercharged sequel Fast Five would go on to perform back when he was filming it — but he prepped, shot, and cut a 12-minute sequence for a sixth Fast & Furious film (his next upcoming production) just in case: “I already have a 12-minute sequence done. I did it just as an exercise. I had it done before we were finished with Fast Five , actually. So I wanted to do that just to have it there and to be honest with you, I didn’t know if I was going to do a Fast Six . I didn’t know if people were going to embrace Fast Five and we were going to have an opportunity. But I felt like I really wanted to make sure that the last scene, which I had talked to Vin [Diesel] about countless times — I wanted to make sure that was done.” [ Box Office Magazine ]
