2015 Emmy Awards: Who Got Snubbed?

Tatiana Maslany was finally nominated for an Emmy Award this year. Hooray! Thank goodness! It's about time! But while we're psyched to see the Orphan Black star up for Outstanding Actress in a Drama, we're sad to NOT to see certain stars and shows up for certain trophies on September 20. With that in mind, here's a look at the biggest Emmy snubs from this year… along with the stars or series we think they should have replaced. 1. The Americans for Best Drama The Americans is only the best written, most tense show on television. Downton Abbey, meanwhile, has grown worse each year. 2. Walton Goggins for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Led by Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins, Justified delivered a terrific final season. Jim Carter? He doesn’t have a quarter of the range that Goggins possesses. 3. Gina Rodriguez for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Gina Rodriguez was a breath of young, fresh air on Jane the Virgin this year. We adore Edie Falco, meanwhile, she may be the best TV actress of her generation. But not when it comes to comedy. 4. The Good Wife for Best Drama Homeland is a once-great show that is now a shadow of its former self. The Good Wife must produce nearly twice as many episodes as dramas on cable… and yet it keeps getting better. 5. Eva Green for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Eva Green deserves recognition for that seance scene alone. We’d give her the spot occupied by Robin Wright of House of Cards. 6. Matthew Rhys for Outstanding Actor in a Drama As mentioned before, Matthew Rhys stars on the best show on TV. Jeff Daniels, meanwhile, starred on an Aaron Sorkin soapbox. View Slideshow

Vin Diesel Is… Kojak

If you haven’t been following Vin Diesel ‘s Facebook page , you are missing out on the dorkiest and most touching thing in all the universe. Vin and his 36,982,149 devoted fans live in perfect, sentimentally cheeseball symbiosis, and those fans are a huge part of why he continues to be able to make movies. Chief among them is the incredibly successful Fast & Furious series, which has earned more than $1.5 billion for Universal Pictures. No doubt Universal is counting on that for the upcoming big screen adaptation of the classic 1970s cop show Kojak , because they’ve done the obvious and genius thing: They’re making Vin Diesel the new Telly Savalas. Kojak featured the late, great Savalas as a tough, charming, and proudly bald NYC detective whose greatest joys were a nice suit, catching bad guys, and attempting to cut down on smoking by sucking on Tootsie Pops. The show ran from 1973 to 1978 before being cancelled due to slipping ratings, but it lived on in a series of TV movies for which Savalas reprised the role. An attempted reboot starring Ving Rhames was produced in 2005 for USA, but as this was prior to that network striking gold with what now feels like an endless supply of quirky hour long dramas, the series was cancelled after only one season. The Kojak movie will be penned by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, the duo behind the last 5 James Bond films. That’s no guarantee of quality – they did write Die Another Day , after all – but given how Justin Lin’s stewardship of the Fast & Furious series kind of turned Diesel’s Dominic Toretto into the dumber and more lovable version of Bond, one has high hopes for the combination. And frankly, casting Vin as Kojak feels like the three suns had aligned and the Dark Crystal is about to be restored; he looks good in a suit, he’s bald and proud, and more importantly, he is that perfect combination of teddy bear and badass. Hopefully, Kojak will feature as much sparkle-magic Vin Diesel as it can get away with. [ Deadline ] Follow Ross A. Lincoln on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

‘Predators’: The Reviews Are In!

‘ ‘Predators’ is a B movie that knows its job, and does it,’ MTVNews.com’s Kurt Loder says. By Eric Ditzian Alice Braga, Walton Goggins and Adrien Brody in “Predators” Photo: 20th Century Fox The filmmakers behind the new movie “Predators” decided to pretend the last three movies in the sci-fi horror franchise never happened and instead set their story as if it takes place directly after the 1987 original. That was probably a wise call on their part, seeing as each successive “Predator” installment was less beloved, culminating with the disgraceful mash-up “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.” How beloved will “Predators” ultimately be? With the film opening on Friday (July 9), reviews have been pouring in, and they’re largely positive — if not on par with the original, then respectably, satisfyingly close. Let’s take a deep dive into the “Predators” reviews to see what people are saying. The Story ” ‘Predators’ is a B movie that knows its job, and does it. Which means, among other things, that making sense is not on its to-do list. The picture opens with a group of people falling from the sky into a jungle. What are they doing here? None of them knows. … [T]hey’re all prey on this strange planet, which turns out to be an off-world hunting ground for Predators, whose day-trip spacecraft is invisibly parked nearby. As you’d expect, the picture consists — with the exception of a visit to a batty survivor played by Laurence Fishburne — of each of the human interlopers being put away like finger food by the wily monsters.” — Kurt Loder, MTVNews.com The Actors “Think of it as ‘Avatar’ with more gore, a lot less wit, and Adrien Brody (and his Situation-like abs) as the alpha-male leader of a doomed pack of tough guys, gruffly barking orders as he tries to get inside the mind of you know who. Topher Grace does his signature smart-ass quipster thing, Alice Braga is the tough chick with a big heart, and Laurence Fishburne drops by to lend the film its only bit of unpredictable fun as a loco, Kurtz-like soldier of fortune who’s gone native. These aren’t characters, they’re cardboard clich
