Steve King Stripped Of House Committee Seats After Racist Remarks You GOTTA be a flaming racist if even the Republicans are kicking you out of their lil’ conservative clubhouse. According to The Washington Post , Rep. Steve King of Iowa was unanimously voted out of his three seats on prestigious House committees Monday afternoon after making yet another extremely racist remark. King has a long history of making comments that earned him the title of bigot, we reported on his most recent racist rhetoric last week when he questioned why white supremacy was such a bad thing. Yes, a man who white people voted into office to govern the United States of America doesn’t see why people are so offended by a lil’ white supremacy. Doesn’t everyone like a lil’ white supremacy in their coffee? No? Just Steve King and 53% of white women? Got it. Sure, maybe some of the GOPers aren’t cool with King’s comments, but he’s literally been saying these things for YEARS. This smells more like damage control for the 2020 election more than righteous indignation toward the fellow red state racist. “That is not the party of Lincoln,” he said of King’s comments. “It is definitely not American. F rom Stacey Abrams to Kamala Harris , a handful of Black women politicians and candidates have been helping the Democratic party to gain traction despite the group’s history of inadequate support of their efforts. The list of women who have won primaries in recent months indicates that voters want women of color represented in political positions across the nation. Black women candidates are challenging underrepresentation with strategic voter mobilization efforts and agendas important to voters. With that, they have secured notable victories, from Abrams in the Georgia gubernatorial primary to Ayanna Pressley in Massachusetts’ 7th congressional district race . Jahana Hayes , a teacher, is running for Connecticut’s 5th congressional district, and Lauren Underwood , a political advisor and registered nurse, set her sights on representing Illinois 14th Congressional district. Letitia James , public advocate for the city of New York, has entered the state’s Attorney General race. Of course, Black women Democrats already in office have pushed for more transparency, accountability and social change in their roles. San Francisco Mayor London Breed had advocated for the city to stop charging post-jail fees to residents already in poverty — a wish which came true when a court pardoned a $32 million fee for 21,000 people last month. Senator Harris, the lone Black woman in the Senate, posed questions to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh about his views on Charlottesville “Unite The Right” rally and more during his confirmation hearing this week. Black women who are running to the polls, not for office, have also held it down for the party, which is seeking to gain a majority in the House and Senate come November. The voting bloc has its strength in numbers, having gotten Abrams to a primary win in May. Black women had also shown up at the ballot box in large numbers for elections in Virginia and Alabama last year. Both candidates and voters have asked the Democratic party to better address issues facing people of color such as healthcare and the economy. Democrats haven’t even thrown enough support behind Black women candidates, with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) only endorsing Underwood. Democrats are being called on to do more to support candidates so they can do more to support voters and address their issues. Dallas Mayor Says He’s More Fearful Of Armed White Men Than Syrian Refugees The mayor of Dallas is firing back against bigoted politicians who say Americans should not allow Syrian refugees to enter its border, saying he is “more fearful” of armed white men than people fleeing civil war in the Middle East according to Think Progress . Speaking to MSNBC on Saturday morning, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings was asked to discuss the growing anxiety over Syrian refugees entering the United States, purportedly over concerns they could be potential agents for militant groups such as ISIS. Rawlings staunchly rejected the assertion that Syrians are somehow uniquely prone to violence, saying he is more concerned with the rise of white supremacy and the recent flurry of mass shootings committed by white men. “I am more fearful of large gatherings of white men that come into schools, theaters and shoot people up, but we don’t isolate young white men on this issue,” Rawlings said. He also said that vilifying refugees only helps ISIS, as doing so falls into their “trap.” He then pushed back on the notion that ISIS is somehow representative of Islam. “ISIS is no more Islamic than Nazi senior staff was Christian,” he said. He also subtly challenged Christian governors and other followers of Christ who have rejected refugees, referencing Jesus’ scriptural call to “welcome the stranger” in Matthew 25:41-43, asking, “Christ following people like myself — how do we deal with this issue of strangers, and are we going to let them in?” Rawlings, meanwhile, has said he is willing to welcome refugees to his city, telling the Dallas Morning News that helping them is part of the “the spirit of Dallas.” WELP!
