For Discussion: TIME Magazine Excludes Hollywood Starlet Lupita Nyong’o From Their “Most Influential People” List…Do You Agree?

Both Lupita and transgendered “Orange Is New Black” actress Laverne Cox were both left off of the list. Should they have made the cut? TIME Magazine Excludes Lupita Nyong’o From Their “Most Influential” List Earlier this week, both breakout film star Lupita Nyong’o and superstar entertainer Beyonce were celebrated for landing atop People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful” list and TIME magazine’s “Most Influential People” list respectively, while snagging accompanying magazine covers to go along with their accolades. However, upon further inspection, it’s been revealed that while Lupita’s recent success has propelled her to the top of the entertainment and fashion industry for the larger part of 2013 and into 2014, it wasn’t enough to deem her “most influential,” according to TIME magazine. Since garnering rave reviews for her stellar performance in “12 Years A Slave,” Lupita has now become a household name and shinning success story to rival the best of them with an Academy Award , Golden Globe Award, Lancome Cosmetics endorsement, and countless recognition as a global fashion ambassador from all of the top designers under her belt all while flawlessly representing women of color who rarely receive the shine they deserve for their achievements in and outside of mainstream pop culture…but she still somehow hasn’t warranted the level of “influence” to land anywhere on the TIME magazine list. As she has only been on the mainstream radar for a little over a year now, perhaps this small time slot is what discouraged her placement on the list. But the impact that she has had on pop culture and American culture in general by single-handedly defying the standards of talent, beauty, and notoriety that much of mainstream America previously deemed necessary for the type of success she’s seen in the past year is undeniable…..and no doubt “influential” in more ways than a few. So, did TIME make a mistake in overlooking Lupita? Or has her level of “influence” simply been misconstrued? Let’s discuss.

Cry Me A River: Skeleton-Looking British Broad Quit Her Job Because She’s “Too Pretty” To Work Without Male Harrassment And Female Haters

GTFOHWTBS ! British Woman Says She Had To Quit Her Job Because She Is Too Pretty Via DailyMail Beauty is usually seen as a blessing. But for some, it would seem, it can be a curse. Laura Fernee says her good looks are so powerful they are ruining her life – and have forced her to quit her job. The 33-year-old science graduate says her slim figure and pretty face attracted unwanted attention from her male colleagues. She said her appearance meant she was constantly harassed and bullied, and has decided work ‘just isn’t for her’. Yesterday, she said: ‘I’m not lazy and I’m no bimbo. The truth is my good looks have caused massive problems for me when it comes to employment, so I’ve made the decision that employment just isn’t for me at the moment. It’s not my fault … I can’t help the way I look. Awww, how sad…smh ‘Male colleagues were only interested in me for how I looked. I wanted them to recognise my achievements and my professionalism but all they saw was my face and body.’ She said men left ‘romantic gifts’ on her desk and she was ‘constantly asked out’, which she found ‘sleazy’. ‘Even when I was in a laboratory in scrubs with no make-up they still came on to me because of my natural attractiveness. There was nothing I could do to stop it,’ she added. Note to women, men know what’s going on underneath those clothes. You can’t fool them. Miss Fernee studied science and medical research to doctorate level and began working in a laboratory in 2008. But she said she was forced to quit three years later because of the treatment she received. She said: ‘They [other women] assumed because I was pretty, I was stupid, so didn’t take me seriously at first and, because of their own insecurities, were jealous of my looks. ‘Then when they realised I was very good at my job, possibly better than them, they hated me even more.’ Yes, because you’re so ravishing and beautiful… Lucky for Laura, she has filthy rich parents who can pay her ridiculous bills. Miss Fernee’s parents – Catherine, 65, and Alan, 70 – inherited money from Laura’s grandfather, and now pay £2,000 a month in rent and bills for her flat in Notting Hill, London, as well as picking up her credit card payments. They also shell out £1,500 a month for her designer clothes, shoes and handbags, and £700 on haircuts. Miss Fernee pays £80 a week to work out at the gym and spends £1,000 a month on socialising. Laura’s parents need to buy her a damn seat so she can sit her skinny a$$ down somehwere. Image via Elmear O’Hagan Continue reading

Carl Pistorius, Brother of Oscar, Charged With Murder

Carl Pistorius, the brother of Oscar Pistorius, is ALSO charged with murder. Oscar’s older sibling faces 15 years in prison after allegedly killing a female biker in a fatal car crash; he’s been charged with culpable homicide. ENCA news, a South African TV channel, says the crash took place in 2010 and prosecutors say Pistorius’ reckless driving led to the death a motorcyclist. Carl’s lawyer recently told the station that Carl ” deeply regrets the accident ,” but was adamant his client was not drunk at the the time of the collision. “There is no doubt that [he] is innocent and the charge will be challenged in court,” the lawyer said, echoing the sentiments of Oscar Pistorius’ attorney. Carl’s trial was set to begin last Thursday – the same day Oscar was freed on bail after an explosive week of testimony – but it was postponed until next month. Oscar’s trial likely will not be for a couple of months. Even more incredibly, the lead detective in Oscar’s case, Hilton Botha , is also charged with murder. A South African Olympic sprinter who won global acclaim for his achievements as a double amputee, Oscar Pistorius is charged with murdering Reeva Steenkamp . He claims that he shot her by accident, believing she was an intruder; prosecutors allege he knew exactly what he was doing and that it was premeditated.

David Petraeus: Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating Person of 2012!

Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2012 special aired last night, and the #1 most fascinating of the electic mix of individuals was revealed at last: David Petraeus! The special highlighted the achievements and antics of those that kept us enthralled for the past 12 months, from Ben Affleck to Gabby Douglas to Honey Boo Boo . But it was Petraeus, the decorated U.S. military hero now disgraced by an affair that forced his resignation as director of the CIA, who took the top prize. “He is, without question, one of the finest officers and minds of his generation,” said Walters. “Then shockingly, he resigned as head of the CIA because he’d had an extramarital affair with Paula Broadwell, his biographer. … The story was irresistible.” “The keeper of the nation’s secrets, unable to conceal his own.” Yes … the story of a man attracted to a younger woman who was taken with him is so unique. Paula Broadwell , of course, was revealed as Petraeus mistress after apparently emailing Jill Kelley, another woman he knew socially, and telling her to step off. Petraeus has been married to his wife, Holly, for 37 years. On the entertainment side, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane received a spot, along with British boy band One Direction and 50 Shades of Grey author E L James. Political nods went to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. What do you think of David Petraeus as the year’s most fascinating person?   Yes, that story was the craziest! No, are you kidding me? View Poll »

Between takes of ‘Moment 4 Life’ video, Barbie says By Hillary Crosley Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News 2010 has been a banner year for MTV News’ #5 Woman of the Year , Nicki Minaj . In addition to performing with Lil Wayne on Minaj is celebrating the holidays by filming a video for “Moment 4 Life.” The clip features her Young Money labelmate Drake. Between takes Monday, the Queens native talked about those who haven’t been so giddy about her success. “I hate to say it, but a lot of people harbor just a lot of just hate, envy,” she said. “It almost feels like, because I’m where I am, they’re where they are. I didn’t do this to you; I didn’t do this to your career. I’m responsible for Nicki; you’re responsible for you.” While Minaj didn’t mention Lil’ Kim by name, the Queen Bee talked about her rift with Barbie on Friday when she stopped by . Kim said she looked at Minaj’s success as “a way for me to kind of come back in” but ultimately got “played.” Minaj said: “When you see someone else being successful and your first instinct is to tear them apart, that’s just a sign of you feeling unhappy with your achievements. But what I try to explain to people is: Whenever you feel like that — and we all feel like that sometimes, like ‘Ah, somebody’s doing it. Somebody’s popping a lot’ — use that as fuel to go hard. That’s what I did.” “I was like, ‘You know what? This one is doing their thing; this one is doing that; why can’t I do it?’ ” she continued. “But see, I looked at people like [Lil] Wayne. I would go to the studio, and I would observe Wayne, and I would literally pray. I would say ‘God, give me his work ethic.’ You have to ask for what you want. You have to identify what it is you need to get where you need to go and then speak that. You have to say it.” She also hinted that changing one’s life direction is more than just words. “If that’s what you want is a great work ethic, then you have to program that into your life,” she said. “But looking at somebody with a great work ethic and hating them is not going to help you.” What do you think about Nicki Minaj’s comments? Song’s lyrics describe downside of fame, with vocals by Christina Aguilera. By Jayson Rodriguez T.I. Photo: Brad Barket/Getty Images T.I. has achieved an extraordinary amount of success in his career, including Billboard chart toppers and hit movies . He’s also suffered several setbacks, like his current predicament of being an inmate in federal prison. The mix of highs and lows is nothing new to the talented but troubled MC. In a new track that surfaced online on Monday (November 29) called “Castle Walls” and featuring Christina Aguilera , the rapper reveals that despite his achievements, there’s an undercurrent of darkness shadowing his life. “See with the Phantoms and Ferraris in the driveway/ But you see it came in exchange of a sane man’s sanity,” he raps over the Alex da Kid-produced number. “Your vision jaded by the Grammys on the mantle piece/ Just switch your camera lenses, you will see the agony.” Aguilera provides a moving chorus to the track as she sings, “If I should tumble, if I should fall/ Would anyone hear me, screaming behind these castle walls.” Earlier this month, Alex da Kid (Eminem, B.o.B) told MTV News the track would be T.I.’s next single . “I love it,” he said of the number. “I think it’s amazing. It’s my sound, just kind of an evolution of that. I think it’ll cater to a lot of different people.” The track will be featured on T.I.’s forthcoming album No Mercy , set to arrive December 7. VIDEO Pete Seeger & Mark Ruffalo Protest Oil & Gas Industry

Folk music icon Pete Seeger and actor Mark Ruffalo joined elected officials and environmental advocates in Albany, NY on Tuesday to warn that a new method of gas extraction is destructive, unpredictable, and a threat to public health. Ruffalo, a Sullivan County resident who recently appeared in the film The Kids Are Alright, held up a jar of water from a Pennsylvania town where the method of hydraulic fracturing (or hydro-fracking, for short) has contaminated the water supply. He warned that New Yorkers could suffer the same fate unless the state legislature takes action in the coming days. Seeger, a longtime environmental activist, composed a song about fracking for the event highlighting the similarities between natural gas extraction and oil drilling: “And when 'drill baby drill' turns to 'spill baby spill,' God’s counting on me – God's counting on you.” Hydro-fracking is a dirty, dangerous method of extracting gas from underground rock by drilling a well in the rock and then pumping thousands of gallons of a toxic soup of chemicals into the rock to create fissures that release the gas trapped inside. Many companies are seeking to ramp up gas production by starting hydro-fracking operations in NY state this year. Hydro-fracking has contaminated water across the country from Pennsylvania to Colorado and its effects are the subject of the new documentary GASLAND. NY's Dept of Environmental Conservation holds the authority to grant permits to oil and gas companies. The Dept has stated that it plans to allow hydro-fracking to begin despite pressure from a massive grassroots campaign has been waged across the state to “kill the drill.” One grassroots organization that has decided to fight the oil and gas industry on hydro-fracking on the national level is Frack Action. www.FrackAction.org added by: captainplanet71
