Taylor Swift Returns! See Her First TV Performance in 3 Years!

In a powerful and candid Instagram post this week,  Taylor Swift urged citizens to take action next month and vote in the midterm elections. Not long afterwards, the singer took an action herself that she had not taken in three years: She performed on stage at an awards show. Indeed, Swift opened the 2018 American Music Awards on Tuesday night with a rendition of “I Did Something Bad,” reminding viewers everywhere that she deserves the honor she would later win at the ceremony. (Swift was named Artist of the Year and, in the process, became the most decorated female artist in American Music Awards history.) The 28-year-old pop sensation donned a sparkly long-sleeve leotard with over-the-knee leather black boots for her wildly-anticipated performance. She also brought the drama with smoke and a giant snake (!!!!!!!) – which has been her Reputation tour logo and which has been a response to being called a snake years ago by Kim Kardashian – behind her on stage. It was clear those in attendance were psyched to have Swift back in their lives. “They’re burning all the witches, even if you aren’t one/They got their pitchforks and proof,” Swift sings in the featured track. Having received some criticism from Republicans for not supporting any of their candidates in her aforementioned social media message, Swift did not back down at the AMAs. In her Artist of the Year acceptance speech, she didn't take any side… but she did remain political. “Thank you so much for this,” she said on stage, adding: “And I just wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award, and every single award given out tonight, were voted on by the people. And you know what else is voted on by the people? “The midterm elections on 6 November. Get out and vote – I love you guys.” And we love you, Taylor. We hope this was not a temporary return to the spotlight. Check out her performance now!

Black History: Census FINALLY Decides To Stop Using The Word Negro

It’s about dayum time! The folks at the census bureau have finally realized nobody is using the term Negro anymore — especially if they’re Black or African-American. Via NY Daily News reports : After more than a century, the Census Bureau is dropping its use of the word “Negro” to describe black Americans in surveys. Instead of the term that came into use during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation, census forms will use the more modern labels “black” or “African-American”. The change will take effect next year when the Census Bureau distributes its annual American Community Survey to more than 3.5 million U.S. households, Nicholas Jones, chief of the bureau’s racial statistics branch, said in an interview. He pointed to months of public feedback and census research that concluded few black Americans still identify with being Negro and many view the term as “offensive and outdated.” “This is a reflection of changing times, changing vocabularies and changing understandings of what race means in this country,” said Matthew Snipp, a sociology professor at Stanford University, who writes frequently on race and ethnicity. “For younger African-Americans, the term ‘Negro’ harkens back to the era when African-Americans were second-class citizens in this country.” First used in the census in 1900, “Negro” became the most common way of referring to black Americans through most of the early 20th century, during a time of racial inequality and segregation. “Negro” itself had taken the place of “colored.” Starting with the 1960s civil rights movement, black activists began to reject the “Negro” label and came to identify themselves as black or African-American. For the 2010 census, the government briefly considered dropping the word “Negro” but ultimately decided against it, determining that a small segment, mostly older blacks living in the South, still identified with the term. But once census forms were mailed and some black groups protested, Robert Groves, the Census Bureau’s director at the time, apologized and predicted the term would be dropped in future censuses. When asked to mark their race, Americans are currently given a choice of five government-defined categories in census surveys, including one checkbox selection which is described as “black, African Am., or Negro.” Beginning with the surveys next year, that selection will simply say “black” or “African American.” In the 2000 census, about 50,000 people specifically wrote in the word Negro when asked how they wished to be identified. By 2010, unpublished census data provided to the AP show that number had declined to roughly 36,000. We say Hallelujah! We’s free of that old Jim Crow terminology. How many bets somebody is gonna call Permed Up Al over this to protest? LOL.

Casey James’ High School Teacher Remembers His ‘Quiet Confidence’

‘He’s so relaxed when he’s performing, and people pick up on that,’ says ‘American Idol’ contestant’s former English teacher. By James Montgomery Before he became the most unlikely of “American Idol” finalists, Casey James was just another student at Millsap High School, a tiny cluster of buildings located some 30 miles west of Fort Worth, Texas. He was, by all accounts, a quiet, well-mannered kid who played on the school’s tennis team, excelled in the theater program and absolutely, positively loved music. A decade later, James is still the same silent, polite guy with the winning smile. The only difference these days is that he may very well end up being crowned “Idol” champion. Which, for those who knew him back in his Millsap days, wouldn’t be all that shocking. The Casey James they remember was certainly a nice guy, but he was also fiercely independent and determined to succeed in the music industry his way. “He was a good student, very polite and kind,” Millsap High English teacher Beth Adkins said. “The thing I remember most about him is that, in high school, you always have your cliques, but it was very important to him to be himself … he got along with everybody else, but he never fit into one clique. He was not a jock, even though played tennis … he was mostly interested in his music.” Adkins not only taught James, she lived in the same tiny town he grew up in: Cool, Texas, a hamlet of less that 200 that, as Adkins puts it, “is just a blinking caution light” off U.S. Route 180. And, not surprisingly, she knew of James’ talents long before he became a student at Millsap. “It’s a very small town, so I always knew he was interested in music,” he said. “I remember that he had a band, and he would play for all the different nursing homes with his mother and his brother. There was nowhere else really for them to play. The nearest places would probably be Fort Worth, or maybe Mineral Wells.” And though it’s been a decade since James sat in Adkins’ classroom (“People keep asking me for stories about him, but, to be honest, I can’t remember any!” she laughed), she can still see traces of her former student in the studly, scruffy man he’s become. Though she’s more of a Michael Bubl

Jay Sean Would ‘Love To Work With Rihanna’ On Next Album

‘Down’ singer is more than halfway done with the project, set to include Lil Wayne, Pitbull and more. By Akshay Bhansali, with reporting by Tim Kash Jay Sean Photo: Nuzhat Naoreen/ MTV News Sorry, Jay Sean fans. If you were expecting a new song to follow his first two Stateside singles “Down” and “Do You Remember,” you’ll be disappointed. While many a message board (and Sean himself, at one point) touted the ballad “War” as his third single, the pop/R&B singer has, in fact, moved on — not on to another gem from his U.S. debut, All or Nothing, but a brand-spankin’-new album. “We are basically straight on to the next one,” Sean told MTV News when we caught up with him at the New York studio of the Orange Factory, the production outfit behind the majority of All. “I was already halfway through the album by the time ‘Do You Remember’ was hitting radio. We listened to it, and we were like, ‘You know what? I want to hit them with something fresh right now, not something that is off [this] album. Let’s go now, while we are ahead of the game, while we are ahead of the curve.’ ” Last September, Jay Sean became the most successful male U.K. urban artist in U.S. chart history, with “Down” topping the Billboard Hot 100 . The singer is now well on his way to releasing a new album. “I’d say we are three-quarters done,” Sean said. “The majority of the album is [produced] by the Orange Factory, the same people who did ‘Down’ and ‘Do You Remember.’ I think this album is a little more grown and sexy. Not saying that I’ve grown older and sexier, but for me, this album is a natural progression. And that’s where I wanted to go and where it felt right. After dropping two singles, boasting the likes of Lil Wayne , Sean Paul and Lil Jon, the artist from Hounslow, England, already has a few more exciting partnerships in the can for this next project — and another he’s hoping will come to fruition. And Sean recently made his own guest feature on Mary J. Blige’s emotional “Each Tear.” “She’s actually gonna be on my album as well,” Sean said of Blige. “You’re gonna see Pitbull on the album. Wayne, of course. We are gonna get some of the Young Money characters involved. But really, I’d love to work with Rihanna. So I’m gonna see if I can come up with the right song for that.” Who would you like to see featured on Jay Sean’s next album? Tell us in the comments! Nicole Richie is Wearing Lingerie Cuz She’s Ugly of the Day

Like Lionel Richie, I have a serious hatred for Nicole Richie. She is an ugly troll that I may not have dragged away from her groupie drug addict mother in trying to do a good deed, only to realize that saving this girl from a horrible drug filled, dick sucking to get by while running after rockstars in efforts to get knocked up and paid off like her biological mother life, she became the most disgusting thing money can create. From a rude, selfish, spoiled brat cunt who doesn’t realize she’s fucking ugly because she’s got so much of an ego it blinds her from reality. She is nothing but a piece of shit from the fucking gutter, who somehow scammed her way into the good life and I think it’s safe to say that her joke of a clothing line or her looks got her there, it’s all Lionel’s fault….motherfucker. The only sadness in this story is that she didn’t kill herself like all the other adopted kids I know…she just made her ex-boyfriend and her Godfather kill themselves cuz she doesn’t just look like the devil, she is the fuckin’ devil. Here she is in some lingerie, showing off her useless tits, promoting her serious junk….. Pics via Fame
