‘X Factor’ Will Be A Reality Show ‘On Steroids’

Creative director of Simon Cowell’s upcoming competition series tells MTV News it will be ‘like the VMAs every week.’ By Jocelyn Vena Brian Friedman Photo: MTV News Fans have been wondering for months now what to expect when Simon Cowell’s Stateside interpretation of “The X Factor” starts up on September 21. According to the Fox show’s creative director, Brian Friedman, it’s going to be … big. “Basically ‘The X Factor’ in the U.S. is every reality show you’ve [ever] seen on steroids,” he told MTV News when we caught up with him on the 2011 VMA black carpet. “It is like the VMAs every week.” Friedman — a veteran choreographer who has worked with a number of pop stars, most notably Britney Spears — has a history with “The X Factor” franchise. He not only hosted the British version for some time, but he also served as its creative director. The Fox show will step up its game week after week to ensure that it’s all about going big or going home, Friedman promised. “The performances that we do on there are boundless; there are no boundaries,” he continued. “We don’t stand inside a box. There is no right or wrong. Every rule you could possibly break in TV, [we do]. So expect to be wowed every week.” Friedman joins host Steve Jones , as well as the judges: Cowell and his former “American Idol” co-star Paula Abdul , record executive L.A. Reid and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger “American Idol” has always had scratch-your-head-type contestants, and earlier this year Cowell confessed that he hoped to keep that spirit alive on his new show. “I love unusual people. I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,” Cowell laughed. “I like that we’re going to be very open-minded. I think we’re going to have good enough people on this panel that we’re not gonna miss out on anyone who’s got potential.” Will you be watching “The X Factor” when it premieres this month? Britney Spears ‘Can’t Be Knocked Down’

Celebrity fans including former ‘NSYNC singer JC Chasez, tourmate DJ Pauly D and more weigh in on why Brit is still on top. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears with Lady Gaga as Jo Calderone at the 2011 VMAs Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images At the 2011 Video Music Awards , Lady Gaga’s alter ego Jo Calderone presented Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award by telling the audience that Spears “taught us all how to be fearless.” And that fearlessness was honored with a dance-heavy tribute to the pop star. Brit’s ever-growing legacy is the reason why she was so deserving of the special award, her celebrity fans and members of her inner circle told MTV News. “She never lets you down,” her longtime choreographer Brian Friedman told MTV News on the VMA black carpet on Sunday night. “She’s definitely not dull. There’s always something crazy coming around the next turn. I think it’s a mix between music, which is always incredible, the dance performance you see on the stage, the iconic videos, the fashion, and then the fact that she can’t be knocked down.” We spotted Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and more hanging out backstage! Those sentiments were mirrored by her pal and former ‘NSYNC member JC Chasez, who noted that even at 30, “She’s actually been around long enough [to have a tribute]. She has a body of work to pull from.” Spears’ former tourmate, DJ Pauly D , also gushed about the singer, who won Best Pop Video for “Till The World Ends.” Find out how Beyonc

Britney Spears Battles Herself In New ‘Hold It Against Me’ Teaser

Fans will get two Britneys for the price of one in ‘HIAM’ video, which premieres on MTV next Thursday. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears in her eighth “Hold It Against Me” teaser Photo: Jive It looks like Britney Spears is in a throwdown with herself in the video for “Hold It Against Me.” In the latest, very brief teaser for the video, one Britney knocks down a second Britney (or Britney look-alike) with a blow to the face. The teaser opens with a shot of two sets of feet, perfectly accessorized in high platform shoes. The camera pans up to show that one blond woman, dressed in a flowing gown, is punching another blond woman, also in a flowing gown, sending her flying through the air and onto the ground in slow motion. The two versions of Britney appear to be in some sort of battle for Britney supremacy. With less than a week until the actual premiere of the video, fans have been given bits and pieces of the puzzle that is the Jonas

Britney Spears Drops ‘Hold It Against Me’ Video Preview

’14 days, 14 teasers, 1 World Premiere of #HIAM,’ Brit promises in a tweet implying clip will debut in two weeks. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears in the “Hold it Against Me” teaser Photo: Jive For fans counting down the days until Britney Spears debuts her “Hold It Against Me” video , the pop star premiered an otherworldly clip on Friday (February 4) that gives them a taste of what to expect. In the teaser , Brit also reveals that the video is set to drop on or about February 18 with a panel that reads “13 days to go.” “Hold It Against Me” is the lead single from her March release, Femme Fatale. On Friday, Spears about the video, “14 days, 14 teasers, 1 World Premiere of #HIAM –Britney.” She then included a link to the (very short) five-second mini tease of the Jonas Akerlund-directed video. Judging from those few seconds, though, the director seems to be bringing Britney into his dark world. Dressed in a flowing white gown, the singer appears surrounded by TV screens as a light and camera are pointed at her face. The preview ends with the message “Britney Spears … 13 days to go.” Brian Friedman, who choreographed the video, recently told MTV News that this one pushes all boundaries. “Artistically, this video I think surpasses a lot of her other videos,” he teased. “So many of her videos are iconic, though. You look at ‘Toxic’ and you look at ‘Slave,’ even ‘Oops … I Did It Again’: People are gonna remember those videos forever. [In] ‘… Baby One More Time,’ she made school-girl outfits relevant and so popular. This video is artistically a masterpiece, and I don’t think that Britney has pushed the envelope in this way ever in any of her videos.” Friedman credited Akerlund’s keen eye for unexpected visuals and epic scale. “Anything that he does is magical,” he said. “His eye for art is insane, so I was excited to work with someone who loves art so much and it’s not just a job, it’s not technical; it really is a string aesthetic to what he does.” The teaser video dropped a day after Spears and her camp thanked fans for helping to keep the album title a trending topic on Twitter. “Just heard FEMME FATALE has been trending for almost 2 days. I LIVE for and LOVE you all!” she wrote . “Thank U! Thank U! Thank U!” What do you think of the “HIAM” teaser? Tell us in the comments!
