Travie McCoy Joins Rihanna, Ke$ha On Last Girl Tour

Gym Class Heroes frontman hits the road with the ladies for tour kicking off July 2. By Mawuse Ziegbe Travie McCoy Gym Class Heroes’ Travie McCoy will hit the road with pop princesses Rihanna and Ke$ha on this summer’s Last Girl on Earth Tour , which kicks off on July 2 in Auburn, Washington. The tour will crisscross the U.S. and Canada and wrap up on August 28 in Syracuse, New York. McCoy’s addition to the lineup comes after the tour was originally announced in April as a girl-power outing, with Young Money’s Nicki Minaj as one of the openers. Minaj later dropped out of the tour , saying she was going to focus on wrapping up her debut instead. “Barbz I’m sorry 2 say I will not be going out on RiRi’s tour. I’ve decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album. Hope u understand,” the star tweeted just days after the tour was announced. McCoy will rock stages this summer in support of his solo debut, Lazarus, which features the single “Billionaire” with Bruno Mars . The hip-rock star — who goes by Travie instead of Travis for his solo work — premiered the video for his new single “The Manual” featuring T-Pain and Young Cash online on Friday. Travie recently told MTV’s Buzzworthy that the solo effort is just one of the many side projects he tinkers with while still being a part of the Gym Class Heroes. “Since the beginning of Gym Class Heroes, we’ve all kind of had side projects,” he said. “This is just an extension of that.” Last Girl on Earth tour dates with Rihanna and Ke$ha according to McCoy’s label:

Travie McCoy Recalls His ‘Hot Mess’ Days On ‘When I Was 17’

‘In my brain, I was sexy,’ Gym Class Heroes frontman laughs on the show, airing Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. By James Montgomery Travie McCoy Photo: MTV News When he was 17 years old, Travie McCoy wasn’t the long, lean sex machine most know him as today. Quite the opposite, in fact. “Travie McCoy at 17 [was] crafty, artistic, but not sexy at all,” McCoy laughed. “But in my brain, I was sexy.” But pretty much only in his brain. As an oddly proportioned kid growing up in Geneva, New York, McCoy was a gangly mix of dreads, tats, piercings and, of course, more than a little baby fat. It’s the kind of thing he and his Gym Class Heroes mates can look back and laugh at now, but at the time, the situation was downright dire, as you can learn on the next episode of “When I Was 17,” airing Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. “When Trav was 17 — I don’t know if he’d want me to tell you guys, but he looked like a hot mess,” laughed Gym Class drummer Matt McGinley, who met McCoy in high school and soon formed the group with him. “Trav kinda was big, tall, was a little pudgier than most kids. He was a pretty gnarly-looking kid at 17.” Of course, as we all know, McCoy overcame his awkward phase and has since gone on to become an emo/hip-hop heartthrob of the highest order — the guy who, at one point, had Katy Perry on his arm . And with his first-ever solo album, Lazarus, due next month, his sex-symbol status can only get bigger. So perhaps it’s a good thing to look back on his old high school photos and laugh a bit. “When Travis was 17, he had no game,” his friend Chelsey laughed. “[He was] very tattooed, dreads, piercing.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring McCoy, Kris Allen and Kourtney Kardashian — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. Travis McCoy Says Gym Class Heroes Are Getting Back To Basics

‘We’ve already started demo-ing for the new Gym Class record, PCC II, ‘ frontman tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Harper Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy Photo: MTV News In the grand scheme of things, one year isn’t all that long, but in industry terms, it’s an eternity. That’s how long it’s been since Gym Class Heroes released The Quilt (actually, it’s been like 15 months, but, hey, who’s counting?), an album that was supposed to carry them to the next level but, thanks to an increased focus on hip-hop , confounded most GCH fans, and quickly disappeared from the charts.
