It’s a new year and a new status for Michael Phelps: the most decorated Olympian in history is now single. According to TMZ, Phelps recently ended his relationship with Megan Rossee because he wanted to “pursue other options.” And how is the model taking this news? Not especially well. On Monday, Rossee Tweeted a photo of the following saying: “A woman’s loyalty is tested when her man has nothing. A man’s loyalty is tested when he has everything.” She then posted a photo of her New Year’s Eve celebration and included with it the caption: “The love of my life is the love between friends. Happy New Year! #truelove #bffs.” Phelps, meanwhile, seems to be taking everything in stride. It helps when you: Possesses an 8-pack. Have won 22 Olympic medals. Just played beer pong with Stacy Keibler.
Sad news today out of the world of professional basketball. Authorities have confirmed the death of Scott Sterling, the 32-year old son of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. Details are still coming in, but detectives arrived at Scott’s Malibu home around 11:30 last night and reportedly discovered Scott’s body; it is believed he died of a drug overdose. Donald Sterling purchased the Clippers in 1981. The team has enjoyed little success ever since, but it currently owns the best record in the NBA and became just the third squad in league history to complete an undefeated month in December. Our thoughts go out to the Sterling family.
New information has come in regarding the death of a paparazzi member who was trailing Justin Bieber’s car in Los Angeles last night. TMZ has identified the celebrity gossip reporter as Chris Guerra . Guerra was reportedly trailing Bieber throughout New Year’s Day, phoning someone associated with his photo agency around 5:30 p.m. and telling him Bieber’s car had just pulled into the Beverly Hills Four Seasons. Guerra then told his colleague that Bieber’s Ferrari was pulling away and he had to follow it. As we now know, Bieber was not actually in the vehicle when Guerra later spotted in getting pulled over by highway patrol. He was asked to move back by a police officer and was struck dead by an oncoming vehicle. Guerra was in his late 20s; had been working in a Las Vegas casino until moving to Los Angeles last spring; and was unmarried without any children. For the past few months, he had been assigned exclusively to the Justin Bieber beat.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remained hospitalized Wednesday for treatment of a blood clot in her head, as daughter Chelsea tweeted from her bedside. After being photographed looking visibly distraught outside the hospital, Chelsea wrote that she was grateful to be starting the new year with her family. “Wishing all a healthy & happy 2013,” Chelsea, 32, wrote. “Grateful to be starting the new year with my family.” Former President Bill Clinton has been spotted driving to and from his wife’s side at New York-Presbyterian Hospital for much of the past 48 hours. Hillary is being treated with blood thinners to help dissolve the clot, which is located in a vein behind her right ear that helps carry blood away from the brain. In a statement yesterday, doctors assured it was not a life-threatening condition and assured that Clinton had suffered no brain damage or stroke. “In all aspects of her recovery, the Secretary is making excellent progress and we are confident she will make a full recovery,” Drs. Lisa Bardack and Gigi El-Bayoumi said. A clot occurs when a blockage builds up, either from partial thrombus (coagulated blood) or an outside compression. When the vein becomes blocked, the coagulated blood may extend to veins draining the area, which could lead to a lack of oxygen and tissue death. For Clinton, ‘the particular vein they’re talking about, there are enough other areas for the blood to travel through so it doesn’t build up in the brain,’ Dr Sanjay Gupta said on CNN. The condition can be treated with blood thinners administered over several months until the clot breaks down. Doctors are keeping her under their watchful eye as they adjust the dose of her anti-clotting medication. Chelsea, who was spotted leaving the hospital Monday by the New York Daily News, was the first member of the Clinton family to be seen publicly at the hospital. Chelsea, 32, a special correspondent for NBC News, looked upset as she left the hospital – cell phone in hand. She ignored questions from a reporter and went back inside. Aides and doctors say Clinton contracted a stomach virus in early December and became dehydrated, then fainted, fell and hit her head on December 9. She was diagnosed with a concussion on December 13 and hasn’t been seen in public since.
Michael Lohan is battling health problems as well as legal ones. The father of Lindsay and Ali Lohan collapsed during an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting on Tuesday and was taken to the hospital, according to reports. “Michael started to feel light headed during his meeting so he walked outside, and that’s when he collapsed,” a source close to MiLo told Radar Online . The diagnosis came soon after: “He was taken in an ambulance to Palm Beach Gardens Hospital where doctors found another blood clot in his lung.” Michael was given medication to break down the clot and the 51-year-old was given CAT scans and an MRI to make sure the clot hadn’t spread to his brain. Since Michael’s hilarious arrest when he violated a restraining order and tried to flee police out of a window, he’s split time between rehab and the hospital. The ex-boyfriend of Kate Major had surgery to unclog his artery and repair blockage in his heart in early December, only to suffer from a staph infection. He remains in the hospital now awaiting the results of a round of tests. Whenever he’s released, MiLo will be sent back to rehab, again.
