X Men: Days of Future Past just hit theaters last night, but the film is already enjoying mega-box-office and is expected to turn in opening-weekend totals that will dwarf the receipts of its predecessor, X Men: First Class . The film pulled in over $8 million on Thursday night alone and Marvel Studios is said to have set a goal of $100 million for this weekend. High hopes, indeed, but certainly within reach, as Memorial Day typically provides one of the biggest box office weekends of the year. Despite the impressive one-day total, X Men: First Class has fallen shy of the Thursday night numbers reported by other recent big-budget releases such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier . Such huge numbers across the board have industry analysts predicting one of the most profitable summers that movie studios have seen in recent years. Just last week, Godzilla ‘s box office was reported at a staggering $93.2 million for its opening weekend alone. Strong reviews for X Men Days of Future Past are expected to carry the film to impressive weekend totals. Penn Badgley and Zoe Kravitz’s romance is officially a thing of the past. The couple recently ended their two-year relationship, Us says. The Gossip Girl actor, 26, and the After Earth actress, 24, are “all good,” a source says of the exes. “It wasn’t a sad breakup.” So that’s good at least. The couple, who shared an apartment together in NYC, are focused on their careers for the time being. “It just wasn’t working,” the source reiterates. “It really did end on good terms, though.” “They are both at two different stages in their careers,” a source says of Penn and Zoe, despite their chemistry. “They just didn’t have time for each other.” Badgley previously dated his Gossip Girl costar Blake Lively from 2007 to 2010. Zoe was linked to her X-Men: First Class costar Michael Fassbender.
Director Bryan Singer has tweeted a new X-Men: Days of Future Past set photo. The pic features James McAvoy as Professor X , with a much scruffier look than First Class . Check it out: Days of Future Past takes place in both the original timeline and the prequel timeline from First Class . As such, cast members from both installments are joined in the new film. Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Omar Sy, and Peter Dinklage also star. Days of Future Past is set to premiere July 18, 2014.
Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult broke up, according to Us Weekly . The couple mutually ended their two-year relationship very recently. The Hunger Games actress, 22, and Skins actor, 23, met on the set of X-Men: First Class in 2010; they played one another’s love interests in the film. Lawrence, who was recently named Most Desirable Woman of 2012 , hasn’t given any indication the relationship was heading south in recent interviews. “He is honestly my best friend, and hopefully I’m his best friend, too,” the Silver Linings Playbook star told Elle magazine in its December cover story. “He’s my favorite person to be around and makes me laugh harder than anybody.” Fortunately for Jen, she’ll have ample distractions in the next few months as she tries to move on from the breakup – it’s awards season in Hollywood. She’s among the 2013 Oscar nominees , and may even win one for her acclaimed performance alongside Bradley Cooper in the aforementioned film.
