‘Aftershock’ Red-Band Trailer: A Body Count

The deaths keep coming in the red-band trailer for Eli Roth ‘s earthquake gorefest Aftershock . I count seven distinct deaths in this clip, which is just shy of two minutes, but with all the lootin’ and a stabbin’ going on in the background,  I’m  clearly being conservative. Roth gets to preside over his own frightfest, too. He’s front and center in this video as Gringo, a sensitive-sounding guy who just wants to meet a nice girl at an underground Chilean disco. Alas, as the old Nazareth song goes, ” Love Hurts .”  Here’s my tally of the grisly deaths (and one amputation) that take place in the trailer. I left out the very last scene because, no matter how bad things look, it’s no fait accompli. *Death by nightclub speaker *Death by cement pillar *Amputation by falling shelving unit *Death by immolation *Death by falling concrete slab *Death by Ax *Decapitation by  speeding truck Can anyone out there tell me whether that large crucifix that falls over in the movie has an actual human body nailed to it?  I’ve paused it a few times, and I think it’s just a life-size facsimile of Jesus, but I’m not entirely sure.  That would up the body count to eight. WATCH: ‘The Great Gatsby’ Trailer & Photos − There Will Be Brooding, Too

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the Baz Luhrmann ‘s trailer for The Great Gatsby  contained ample scenes of Leonardo DiCaprio , Tobey Maguire and Jason Clarke screaming . Now, after sifting through more than 50 photos from the movie that Warner Bros. has released into the blogosphere and watching an exclusive trailer that the UK’s Daily Mail has posted, I can also tell you that, amid all the Art Deco opulence and Roaring Twenties hedonism, there will be plenty of brooding, too. There must be a lot to think about.  Check out this romantic (and thoughtful!) trailer first then ponder the photos. One more thing: Conan O’Brien should have Joel Edgerton on his show and do a skit where they both play Tom Buchanan. WATCH: ‘Iron Man 3’ − A Closer Look At Shellhead’s Dramatic Air Rescue Sequence

My palms get sweaty just watching this extended clip of what I hear is one of the most riveting sequences in Iron Man 3 . Tony Stark  ( Robert Downey Jr .) has to suit up in a jiff and attempt to save 13 flailing, screaming people who’ve been sucked out of what looks like a crippled Air Force One . (If that’s the case, it will be the first of two times the Presidential airliner gets blowed up this summer season.  The trailer for Roland Emmerich ‘s White House Down shows the plane’s wing being blown off.  But I digress. Although those two unlucky souls who hit the plane’s fuselage on the way out should probably be dead as a result of the impact, Shellhead’s valiant attempt to rescue everyone when Jarvis is telling him he can only handle four sure does make for some effective dramatic tension. How his first save, Heather , can hear Stark above her own (justified) screaming and the wind is beyond me, but I’m suspending disbelief.   The “I’ll electrify your arm and you won’t be able to open your hand” is a nice expository touch, too.  Check it out: We can do this, Heather! ‘Silver Linings Playbook’: Alternate Ending Includes Jacki Weaver’s Braciole Recipe

An eight-minute alternate ending to David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook   has landed on the Internets, and though it wraps up things a little too neatly (with virtually all of the main characters), it’s fun to watch.  It also yields a quick-and-dirty recipe for braciole , those seasoned skirt-steak roll-ups that Jacki Weaver always seems to be making in the movie.   My Sicilian grandmother taught me to secure the steak around a hard-boiled egg before letting it slow-cook in the pasta sauce, but the recipe Weaver employs in this clip is much simpler. (And yet, Chris Tucker just can’t seem to get the hang of it.) In this MTV exclusive, Robert De Niro also reveals a key rule of etiquette that often applies in Italian-American homes from that generation:  the man of the house can sample the food his wife is preparing for dinner, but, hey-yo, everyone else has to wait. WATCH: More Proof That Joseph Gordon-Levitt Would Be Great In ‘Guys And Dolls’

I’m not as jazzed as everyone else seems to be about Deadline’s report that 20th Century Fox is developing a remake of Guys and Dolls.    It was a great movie, but unless it gets a serious update in the writing department, I think it’s too broad and antiquated to connect with contemporary audiences on a mass level. On the other hand, I totally agree that if the movie’s going to have a serious shot at making it,  Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are about the best casting choices the studio could make.  (I’m expecting to hear Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway’s names added to the mix any minute now, too. By now, you’ve been reminded of Tatum and Gordon-Levitt’s fleet-footed performance on the Oscars earlier this year, but here’s further proof that JGL is a serious song and dance man. Gordon-Levitt paid homage to Donald O’Connor’s great “Make’em Laugh” performance from the 1952 MGM musical Singin’ In The Rain  when he hosted Saturday Night Live in 2009.  Check him out below: Make ’em Gasp If you don’t think that was difficult, keep in mind O’Connor spent a week recuperating from carpet burns and plain old exhaustion after shooting the original and admittedly more strenuous version: Top This Top that, Tatum. WATCH: Tilda Swinton Shakes Her Moneymaker In Tribute To Roger Ebert

Now here’s a proper celebration of Roger Ebert’s life. Tilda Swinton , dressed like David Bowie and channeling Ellen DeGeneres rouses 1,500 people at Ebertfest in Champaign, IL to shake their money makers to Barry White’s “My First, My Last, My Everything” at the Virginia Theater on April 20.  (That’s Ebert’s widow Chaz introducing the actress.) The film festival, which is organized by the College of Media at the University of Illinois where Ebert was an alumnus paid tribute to its namesake, who succumbed to cancer on April 4. When he was alive, his prose danced just like Swinton. Ebertfest 2013 Dance Along from Ebertfest on Vimeo . [WATCH] Harrison Ford Will See That ‘Wookiee Sack of S#@!’ Chewbacca "In Hell!"

Harrison Ford may look grumpy as hell, but the man has a fine-tuned sense of humor. Once again, the 42 actor has some fun with his Star Wars wingWookiee Chewbacca on    Jimmy Kimmel Live .   I was hoping that this time Ford would be furious at Chewy for roping him into celebrating Life Day on the much-maligned Star Wars Holiday Special ,  but Kimmel’s writers stuck to the running joke that the Wookiee had an affair with Ford’s wife.  The costumed geeks having to ask non-Star Wars questions is a lovely touch, too.  Here’s the clip: Chewing Up Chewy And this is what happened the last time Ford appeared on the show.  The Cowboys & Aliens lines are particularly funny in retrospect given the movie’s dismal box-office performance. WATCH: Johnny Depp & Kate Moss Inspire He Met Her Music Video

Johnny Depp and Kate Moss have inspired a song. L.A. musical duo, He Met Her , has put out an EP called Love Heroes   that’s influenced by famous couples throughout history, and one of the tracks, “Toknight We Ride (Johnny & Kate)” , is a dreamy tribute to the Pirates of the Caribbean star and the super model, who had a tempestuous four-year affair in the 1990s. Although the former couple are only referenced in the title, the song’s hedonistic lyrics include the line, “I’m on my Peter Pan, lost boys in NVR LAND,” which, I hear is a reference to Depp’s role as Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie in the 2004 movie,  Lost in Neverland , though he was no longer with Moss at that point. You can hear the song and see the lyrics in this subtitled video, which stars He Met Her’s Mowgli Moon and Rocky Chance cavorting in Acapulco. WATCH: ‘The Lords of Salem’ Video − Rob Zombie Channels Rodgers & Hammerstein

I’m not sure what to expect from the The Lords of Salem after watching this clip.  Director Rob Zombie   appears to be having a Rodgers & Hammerstein moment as his wife, Sheri Moon Zombie , who plays a DJ, takes a very long walk in Day of the Dead make-up to meet one of the Lords in the title. Zombie’s movie is supposed to have some connection to the Salem witch trials via a mysterious recording that arrives at radio station where Mrs. Z works, but you’d be hard-pressed to know that from this clip, which is a Rolling Stone exclusive.
