Jean-Claude Van Damme Goes To War Against ‘The Expendables’

‘I kill one of them,’ the Belgian action icon told MTV News about his role as a bad guy in the upcoming ‘Expendables’ sequel. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz If “The Expendables” brought the pantheon of action-movie heroes together for one balls-to-the-wall R-rated epic, then the amounts of badassery that “The Expendables 2” promises to bring to the table is even further off the charts. Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger are upping their game from cameos to full-fledged co-stars this time around, with Chuck Norris roundhouse kicking his way into the fray as well. And then there’s Jean-Claude Van Damme, who won’t be just another mercenary following Sylvester Stallone’s lead, either. Quite the opposite, in fact: The Muscles from Brussels is going to be the movie’s villain. “I play Mr. Vilain,” the actor told MTV News during a recent interview. “And I kill one of [the Expendables].” Which Expendable will meet his maker at Vilain’s hands? Van Damme wouldn’t spill the beans. But he did explain why he wanted to go the villainous route for “Expendables 2” rather than join Stallone’s rag-tag group of good-guy mercenaries. “They asked me if I wanted to be an Expendable guy, and they said it’s going to be a big franchise. But I don’t want to be in ‘Expendables 20,’ ” he said. “I want to play a villain to make a good impression. When you play a villain, you get more from Stallone. He gives you more screen time, and then we’ll see what happens. I think him and I did a good job together.” It’s not just his dynamic with Stallone that Van Damme enjoyed, either. The Belgian actor got to work with a healthy portion of the action icons on the “Expendables” cast, folks he already knew from various encounters over the course of his storied career. “You have all those guys: Chuck Norris, Arnold, Bruce Willis, and there’s lots of testosterone,” he said of the vibe on set. “In ‘Expendables,’ you have all of those guys with their trailers and bodyguards. I knew them all. I knew Chuck when I came [to Hollywood] years ago, Arnold with ‘Last Action Hero.’ Bruce Willis, I met him once on Sunset [Boulevard] while driving and racing together. Since I’d met all of them … I was the guy going there in a very friendly way. It was cool. For me, it was cool.” Of course, even with all of those stars in the mix, it’s Van Damme versus Stallone that fans will want to look out for. With Stallone set as the series’ protagonist and Van Damme in the mix as the main baddie, it’s bound to get explosive when these two titans finally clash on the big screen. “It’s like [George] Foreman versus Muhammad Ali,” he grinned. Sesame Street Used to "Break" Prisoners at Guantanamo Bay?

Detainees at Guantanamo Bay subjected to Sesame Street music for days on end in efforts to break their will, according to an Al Jazeera documentary. In the film, called “Songs of War,” detainees at the U.S. Naval base have been forced to wear headphones blaring Sesame Street music on repeat. All in the name of messing with them so badly that they’ll talk. Al Jazeera World – Songs of War The award-winning Sesame Street composer Christopher Cerf (2:00 mark above) tells Al Jazeera, “My first reaction was ‘this just can’t possibly be true.'” “I didn’t care for the idea that I was helping break down prisoners, but it was much worse when I heard later that they were actually using the music in Guantanamo for long-term interrogations and obviously to inflict pain on prisoners so they would talk.” Wow. Elmo can get a little annoying after awhile, but really? Note to CIA operatives: LFO’s “Summer Girls” would work a lot better, or anything by that rumored hermaphrodite Lady Gaga . The extremists HATE her.

Amy Winehouse’s London Home For Sale

The family of Amy Winehouse is selling the home in London’s Camden neighborhood where the singer lived, struggled and ultimately died last summer. “It is with regret that we have to sell Amy’s house in Camden Square,” her father, Mitch, tweeted today. “It is empty and costing a fortune to secure it.” The property, where Amy lived until her death at home on July 23, 2011, has become a meeting ground for mourners and fans of the “Rehab” singer. “Amy and I both worked on the house and she loved it so much,” her father added. “I hope a lovely family buys it as it is so full of love. Mitch.” The three-bedroom house was originally earmarked as the headquarters for the Amy Winehouse Foundation, the charity set up by her parents. However, family spokesman Chris Goodman said in a statement that the family staying in the house now was neither practical nor appropriate. “It was not practical to keep it empty while paying the costs of its upkeep,” he said, adding that the family was leaving it “with great regret.” Amy’s former home – purchased for $2.79 a few years ago – is currently on the market with an asking price of approximately $4.2 million. What economic downturn? Maybe it has more cachet now … although you wonder if everything that happened within those walls is net positive.

John Edwards Verdict: Not Guilty on One of Six Counts, Mistrial Declared on Remaining Charges

John Edwards was found not guilty on one of six counts in his campaign finance fraud trial today, with the jury hopelessly deadlocked on the remaining charges. Judge Catherine Eagles declared a mistrial on the five counts for which the jury couldn’t reach a verdict . He can therefore be retried, but it’s unlikely he will be. Edwards, a two-time presidential candidate, was accused of soliciting nearly $1 million from donors to cover up his affair and love child with Rielle Hunter . He was found unanimously not guilty on Count 3 of the six-part indictment. That count pertained only to whether Edwards illegally received hundreds of thousands of dollars from heiress Rachel “Bunny” Mellon to cover up the affair. Just hours ago, the foreman announced that the jury was deadlocked on five of the six counts, but Eagles ordered them to go back to deliberating. The jury came back less than an hour later and declared itself hung, or deadlocked with no possibility of changing that fact, on the five counts. Following the verdict, the two-time presidential hopeful hugged attorney Abbe Lowell, his daughter Cate Edwards , 30, and his two elderly parents. The jury began deliberating May 18 in the case, which took on an air of a steamy soap opera as much as a debate over intricacies of campaign finance law. The government spent three weeks building its thin case, much of it tethered to the testimony of Andrew Young, once Edwards’ most loyal aide. Edwards’ defense – that he lied to keep the affair a secret from his terminally ill wife, not to advance his career – was tough to disprove, however. He’s a miserable human being, but that doesn’t mean he acted illegally.

Jury: Casey Anthony Behavior, Partying "Heinous" and "Disgusting" … But Not Evidence

Jurors in the Casey Anthony case were “disgusted” by her behavior, and “sick” over the decision to find her not guilty, but still felt they did the right thing. The foreman said that her shady behavior and evidence of whether or not she murdered Caylee are two different things, and the former didn’t matter. “We were asked … to convict on cause of death,” the foreman, juror No. 11, said on Fox News. “That’s something that, although it is disgusting, it is heinous, we weren’t really able to take into consideration with the verdict.” The jury foreman, who asked that his name not be used due to possible death threats , said the jury deliberated by considering the physical evidence. One Casey Anthony video deemed too inflammatory was not included. Ultimately, despite the duct tape found on Caylee Anthony’s remains, the possible use of chloroform and the strange circumstances, it wasn’t enough. They eventually found Casey Anthony, 25, not guilty of murdering Caylee, but guilty of lying to police four times in the course of their investigation. “We knocked those out right away because the evidence was there,” the jury foreman said, but the murder charge was a different story entirely. An early vote on the murder charge in the jury room was 10-2 to find Casey Anthony not guilty , he said. Less than 11 hours later, it was 12-0. “I think emotion [about Casey’s behavior] could have played into it, just gut response,” the juror said, though he never asked his counterparts. Eventually, the two dissenters came around, he added, as jurors considered what they felt were holes in the prosecution’s evidence. What do you think? Did the jurors get it right?

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Video Is ‘Slimy,’ ‘Sexy,’ Fans Say

Little monsters in New York’s Times Square react to Gaga’s shocking birth scene, Michael Jackson homage and more. By Vaughn Schoonmaker Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Lady Gaga’s Born This Way video premiered on Monday (February 28), and, as many of her videos tend to do, it created some confusion among viewers. MTV News asked fans in New York City’s Times Square for their reactions. “It looks like she’s giving birth to something,” Angela Foreman suggested. “She looks really slimy!” Amanda Russ squealed. Another fan, Katie Doig, made the same observation as several of those we spoke to: “She’s so bizarre, but she’s great!” The video features Gaga taking on various identities, both “good” and “evil,” and is filled with dancing, kaleidoscopic imagery, protruding facial and shoulder horns and, of course, fashionably loud costumes and makeup. “She looks strange,” Foreman said about one scene. “Like a devil, very demonic.” “I don’t understand [but] it’s typical from Lady Gaga,” Guillaume Lachaud said about the unusual looks, and then added, “very beautiful, very sexy.” Gaga also is seen performing intricate moves (choreographed by Laurieann Gibson) to the “Born This Way” chorus, while dressed in a black bra and bikini; her body is especially exposed and toned in this clip. “She’s such a good dancer!” Doig exclaimed. As for the tuxedo-wearing skeleton sequence, it reminded some fans of another music-video pop icon. “She looks like Michael Jackson!” Lachaud smiled. “Very ‘Thriller,’ Foreman added. In spite of their baffled expressions, all agreed that the video held up against her previous work. “I think she looks great,” Andrew Janda complimented. “It’s a nice video.” “She’s so out there,” Doig laughed. “But it’s so good, like, only Lady Gaga can do it.” Sound off on the “Born This Way” video in the comments below!
