Connie Britton Blasts Mitt Romney for Use of Friday Night Lights Catchphrase

Clear eyes, full hearts… can’t use? Over the past few weeks, Mitt Romney has been including a line in his stump speech that originated on NBC’s Friday Night Lights , echoing fictional Coach Eric Taylor when telling attendees: Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose! But Connie Britton, who starred on that beloved drama and now anchors Nashville , takes issue with the candidate’s ganking of the catchphrase. Referencing the show’s town of Dillon, Texas, Britton penned an op-ed in this weekend’s USA Today that reads: “Dillon is a classic American town filled with hard-working, middle-class Americans, who just want to lead productive, healthy lives… In fact, it is President Obama who has shown his values to be more closely aligned with those represented by the phrase.” Written along with FNL Producer Sarah Aubrey, Britton adds : “President Obama’s landmark Affordable Care Act has been transformative for women. For the first time in our lives, being a woman is no longer a pre-existing condition — our insurers can’t charge us more for having breast cancer or being the victim of domestic violence. “This law fully covers the cost of our preventive care, our annual check-ups, our birth control. And on Friday Night Lights, quarterback Matt Saracen’s grandma would have then been able to get the affordable health care she needed… “Let’s use our clear eyes and full hearts to vote early. Let’s use our clear eyes and full hearts to tell every friend, family member and neighbor about what’s at stake for women in this election. What’s at stake for all of us.” What do you think of Mitt Romney using this catchphrase?   It’s cheap! It’s inspiring! Who cares?!? View Poll »

Catching Fire Casting Scoop: Down to Three for Finnick Odair?

We are reportedly down to three for the role of Finnick Odair. With Robert Pattinson (thankfully) out of the running for this key Catching Fire character , E! News claims producers have narrowed their choices down to the following trio: Taylor Kitsch : Beloved Friday Night Lights star who anchored two of the biggest flops in Hollywood history, John Carter and Battleship . Armie Hammer : Oscar nominee and upcoming Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp as Tonto. Garrett Hedlund : Starring opposite Kristen Stewart in On the Road . E! also claims The Hunger Games sequel might go with a relative nobody for Finnick, who is a former winner of the story’s annual competition and possesses both a ridiculously amazing body and a cocky personality. Which of these actors would be best suited for the part?

Taylor Kitsch Feels ‘Weird’ About Heartthrob Status

‘I only have about 6,200 mirrors at my house,’ he jokes during ‘MTV First: John Carter.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Kitsch Photo: MTV News Those who are most familiar with Taylor Kitsch likely know him from one role and one show: Tim Riggins and “Friday Night Lights.” The tortured hero is a special favorite among Kitsch’s female fans and catapulted him to serious heartthrob status. When MTV News caught up with Kitsch during “MTV First: John Carter” on Thursday, we asked if it ever gets old being objectified. “Yes, it gets old,” he admitted. “It makes you feel weird. You get awkward like I am right now. Hopefully, it doesn’t turn into validation of self. It is what it is. It’s flattering, but at the end of the day, I only have about 6,200 mirrors at my house,” he joked. “It’s no big deal. Who doesn’t?” Kitsch has previously stated that he understands and appreciates ladies’ love for Riggins but that he doesn’t want to disappoint them when they find out he isn’t actually the same guy they love from the show. Speaking of the rugged bad boy, we had to address the oft-mentioned “Friday Night Lights” movie, which show runner and likely director Peter Berg told us recently is still in the works. Although Kitsch still seems satisfied with how the show ended, he is intrigued by the idea of the movie. “First of all, it would be very hard to say no to Berg,” he said. “Secondly, I love that guy [Riggins], and he is truly a huge reason why I’m here, but I love the way we left him, I truly do. I’d love to read this script that we have just floating around.” But what fans really want Kitsch to answer: Lyla or Tyra? “Maybe neither?” he hedged. “Maybe we have to explore that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “John Carter.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Scott Porter and Kelsey Mayfield: Engaged!

A heartfelt congratulations is in order for Scott Porter and his girlfriend of four years, Kelsey Mayfield: they’re engaged!!! An insider confirms to Us Weekly that the Hart of Dixie actor proposed in late January and the couple is now living together in Los Angeles. Mayfield, a casting director, met Porter on the set of Friday Night Lights , but didn’t know at the time that he portrayed Jason Street, one of the drama’s main character. “They hit it off regardless, and one week when Kelsey was going on a trip, Scott gave her some DVDs of the show,” a source says . “Of course she was laughing when she found out [he was on the show] and called him.” Awww, what a sweet story! We wish these two nothing but happiness. [Photo: WENN.com]

Adrianne Palicki Is Ready For A ‘Badass’ 2012

With roles in ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ and ‘Red Dawn,’ the ‘Friday Night Lights’ alum is One to Watch in 2012. By Kevin P. Sullivan Adrianne Palicki in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” Photo: MGM If 2012 teaches us anything about Adrianne Palicki, it may be that she knows her way around a machine gun. The former “Friday Night Lights” star finds herself pulling the trigger in two high-profile action movies this year, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Red Dawn.” Starring alongside big names like Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Hemsworth and fellow Ones to Watch in 2012 honoree Josh Hutcherson in a single year definitely has our attention, but Palicki kicks ass in her own right. We spoke with Palicki about her big 2012 and the difficulties of finding a date — knowing what she does about hand-to-hand combat. MTV : First off, I have to congratulate you on being included in MTV’s Ones to Watch 2012. Adrianne Palicki : Thank you very much. It’s very cool. I’m very flattered. MTV : You have such a huge year coming up. Palicki : Yeah, they keep telling me that. [ Laughs. ] It’s surreal. Part of it is, “Red Dawn” I shot three years ago, so that feels so foreign to know that’s actually going to come out this year. “G.I. Joe,” we literally got off the plane from New Orleans and the trailer was out. I’ve never experienced anything like that. I feel like I’m still working right now. When we were shooting, it was less than a year until it came out. We knew that. It was just shocking. MTV : The fan response to the “G.I. Joe” trailer seemed overwhelmingly positive. Palicki : It was a pleasant surprise, because this is a reboot. It’s scary going into the shoes that have already been worn. We wanted to do something really unique and special. With such an amazing group of talented actors, you don’t want it to fall flat. How many people reached out, it’s unbelievable to hear the comments that they’re so excited, that the trailer is better than the first movie was. Just really cool reactions that you’re going, “OK, hopefully we don’t let you down.” I really don’t think we will. I think it’s going to be a really fun ride for everybody. MTV : It had to be a fun movie to shoot, right? Palicki : Oh my God, it was a blast. Jon Chu, he’s this genius. The thing that’s so special about him is that he might be the biggest G.I. Joe fan on the planet, so that really came in our favor. He’s young and interesting and full of ambition. We really did things that were super exciting and super scary, and I really feel everything’s going to come out really, really well. MTV : What was the scariest thing you had to do on set? Palicki : We did have to scale a wall, but after seeing “Mission: Impossible 4,” I’m like, “Well, I guess it wasn’t that scary.” An 18-foot wall compared to a skyscraper. The fun thing is that we get to do a lot of our own stunts. MTV : Were you a fan of “G.I. Joe” when you were growing up? Palicki : Oh yeah, definitely. I have a big brother, so anything he liked, I liked. He was super big into comic books, so I was super big into comic books. He was super big into G.I. Joe, and I wanted to be Jinx so badly. I don’t know just if it was that she was wearing a red costume or what, but I wanted to be a ninja. MTV : Were you disappointed to be Lady Jaye then? Palicki : Lady Jaye’s a badass. I couldn’t really be disappointed with Lady Jaye. She’s the one chick in the boys club. She can hold her own. She doesn’t get the staff, but she is a weapons specialist. She has that going for her. MTV : What was it like working with two huge action stars, Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis? Palicki : Dwayne is like a teddy bear. I know his fans probably don’t want to hear that. He might be one of the nicest people on the planet, genuinely. Very caring and very giving. Bruce is a kick in the pants. We get along really well, but he definitely came in during the middle of shooting for a week, added some flavor and left. But he was really fun to work with. I really enjoyed him. MTV : How comfortable are you with a machine gun now? Palicki : Between “Red Dawn,” “Wonder Woman” and now “G.I. Joe,” I feel like I could actually go and really harm some people with my hands. I feel like a Navy SEAL. It’s been fun. I mean, I get paid to do this sh–. I get paid to shoot an AK-47 or a .50 cal or punch some dudes in the face or groin or whatever. It’s a really fun job. MTV : What’s it like having “Red Dawn” come out after all this time? Palicki : It’s weird, because I’m so very removed from it. It was such a great experience, and I enjoyed it so much. Honestly, there’s been some disappointment for me because it’s going to be released and then it’s not. It’s going to be released and then it’s not. I’m relieved. I’m really excited it’s coming out, and I’m excited to see it myself. I haven’t seen it in a year, and I’m sure it’s changed quite a bit. MTV : Back then Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson weren’t exactly the huge stars they are today. Palicki : Oh, Josh Hutcherson. I love him so much. It’s crazy. We were babies. It’s going to be so funny to see myself in “G.I. Joe” before playing an 18-year-old in “Red Dawn.” It’s just insane. We’re all just babies. Chris was training to go shoot “Thor” when we were shooting that movie. It’s crazy. It was so long ago. MTV : How does it feel having these two action movies coming out in same year? Palicki : It’s very strange, and it’s like, “OK, I guess I’ll be an action star. Why not?” I will never have a date again, but it’s cool, whatever. Men are going to be afraid of me. It’s really special, and I’m excited. It’s going to be a very busy year for me. MTV : One of your fellow Ones to Watch is … Palicki : Taylor Kitsch . I know that guy! He’s awesome. I miss him. He’s the nicest guy. He’s Canadian, I mean, need I say more? He also has the most ridiculous, disgusting sense of humor than anyone I’ve met. He’s so raunchy, and when it comes out of his mouth, because he’s Canadian and because he’s so nice, it comes out of nowhere. It just makes it that much funnier. MTV : Who’s going to have the bigger year? Palicki : Oh God, I can’t. I think Taylor’s going to have the bigger year. I’m not going to lie. He has a lot coming out this year and all different kinds of movies. I’m really proud of him. He deserves it. He’s worked really hard. I’m excited to see where he goes with his career. The thing is, he’s not just a pretty face. I mean, he has a very pretty face, by the way, but that’s not all he has. What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It’s time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012 ! Check out everything we’ve got on “G.I. Taylor Swift Cozies Up To Zach Gilford In ‘Ours’ Video

Taylor’s adorable new kitten Meredith also makes a cameo in just-released Speak Now clip. By Kara Warner Taylor Swift on the set of “Ours” Photo: Big Machine via Instagram That Taylor Swift sure does know how to work the “awww!” effect into her music, and even more so in her sweet and wholesome music videos, with their varying themes on love: whether it be lost, won or rekindled. Her latest clip is for the country-tinged ballad “Ours,” a bonus track from last year’s Speak Now, which debuted Friday evening (December 2) on E! Once again, Swift serves up nearly four minutes of sweetness. The video opens up on a generic office building, in all its beige-toned, boring glory, full of disgruntled employees. Enter a dressed-down Swift wearing very little makeup, slightly frizzy hair and a bland suit and skirt with office-worker-lady-standard sneakers. Throughout her workday, Swift gets jostled around in the elevator, harassed at her desk and defeated by a typically defiant copy machine and passes the time reminiscing about what we assume to be a lost love (played by “Friday Night Lights” cutie Zach Gilford), whom we see in cute flashback videos she plays on her work computer (which features a blink-and-you-miss-it wallpaper picture of Swift’s adorable new kitten, Meredith), then later via her iPad when she’s on the bus. The videos show Swift and Gilford playing in the leaves, snuggling together, Gilford playing with Meredith the scene-stealing kitten, playful wrestling on the couch, etc. As Swift’s workday winds down, she seems to get more smiley and excited, particularly when she leaves for the day, and we soon find out why — her lost love was overseas serving in the military, and she meets him at the airport for an adorably sweet hello-again embrace. As we mentioned before, it’s an “awww!” moment, which makes the video “awww”-dorable. What do you think of Taylor Swift’s latest video? Let us know in the comments below! Just as Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” is one of the more bittersweet-sounding singles to be released from Teenage Dream when compared to, say, “California Gurls” or “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”, the video looks to be one of the darkest from this era of the singer’s career. ‘Glee’-Cap: Newbie Rory Brings ‘Pot O’ Gold’

Damian McGinty stops by to critique our Gleek’s Irish folk song. By Jim Cantiello Damian McGinty and Heather Morris in “Glee” Photo: FOX In Tuesday night’s “Pot O’ Gold” episode of “Glee,” McKinley High welcomed a new foreign exchange student, Rory (Damian McGinty), which inspired MTV News’ resident Gleek to write an Irish folk song in his honor. The new guy was great, and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” was a jolt of excitement, but in the end, did the oddball custody battle, distracting Congressional race and eyebrow-raising Puck/Shelby romance suggest that the third season might be hitting the same uneven patches that plagued season two? At the very least, viewers had next week’s steamy promo to drool over. Sing along to our latest musical “Glee”-cap! Family, friends and fellow Gleeks Come gather ’round for a story About a kind young Irish lad Who goes by the name of Rory He doesn’t fit in Despite being Under Finn’s wing But, boy, can he sing He’s good for a wish Wants Brittany to kiss His place of bliss Instead, he’s dismissed Mercedes recruits Santana the brute Who threatens the cute New Irish suit He ain’t so keen On being green And Brittany careens Into Shelby’s routines [Damian enters, coughs. The music stops] Damian : “Jim, that’s the worst Irish accent I’ve ever heard. It’s offensively bad. You know the Lucky Charms guy? It’s even worse than that.” Jim : “Um. I … Sorry.” Damian : “Thanks for making me feel welcome, you jerk.” Jim : “Say hi to Klaine for me!” [The song resumes.] How could I go this far without Singing about that promo For next week’s epic episode In which my favorite homos Finally do the deed, my friends? I want it NOW, not later But I could use these seven days To buy a defibrillator Raise your hand if you give a f— About Quinn or Shelby or Puck And keep it raised if you still care When Sue makes jokes about Schuester’s hair Yes, it’s great that Burt went and saved The school play from being extinct But the very last thing that “Glee” needs Is a political plotline that stinks Thank God for Klaine For keeping me sane Did you see when he grabbed his hip? I love that what keeps this show afloat Is actually a “ship” “Last Friday Night” Was oh so right A glorious sight Made me high as a kite Even though that Darren Was the one to sing Despite having been In Katy’s thing A stand-out scene You know what I mean The twirl was a dream Cute to the extreme Next week, our two boys Are gonna be poised To make some noise For us to enjoy [to the tune of “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”] Next Tuesday night, Klaine goes all the way.
