I’m waiting on certain Hollywood legends to find descendents in current cineplex stars. Far as I’m concerned, we’re in dire need of a new Jack Lemmon, a new Shirley MacLaine , and a new Madeline Kahn, along with many, many others. But every so often, a millennial star finds a way to exhume the spirit of an old star while adding refreshing relevance. I present to you the following hypothesis in silver screen genealogy: Cameron Diaz is our new Goldie Hawn .

New Still from Pixar Short Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation — Aloha, Woody

And now, a safe prediction about Cars 2 : Its best part will be the short that precedes the movie. In the mini adventure, both Woody and Buzz (still voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, respectively) and the rest of the toys stage a Hawaiian getaway for Ken (Michael Keaton), whose botched travel plans with Barbie (Jodi Benson) force him to remain in Bonnie’s bedroom. A just-released still from the short is enough to bring back my tears from Toy Story 3 . I could live in these damn movies.

WaPo Does It Right This Time: Hires Jennifer Rubin to Cover Conservatives

The Washington Post announced Tuesday that it has hired Commentary Magazine contributing editor Jennifer Rubin to write a blog on the conservative movement and the Republican Party. The move suggests that the Post has learned its lessons from the short run it gave blogger Dave Weigel, who resigned in June after emails surfaced showing him viciously attacking some prominent conservatives. The emails suggested that Weigel was hostile to large segments of the conservative movement, the beat he had been assigned to cover. read more
