Happy 110th Birthday to the Inimitable Marlene Dietrich! What’s Her Best Work?

Marlene Dietrich is one of the most talented, intelligent, and iconic actors of all time, and not just because everyone from Madeline Kahn to Madonna and Suzanne Vega has invoked her image with staggering results. The ferocious screen icon and cabaret star is the very definition of a vision , a cutting and defiant actress with gusto and guts galore. On the occasion of her 110th birthday, let’s commemorate her finest work. Though she garnered an Oscar nod for her turn in 1930′s Morocco , there can be no mistaking Dietrich’s amazing, beguiling work in 1957′s Witness for the Prosecution . As the mysterious wife of an accused murderer (Tyrone Power, in his last role), Dietrich tears up the screen with dramatic testimonies, cryptic declarations, and the icy conviction of a Teutonic high priestess. Here’s the climactic scene, wherein she reveals her entire plans to the dumbfounded Wilfred Robards (Charles Laughton). What’s your favorite Marlene moment? Follow Louis Virtel on Twitter . Bad Movies We Love: Clue

For once in Bad Movies We Love history, I’m both speechless and teary-eyed. The holiday season is here, and as far as I’m concerned, that means it’s time to wheel out the movies that are fucking dependable — the ones that enrich our families, provide nourishment for our newborns, and encourage Jesus to be more of a hilarious character actress. For me, this means one movie — my favorite movie — and one that could be considered bad if you are a heartless, freakish, braindead moviegoer who thinks that skittish ensemble comedies based on board games might be stupid. I would strangle those people in a poorly lit billiard room. The movie is Clue , it’s the one thing on Earth I’m positive I love, and I want to hug you as I write this. Girl, let’s hold our candlesticks high, our dignities low, and bludgeon the daylights out of Mr. Boddy.

Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd and More Are Down For a Wet Hot American Summer Sequel

You know how David Wain was toying with the idea of directing a Wet Hot American Summer prequel in which all of the middle-aged cast members appear as 16-year-olds? Well, that project may not just be another sequel pipe dream because five of the original film’s actors have already agreed to return to Camp Firewood.

That’s When Michael Bay Stranded Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the Desert

Michael Bay is notoriously tough on actors — just ask Megan Fox — but it appears he gave new Transformers: Dark of the Moon star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley some preparedness training before he even cast her in the new robot-killing film. Warning: this story involves the desert, high heels, and underwear.

Is Cameron Diaz the New Goldie Hawn?

I’m waiting on certain Hollywood legends to find descendents in current cineplex stars. Far as I’m concerned, we’re in dire need of a new Jack Lemmon, a new Shirley MacLaine , and a new Madeline Kahn, along with many, many others. But every so often, a millennial star finds a way to exhume the spirit of an old star while adding refreshing relevance. I present to you the following hypothesis in silver screen genealogy: Cameron Diaz is our new Goldie Hawn .

Flames On The Side Of My Face: Clue Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

Sure, we’ve been inundating you with anniversaries and reminders from Back to the Future , reminding you of the silver jubilee of even the most mundane McFly minutia . But there’s another Christopher Lloyd 25th anniversary that shouldn’t be forgotten, a film that was mostly ignored when first released, but which has blossomed into a comedy classic and a cult favorite. It also happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time, Clue .
