In her 33 years with the U.S. Geological Survey, earthquake scientist Lucy Jones has become a universal mother for rattled Southern Californians. Working as an earthquake expert at the US Geological Survey for the last 33 years, Dr. Lucy Jones, 61, has been dubbed ‘the earthquake lady.’ During her tenure, Jones has become the go-to expert for media outlets on all things earthquakes. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.9 and struck at around 10:45 am. The center of the Long island earthquake was located 100 miles off the shores of Southampton in the Atlantic Ocean. This is the second earth movement residents of Long Island experience; back in June they felt the earthquake that took place in eastern Canada. A minor earthquake that was felt as far away as Vermont rocked an area underneath the Atlantic Ocean near Long Island on Tuesday
