Prayers Up: Houston Hit By ‘Catastrophic’ Flooding From Hurricane Harvey

BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI/AFP/Getty Images Houston Hit By Flooding After Harvey Houston residents are being urged to “shelter in place” or wait on top of their roofs for rescue after the damning effects of Hurricane Harvey. The storm which was a category 4 at landfall dumped torrential rain on the city and southeast Texas causing hundreds of water rescues. “This is a life-threatening situation,” said Michael Palmer, lead meteorologist at the Weather Channel. According to NBC News , the U.S. Coast Guard said it was conducting urban search and rescue operations in the greater Houston area and that its local command center had received more than 300 requests. “Currently there are five MH-65 Dolphin Helicopters conducting rescues,” the statement said. Hurricane Harvey’s claimed at least two lives. One person was found dead in a vehicle in Houston on Saturday night and another died in a house fire in Aransas County that rescuers could not reach because of flooding. So far, President Trump who told residents in the storm’s path “good luck”, has tweeted that this is the “worst storm/hurricane” some people have ever seen. So Katrina, that claimed over 1,000 lives never happened, huh? Many people are now saying that this is the worst storm/hurricane they have ever seen. Good news is that we have great talent on the ground. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 27, 2017 Prayers up to the folks in Houston and surrounding areas.

Jose Fernandez Killed in Boat Accident; Marlins Pitcher Was 24

Tragedy has struck the world of professional sports: Jose Fernandez, one of the best young players in Major League Baseball, was found dead early Sunday morning. He was 24 years old. The U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed Fernandez was one of three people killed in a boat crash off Miami Beach after the vessel he was on crashed into a jetty. In response to the tragedy, the Miami Marlins announced that Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves had been canceled. The team also released the following statement: “The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of José Fernández. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time.” Chief Petty Officer Nyxolyno Cangemi told The Associated Press that a Coast Guard patrol boat spotted an overturned boat at approximately 3:30 a.m. on a jetty near Government Cut. The bodies of all three victims were discovered a short while later. Fernandez was on a 32-foot board that had a “severe impact” with the jetty, said Fish and Wildlife spokesman Lorenzo Veloz. Just last week, Fernandez had announced that his girlfriend was pregnant. “All of Baseball is shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández,” Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “He was one of our game’s great young stars who made a dramatic impact on and off the field since his debut in 2013. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Miami Marlins organization and all of the people he touched in his life.” Fernandez emigrated to the United States from Cuba in 2008, following three failed defection attempts. He eventually settled in Tampa, Florida and became a United States citizen last year. He was the 14th overall draft pick in 2011 by the Marlins, out of Tampa’s Alonso High School. Two years later, Fernandez was named the National League Rookie of the Year. This past year, he was 16-8 with a 2.86 ERA this season, earning his second appearance in the All-Star Game. Major League Baseball Players Associated executive director Tony Clark also released a statement Sunday morning in response to the awful news: “We are devastated by the news that Jose Fernandez has tragically passed. Jose was a remarkable young man and a tremendously gifted athlete, who at just 24, established himself as one of the game’s biggest and brightest stars. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jose’s family, friends, teammates, Miami Marlins organization and legions of fans in the United States and Latin America.” We also send our thoughts and prayers to Fernandez’s friends, family members and loved ones. That White: U.S. Coast Guard Makes Historic $37 Million Yayo Bust In Miami!

Police: 1, Poweder Pushers: 0 Coast Guard Makes $37 Million Drug Bust In Miami Via MiamiHerald The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Sitkinak pulled into the Miami Beach Coast Guard station Tuesday morning showing off what it called a “historic” cocaine haul made possible through joint operations with the British Royal Fleet. Several officers unloaded 2,500 pounds of cocaine, worth an estimated street value of more than $37 million. The drugs were seized just south of the Dominican Republic in the early morning hours of Jan. 22. According to U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Gabe Somma, officers aboard the 110-foot island class cutter spotted a 25-foot go-fast boat with two outboard engines —and “very visible packages on the deck” — then notified the British vessel Wave Knight. As the alleged smugglers began to dump the 45 prepackaged bricks containing the cocaine into the ocean, a Coast Guard helicopter was launched from the deck of the Wave Knight, warning shots were fired, and the drugs were recovered. Four men were taken into custody and handed over to federal law enforcement officials. Coast Guard Lt. Junior Grade Officer Meaghan Gies said the U.S. and the British fleet have been undergoing joint operations in the region for several years, but the Jan. 22 seizure marked the first time a U.S. helicopter was launched from a British ship. The contraband was originally stored aboard the Wave Knight, then transferred to the Sitkinak at sea. The alleged smugglers were brought ashore and transferred to federal agents. Did You Know?? Oil Rig In Gulf of Mexico Gets Rocked By Explosion!!

Big oil tycoons are still blowin’ isht up!!! According to ABC News : Ships and helicopters are searching for two oil rig workers who disappeared when an explosion rocked a Gulf of Mexico oil rig off the coast of Louisiana and set it on fire, Coast Guard officials said. Eleven other crew members were flown to hospitals, and four of them are listed in critical condition. There were no confirmed deaths as of the early evening. Earlier reports by the Coast Guard that as many as 15 people were unaccounted for were resolved as the workers were located. Among the injured were four who were airlifted for medical treatment to the West Jefferson Medical Center, where they were in critical condition after suffering serious burns. All four were intubated and were to be evacuated to Baton Rouge Burn Center when they were stabilized, according to West Jefferson spokesman Taslin Alfonzo. Three helicopters and two rescue boats were scouring the water looking for the missing crew members, according to Ed Cubanski, chief of the U.S. Coast Guard response. The Coast Guard said that a Black Elk Energy Co. oil and natural gas platform caught fire after workers using a torch cut a line that had 28 gallons of oil in it, causing an explosion. Black Elk’s CEO, John Hoffman, said that the wrong tool was used in cutting the line. Contract workers should have used a saw instead of a torch, which caught vapors and caused the blast. The workers were employees of Grand Isle Shipyard, not Black Elk, he said. All of the individuals were men. The rig was offline for maintenance and was scheduled to go back online for production later this month. Because the rig was not actively producing oil or gas, there appeared to be little threat of a spill, according to the Coast Guard. There were 22 people on board at the time of the explosion, the Coast Guard said. Images via tumblr

Shady Azz BP Oil Attempts Beach Cleanup After Hurricane Isaac–Asks Permission To ‘Deep Clean’

Yeah…go ahead and tell us one more time that you cleaned all that isht up! This just sounds like another PR scheme to us. BP PLC says it wants to aggressively clean up buried oil exposed on Louisiana’s beaches by Hurricane Isaac’s churning waves. The company wants to dig deep into beaches and remove oil buried since a BP well blew out on April 20, 2010, leading to the nation’s largest offshore spill. But digging deep can bring its own problems — it can be harmful to creatures that live on beaches or feed on them and it also may lead to erosion by loosening up sand. Erosion is a constant worry in Louisiana because the state is losing land at an alarming rate. Mike Utsler, the president of BP’s Gulf Coast Restoration Organization, said Tuesday the company has asked the Coast Guard and state and local officials for permission to do the “deep-cleaning.” In case you didn’t know, BP is still the largest fuel supplier to the U.S. Military. The Gulf-Killin’ company received 49 percent more in defense contracts this past fiscal year…making a 33 percent profit to $1.35 billion! Guess we can all sleep a little better at night knowing BP will do a good job…they’ll know exactly where to look since they’re the ones that buried all that “black gold” there in the first place! Did Bethenny Frankel Fake Her Sea Rescue?!?

In a truly stunning turn of events that may leave us questioning whether all of reality TV is scripted, a very reliable source says Bethenny Frankel’s supposedly daring rescue at sea last month was nothing but a farce. The story goes like this: Bethenny and husband Jason Hoppy were sailing comfortably between Block Island and Nantucket when their GPS malfunctioned and they had to call for help , barely surviving what Frankel described as a “traumatic” experience. But Tim Russell, the man who actually ventured out and brought Bethenny’s family in, says the story is a lie . He says the Coast Guard refused to drive out to Frankel’s vessel because the GPS was, indeed, working and there was simply no danger afoot. But Bethenny’s therapist insisted on calling a tow company, reached Russell and agreed to his $250 towing fee. Russell and his wife drove out and found nine people just hanging out on a working sailboat: Bethenny, Hoppy, the therapist and a Bravo film crew of six. They were fine. Frankel even came back in on the boat she went out on, simply following Russell’s tow ship to shore. One of the final sights a perturbed Russell witnessed before exiting angrily from the scene? A supposedly relieved Bethenny kissing the dock, just as a cameraman set up to get a close up. Russell says there are documents that prove the Coast Guard turned down the call because it deemed Frankel’s boat to be in working condition.
