Elsewhere In The World: Ghanaian Witch Doctor Takes Credit For Cristiano Ronaldo’s Pre-World Cup Injury

Put a hex on ya whole soccer team. Ghana is taking no chances at the World Cup this year. Ghanaian Witchdoctor Claims Responsibility For Injury That May Sideline Cristiano Ronaldo At World Cup According to Guardian reports : Ghana’s most influential witch doctor has claimed he is responsible for the knee injury that is threatening to Cristiano Ronaldo’s participation at the World Cup. Nana Kwaku Bonsam – whose name translates literally as “Devil of Wednesday” – predicted in February that the Real Madrid forward would be forced to miss this summer’s tournament in Brazil with injury. A statement from the Portuguese FA on Wednesday confirmed that Ronaldo is suffering from tendinosis in his left knee as well as nursing a muscle problem in his left thigh, which caused him to miss the 0-0 draw with Greece at the weekend. Ghana are set to meet Portugal in their final match of Group G in Brasilia on 26 June and Bonsam claims to have conjured a special powder from his gods, mixed with several leaves and concoctions which have been placed around an image and caricature of the former Manchester United player. “I know what Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury is about, I’m working on him,” Bonsam, who serves at the Kofioo Kofi shrine, said in an interview with the Kumasi-based Angel FM. “I am very serious about it. Last week, I went around looking for four dogs and I got them to be used in manufacturing a special spirit called Kahwiri Kapam. “I said it four months ago that I will work on Cristiano Ronaldo seriously and rule him out of the World up or at least prevent him from playing against Ghana and the best thing I can do is to keep him out though injury. “This injury can never be cured by any medic, they can never see what is causing the injury because it is spiritual. Today, it is his knee, tomorrow it is his thigh, next day it is something else.” SMH. Guess Black People crazy too. AP Images

Race Matters: African Clinic Advises Dark-Skinned Couples To Have Biracial Babies “To Make The Country Better”

African Fertility Clinic Advises Dark Skinned Couples To Have Biracial Babies One would assume that beautiful dark skin is most appreciated in Africa, but one fertility clinic in Ghana seems to think otherwise and is advising black couples to think that way also. via Kulture Kritic Skin complexion is an issue for people of color all over the world and in Ghana, there’s a new business that is on a mission to breed what they call “half-caste” babies for a better Africa. In Ghana, the fairer skinned people are often placed on a higher pedestal and are in greater demand for dates. Some refer to them as hotcakes because of their lighter skin color. Modern science, namely artificial insemination, is credited with having the ability to breed mixed-raced or half-caste babies without the need to marry or be intimate with a person of another race. In Accra, Ghana, there’s a gallant effort being made to create a new society in Africa referred to as a “Half-Caste World” through artificial insemination which it believes will position Africa for a better future. “Half-caste World is founded to transform Africa into the land of riches and beauty, the land of every man’s dream. We believe life began in African and will end in Africa,” the advocates posted on their Facebook page. This is shameful and ridiculous. Hopefully these couples aren’t buying into this bullisht… Shutterstock

Ghana Advance To U20 World Cup Semifinals After A Superb Game And Win Over Chile In Turkey! [Video]

These kids are the future… and let’s not talk about the final goal play. We knew Ghana was capable of the dramatic, but this is just foolish. In the U-20 World Cup round of 16, Ghana scored two goals in the final 11 minutes to shock Portugal, 3-2. But the Black Stars outdid themselves today against Chile in a seven-goal thriller. Ghana, though they were more aggressive and looked more dangerous throughout the game, needed a 71st-minute Ebenezer Assifuah goal to claw back to 2-2, and 19 minutes later, the sides were headed to 30 minutes of extra time. That’s when shit got hectic. Eight minutes into extra time, Chile pulled ahead again, 3-2, when forward Angelo Henriquez timed a perfect curling run into the box and headed a ball played over the top of the Ghana defense past keeper Eric Antwi. It was a great two-man goal, and with Chile on top, Ghana had only 22 minutes to equalize and send the match to penalties. It only took them 15. By the 113th minute, Ghana were throwing bodies forward to attack, though Chile didn’t seem like they’d break until a deflection at the top of the box wrong-footed a defender and left Ghana with numbers in the 18. Black Stars playmaker Clifford Aboagye collected the ball, drew the last defender, and slotted a pass right to Salifa Seidu, who powered the chance low past Darío Melo for the goal to tie the match, 3-3. The two sides were virtually a lock to go to penalties, if only because almost everyone goes to penalties at this stage of the match. And it looked like they were, after just one minute had been added to the end. But in the 121st minute—30 seconds into injury time of extra time—Frank Ancheampong received a pass on the right sideline, beat two Chilean defenders with an ingenius, cutting run to the end line, and looped what amounted to an alley-oop into the middle of the 18-yard-box. Assifuah was waiting, and outjumped a teammate to direct a pathetic bouncing header onto goal. Two Chilean defenders shifted over to comfortably block the shot, and both missed the entire ball. It was unclear whether it was a communication error or a brief hesitation that usually comes with seeing a friendly jersey out of the corner of your eye, but they somehow fucked it up, and the ball lazily slid past them both. The goalkeeper was a foot away from the ball, but he was blinded by his defenders. So Assifuah’s pathetic header skipped into the back of the net, and Ghana was through to the semifinal. The Black Stars, who actually became the first African team to win the tournament in 2009, keep getting all the breaks, and are just two matches away from repeating as U-20 world champions. They play France on Wednesday. Let’s go Ghana!! youtube deadspin

Cold World: Keri Hilson Flies All The Way To Nigeria To Sing To An Empty Room

Poor Keri . Word on the street is she went to Nigeria and didn’t get no love! Via OMG Ghana reports : When I heard about Keri Hilson arriving Abuja for the face of Sofa Lounge show, I was surprised because I felt there wasn’t enough hype and publicity. However thinking more about it, I pushed the thoughts aside, concluding that there might have been, but I missed it. Unfortunately, people present at the show which took place at the International Conference Center, report that it was an outright flop, scantily attended, and sent me pictures below showing how empty the hall was. Normal ticket for the show cost: N7500, VIP: N20,000, VVIP: N500,000. Whereas, early this month the Minister said, About Half of Abuja Households Earn Less than N30, 000 per Month. Dayuuuum, ain’t nobody checking for Keri Hilson in Abuja? Hit the flip for the pics…

Elsewhere In The World: Details Emerge On Deadly Plane Crash In Nigeria

Details On Deadly Plane Crash In Nigeria Via CNN: The pilot of the Dana Air plane that crashed into a densely populated neighborhood in Lagos, Nigeria, radioed that the plane was having trouble just minutes earlier, an airline official told CNN on Monday. The details emerged as search and rescue crews worked to recover bodies from the wreckage, while authorities searched for the flight data recorders to try to piece together what brought down the plane Sunday, killing all 153 people aboard and at least 10 on the ground. The death toll will probably rise as crews search the rubble of a two-story residential building that the McDonnell Douglas MD-83 plane struck. It was unclear how many people were inside the building and on the street outside at the time of the crash, Mohammad Sani Sidi, the emergency management director, told CNN from the crash site. The pilot declared an emergency as the plane was on final approach to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and witnesses said it appeared the plane was having engine trouble, said Oscar Wason, Dana Air’s director of operations. Wason identified the pilot as an American, but did not release his name or hometown. The co-pilot was from India, and the flight engineer from Indonesia, Wason said. Among the dead are six Chinese citizens who were on board the flight, the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria said Monday. According to witnesses, the passenger plane appeared to be coming in high with its nose up when it crashed, hitting the ground tail first, Wason said. The flight, bound from the Nigerian capital of Abuja, crashed at 3:43 p.m. (10:43 a.m. ET) in the neighborhood of Iju Ishaga, just north of the airport, according to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. The crash site was 11 miles from the runway, Wason said. The Nigerian aviation authority has not asked Dana Air to ground its planes, though the airline canceled all its flights Monday as show of respect for the victims of the crash, he said. Dana Air, which is privately owned and based in Lagos, began operations in 2008. Nigeria’s deadliest air disaster came in July 1991, when all 261 on board a Nigerian Airways airliner were killed when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff in Saudi Arabia. On Saturday, a Boeing 727 cargo plane operated by Nigeria-based Allied Air from Lagos overshot the runway in Accra, Ghana, and hit a passenger bus, killing 10 people, officials said. Dana Air set up a 24-hour hotline to provide information about the Sunday crash. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of guests who were involved in the Dana Air mishap,” the airline posted on its website. “May the souls of the deceased rest in peace.” Lagos, with a population of more than 7.9 million people, is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. It is Nigeria’s commercial hub. Wow. The plane went down just 11 miles from the runway. R.I.P. to those lost in this disaster.

Lupe Fiasco’s ‘T.R.O.Y.’ Remake Is ‘Wack,’ Pete Rock Says

Catch Lupe Fiasco on ‘RapFix Live’ this Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Lupe Fiasco Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage When Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth dropped “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” 20 years ago, the celebrated rap duo was still reeling over the unexpected death of their dear friend Troy “Trouble T” Dixon of Heavy D & the Boyz. What began as the most personal of lyrical eulogies soon became an iconic hip-hop track, so when Lupe Fiasco reworked the “T.R.O.Y.” instrumental for his new single “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” on Monday, things were all good until Pete Rock chimed in. “No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made Outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one,” Rock tweeted on Monday after hearing the track. While Lu’s new single clearly is a nod to “T.R.O.Y,” the original track isn’t exactly an original composition, as it samples from jazz musician Tom Scott’s 1967 song “Today.” It’s possible that “Around My Way,” which was produced by Simonsayz and B-Sidet, sampled a portion of their track from Scott’s version. This isn’t the first time that Lupe has paid homage to Pete Rock either, he once freestyled over the “Reminisce” beat for his “Dopeboys” freestyle with Wale and Kardinal Offishall. Lyrically, Lu continues to push rap’s topical boundaries on “Around My Way,” choosing to rhyme about social-political ills in Ghana and corruption in the oil industry. Rock stressed that he did not have a personal problem with the Chicago rapper, he just didn’t appreciate the remake. “I’m not flattered @ all. Dat sh– is wack, and the producer should be ashamed of his f–kin self. Smh,” he wrote . On Tuesday, Lupe began tweeting links to other “T.R.O.Y.” remakes, including Mann’s J.R. Rotem-produced “Reminisce” and a remixed version of the song which featured Journalist, Mr. Cheeks and Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth themselves. Finally Lupe took the high road and tweeted a YouTube link to the original Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth video with the hash tag “#20YearsLaterStillTheBest.” Catch Lupe Fiasco on this week’s “RapFix Live,” Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Do you side with Pete Rock? Our History Makers: Thurgood Marshall

Go here to read the rest:

The fight to end segregation was a three-pronged attack. The beloved Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. evoked sympathy from the nation, the militant Malcolm X evoked fear, and Thurgood Marshall evoked the law. While King and X gave blacks the courage to stand up to segregation, it was Marshall who fought for these brave people in court. Through a systematic plan of legal attack, Marshall and the NAACP legal defense fund dismantled a system that had shackled blacks since slavery. Before Marshall won his landmark cases in the Supreme Court, he got a little pay-back as a young attorney in Maryland. In 1936, Marshall won a major civil rights case that’s almost forgotten. The case, Murray v. Pearson forced the University of Maryland to accept its first African-American student. It was a sweet victory for Marshall who was denied entrance to Maryland five years later because he was black. The case caught the attention of NAACP leaders and Marshall joined the legal defense fund. As a lawyer for the NAACP, Marshall won 27 of 33 cases that argued before the Supreme Court. His success also brought international acclaim. The United Nations and the United Kingdom asked Marshall to help draft the constitutions of the emerging African nations of Ghana and what is now Tanzania. Before his subsequent nomination to the United States Supreme Court in 1967, Thurgood Marshall won 14 of the 19 cases he argued before the Supreme Court on behalf of the government. Some of his more recognized triumphs were : Chambers v. Florida , 309 U.S. 227 (1940) Marshall and his team of lawyers persuaded the Supreme Court to overturn a criminal conviction based on a coerced confession. Smith v. Allwright , 321 U.S. 649 (1944) Marshall convinced the Court to strike down a Texas practice which excluded blacks from participating in primary elections. Morgan v. Virginia , 328 U.S. 373 (1946) Marshall convinced the Court to strike down segregation on buses on routes of interstate travel). Shelley v. Kraeme r, 334 U.S. 1 (1948) Marshall convinced the Court to overturn lower court rulings in favor of restrictive covenants which prohibited land from being sold to African Americans. Sipuel v. University of Oklahoma , 332 U.S. 631 (1948) and Sweatt v. Painter , 339 U.S. 629 (1950) Marshall persuaded the Court to require universities in Oklahoma and Texas to integrate their law schools. Marshall’s greatest triumph was in the landmark cases Brown v. Board of Education, 347 U.S. 483 (1954), Marshall challenged the constitutionality of “separate but equal.”Marshall’s civil rights lawsuits aren’t the sum of his career. As an attorney and justice, he created new protections under law for women, children, prisoners, and the homeless. Read interviews and more information about Marshall’s career right here .
