Mary Elizabeth Winstead might have been passed over for The Avengers (love ya, Mary Elizabeth, but Team Cobie all the way!), but it appears she hasn’t been left out of the franchise sweepstakes. The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World star has reportedly landed the lead female role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter . Winstead will play Mary Todd opposite Benjamin Walker’s vampire killing president. Could Ryan Murphy’s New FX Project American Horror Story Be Good For Glee?

Just two days after Fox aired a mediocre episode of Glee entitled “The Comeback,” co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Fulchack have announced their own comeback. The pair are returning to the network’s cable offshoot FX — where they created Nip/Tuck — to film a mysterious pilot called American Horror Story . While no details were given about the subject matter of the project — other than the fact that the hour-long drama will begin production in April — we here at Movieline HQ think that the diversion might actually be the perfect remedy for the creators of Fox’s tired musical series.

Mr. Skin Hall-of-Famer and avowed muff-diver Amber Heard , who has done great nudity in Friday Night Lights , Alpha Dog , The Informers , and The Joneses , is set to star in the upcoming network series pilot Playboy . Picked up by NBC early last month, Playboy will be an hour-long drama set in the 1960s heyday of Playboy clubs that popped up in Chicago, New York, and other major cities around the country. Frankly (and spankly) it sounds a lot like the 1985 TV movie A Bunny’s Tale , starring Kirstie Alley and based on the experiences of 70s feminist icon and professional ball-buster Gloria Steinem . This is all well and good, but it’s time for Amber to return to the more skin-permissive medium of R-rated movies and explore her newfound taste for tuna tacos on the big screen. Heard is still the word!

Good news, fans of porn, HBO and Mark Wahlberg: All three elements are colliding in a new untitled series being developed at the premium cable network by Entourage executive producers Wahlberg and Steve Levinson. The hour-long drama will focus on a “giant video company under siege from Internet competitors and a girl from the Midwest whose boyfriend convinces her to move to Los Angeles to become a star.” Both actors and real-life porn performers will star in the project, which is being written by none other than… James Frey. Said the Million Little Pieces scribe, “We’re going to make a sprawling epic about the porn business in LA. We’re going to tell the type of stories no one else has told before.” Well, no one except for Paul Thomas Anderson. [ NYP ]
