A movie date night turned recently went really awry for Timothy Busfield, but the actor has been cleared in the sexual assault investigation that followed. No charges will be filed. The former West Wing and Thirtysomething star was accused of sexual assault by a woman who said he groped her breasts and genitals at the movies. According to reports, the 55-year-old got into this mess after the duo began smooching during a screening at a Thousand Oaks, Calif., theater. Apparently he thought the date was going better than she did. In any case, the cops investigated the matter and prosecutors declined to file charges. Insufficient evidence existed, so that’s that. The case has been officially closed … even if uncomfortable, borderline hilarious imagery lingers. [Photo: WENN.com]
Yvette Wilson passed away from cancer a few days ago, and while the actress’ death has left Nicki Minaj in tears, it’s also left her irate. At the American health care system. In a series of Tweets posted not long after Wilson died, Minaj went off on current policy and even addressed President Barack Obama at one point. “What’s sad is that when Yvette was bringing home the bacon, the gov’t was probably taking millions. On her deathbed though, #Nowheretobefound,” Nicki wrote. “That should be a God given right! Even with Obama Care, too much involved. Just give FREE health care to all. @barackobama What can we do? “@BarackObama I wouldn’t mind the millions they took if it was going to healthcare. Why should a poor person struggle to pay for MEDS sir?” The President, of course, is too busy helping Amanda Bynes avoid a DUI charge, but Member Questo of The Roots replied to Minaj’s Tweets with one of his own: “@NICKIMINAJ i personally know that the white house administration would LOVE for you to use ur tweet power to raise health care awareness.” Are you in favor of universal health care, readers?
Dottie Sandusky, whose disgraced husband Jerry Sandusky is accused of 52 felony counts of child sex abuse, took the stand in his trial Tuesday afternoon. Dottie Sandusky has stood by her husband, posting his bail, accompanying him to court and issuing a statement last year that proclaimed his innocence. Whether her remarks will change the direction of the case is an open question, but her testimony, at least early on, focused on how she and Jerry met. Jerry Sandusky Trial: Wife to Testify? One witness has testified that he was attacked the Sanduskys’ basement and tried to cry out for help when Dottie was upstairs, only to be ignored. Dottie, who is not charged with any crimes, says all the accusers are lying. Also Tuesday, Sandusky’s attorney closely questioned two Pennsylvania state police investigators about whether they coached Jerry Sandusky accusers . One of the troopers, Cpl. Joseph Leiter, now retired, acknowledged to lawyer Joe Amendola that he told at least one alleged victim of the former Penn State coach that they “wouldn’t be alone” if they came forward because “there were others.” Sandusky is accused of molesting 10 children over a 15-year period.
In case you’ve been trapped in a cave without Internet access for the past few weeks, Justin Bieber’s new album came out TODAY. It’s available RIGHT NOW. We won’t be offended if you run off and purchase it. Are you back? Okay. Good. In promotion of “Believe,” Justin called in to Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning and addressed a number of topics, first confirming that, yes, he did pen the track “Maria” after the Mariah Yeater baby scandal. “I couldn’t really talk about it when it was happening,” Bieber said of the tabloid circus. “Every interview I was like: ‘I can’t really talk about it.’ So, to be able to actually talk about it on the album is really awesome.” Why include the song on the CD? “People didn’t forget about it, it was still in the headline news. So, to be able to talk about it and really say my side of the story and really just express myself, I feel like that was the best way to do it.” Among many other subjects discussed by the Biebs… Which of his two fragrances does Selena Gomez like best? “I think she might like Girlfriend. I think my fans needs to go out and check it out and see what they think.” How has he remained so successful? “I always want to prove people wrong, of course, when people see someone come up so fast, and so young, singing pop music, they think how long can this really last? But, I was 15 when I recorded ‘Baby.’ So, I was young and I’m growing and I’m evolving and I’m changing. I have so many great mentors that I’m looking up to, to just help me be the best that I can be as an artist. I don’t see myself going anywhere for a long time.” Does he really have a studio in his van? “Yeah, it’s basically not for singing, but for me to make tracks and stuff, like a keyboard, and Logic, which is the program to make the stuff with.” Who are his influences? “I look up to different people as far musically, like Michael Jackson is someone who I look up to, but as far as in my personally life my mom is someone who I also look up to. Because she’s given up a lot and is a really strong woman.” ** ANOTHER REMINDER: THG is giving away free tickets to Justin’s concert in Arizona ! Go and apply now!
First single from just-released Some Nights is ‘saying all the things to people that we want to say,’ guitarist Jack Antonoff tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Nate Ruess of Fun. Photo: MTV News Fun. ‘s “We Are Young” has become one of the year’s most-unlikely sensations, leaping all the way to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart — behind only Kelly Clarkson and Adele — thanks in no small part to massive digital sales, a plum feature on “Glee” and, of course, that iconic, chaotic music video. So now, with a certified hit to their credit, Fun. are gearing up for the next phase of their climb: the release of their second studio album, Some Nights , out Tuesday (February 21). It’s a whirling, ambitious listen, the sound of a band busting boundaries and reaching for bigger and better things — “It’s been a long time coming, and we want it to take over the world,” frontman Nate Ruess said — so it’s fitting that it’s been preceded by “We Are Young,” a song that very much busts boundaries, and gets unapologetically big. “That song, to us, is like bull’s-eye center of what we wanted to do with this album,” guitarist Jack Antonoff told MTV News. “It’s a brilliant song to have out as a single, because it’s saying all the things to people that we want to say. It’s showing how, artistically, [the album is] different, it’s showing all the influences brought by Jeff Bhasker, who produced the album, and all he brings from his hop-hop world, working with people like Kanye and Jay-Z. And it shows where we’ve moved with songwriting. “And one of our favorite things about ‘We Are Young’ is that, if it’s the center of the album, every song is sprouting out of it in different directions,” he continued. “And if you like the song, then I think the album’s just going to be a rollercoaster ride, because it just flies in every direction in and out of that song.” In that regard, “We Are Young” has also become Fun.’s de facto anthem — by their own admission, their first — the song that they feel speaks best for this band, at this moment, on the verge of very big things. “It’s pretty rare, because any other projects that we’ve done, I don’t think any of us have ever had that song that was like, ‘This is our band,’ ” Antonoff said. “We’re proud to say, ‘Listen to this one song, and then come listen to the rest. Here it is.’ ” Share your review of Fun.’s new album in the comments below!
