Wait! What? New ID Documentary Contends O.J. Simpson Didn’t Do It

Are the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman about to get a new, unexpected chapter?  On Monday, the New York Post reported that the ID (as in Investigation Discovery) cable channel will air a documentary titled  My Brother the Serial Killer  that presents evidence that the subject of the film, Glen Rogers , who may have killed as many as 70 to 80 people, is the “likely” killer of the two, not O.J. Simpson , as has been frequently speculated in the media. According to the tabloid’s TV critic, Linda Stasi , Rogers’ family thought he was lying when he told them that he was “partying with a woman in L.A. named Nicole Brown Simpson shortly before she was murdered. A few years after the murders and the white Bronco highway chase that ushered in a worldwide media circus, Rogers, who was on death row for other murders, admitted to a criminal profiler that he’d killed Simpson and Goldman. Stasi writes that receipts that show Rogers had been working construction in the area at the time of the deaths and his knowledge of how the murders were conducted, appear to add to his credibility. Rogers also apparently claims that O.J. didn’t bring any of this information to light when he he was on trial because the former actor and football star had paid the serial killer to break into Ncole’s house and steal a pair of $20,000 earrings he’d given to her.   The Post also reports that Simpson allegedly told Rogers to “kill ‘the bitch’ if necessary.” Shortly after Simpson and Goldman met grisly ends, Rogers went on a cross-country murder rampage. My Brother the Serial Killer debuts on ID on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Happy 70th Birthday Week, Martin Scorsese! Celebrate With His Finest Scenes

Martin Scorsese turned 70 on Nov. 17, which makes it an ideal time to look at some of the best  cinematic gifts he’s given to the world.  This list could go on well past the eight clips I’ve chosen. For instance, Joe Pesci’s chilling “Do I amuse you in some way?” scene in GoodFellas could easily be included, but I wanted to feature one clip for each of Scorsese’s seven decades (and, in birthday tradition, one to grow on) without repeating any films. 1.   Robert De Niro’s  “You talkin’ to me?” scene in Taxi Driver   (1976) — One of the most quoted, imitated and parodied scenes in the last 50 years of filmmaking.  And look how young Bobby D looks.  2. The Copacabana Steady-cam shot from GoodFellas (1990)   — This shot makes me practically giddy every time I watch it. It’s a beautiful, seamless depiction of how power and influence can be bought and sold on the streets of New York City.

A Brief History of Your New Wonder Woman, Adrianne Palicki

27-year-old actress Adrianne Palicki is your new Wonder Woman/Diana Prince/Diana Themyscira — but who is Adrianne Palicki? The statuesque Ohio native has been a presence in TV of late, though even her most critically acclaimed shows ( Friday Night Lights, Lone Star ) tend to run into bad luck sooner or later. And curiously, she’s already had more than her fair share of brushes with fantasy/superhero franchises. ( Aquaman , anyone?) Take a look at the brief history of Adrianne Palicki’s acting career thus far and decide if you think she’s fit to fill out Lynda Carter’s pantyhose.

Great Day For Movie Lovers: Martin Scorsese and 5 Other Singular Directors Announce New Projects

Somewhere in between false rumors about an Olivia Wilde Tomb Raider reboot and hopefully untrue speculation about another Terminator sequel , six interesting directors including Martin Scorsese, Richard Kelly and Kimberly Pierce announced new projects today. Thanks, movie-news Gods! Granted, not all of these projects will necessarily turn out well (or even at all), but if past work is any indication, the ones that crash and burn will at least do so in a unique, fascinating and hopefully spectacular fashion (Looking at you, Kelly…). Click through for a rundown and place bets on your favorites.

Jason Bateman’s iPhoneGate Just Won’t Die

Yesterday, Jason Bateman tried to blame his iPhone line-jumping on paparazzi who were terrorizing the crowd gathered outside of the Apple Store. Now, several eyewitnesses are coming forward to refute the actor’s claims: “There was, at most, one photographer who kept a respectful distance,” one bystander told Us , while another added that the crowd was (understandably) very angry: “There was a chorus of boos and then people shouting, ‘What?’ and ‘We’ve been here for hours!’ They escorted him like he was a pretty big deal.” Apple, you might want to rethink that Arrested Development app. [ Us ]

Helen Mirren on Love Ranch, Red and Protecting Her Castmates From Horny Extras

Of all the reasons to love Dame Helen Mirren — her taste, class, grace, skill, discipline, fearlessness and ageless eroticism among them — 2010 might be the year we get the best look at her versatility. Having already given us the outsized wife of Leo Tolstoy in The Last Station , the Oscar-winner arrives in theaters this week as the flat-accented, fur-clutching, no-nonsense brothel madam Grace Bontempo of Love Ranch . October will bring the action-packed intrigue Red , featuring Mirren’s turn as a former CIA spook eluding an assassination rap alongside Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich. The jury’s out on the latter film, but the long-delayed Love Ranch (directed by Mirren’s husband Taylor Hackford) indeed provides a worthwhile study of grande dame by way of Nevada desert.

Taylor Hackford on Love Ranch — and Directing Wife Helen Mirren’s Sex Scene

It only took 25 years after their first, small collaboration, but director Taylor Hackford finally found the right film to make with his wife Helen Mirren. And to think: Love Ranch , which opens next week, almost didn’t open at all. The fictionalized story of the first legal brothel in the U.S. — and the crimes of passion (and otherwise) that helped sink it in 1977 — was in distribution limbo for most of 2009, ultimately breaking out earlier this year. Along with it come Mirren as a no-nonsense Nevada madam and Joe Pesci (in his first starring role in more than a decade) as her bare-knuckled pimpresario husband.
