‘Little Fockers’ Celebrates At The Holiday Box Office

‘Fockers’ won a meager first-place prize, while ‘True Grit’ blasted its way to second place. By Josh Wigler Ben Stiller in “Little Fockers” Photo: Universal Studios/DW Studios ‘Tis the season to be jolly, but while the holiday spirit was present in millions of households this past weekend, it wasn’t felt with nearly as much fanfare at the movies. It was a fairly quiet weekend at the box office this holiday season, with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro’s “Little Fockers” leading the pack with an estimated $34 million from Friday through Sunday and a five-day total of $48.3 million. But while Jack still has his eye on Greg, few people entered the circle of trust this go-around, as “Fockers,” the second sequel to the critically acclaimed “Meet the Parents,” failed to match the success of its predecessor “Meet the Fockers,” which earned $70.5 million in its first five days in 2004. Indeed, the second-place showing for “True Grit” was more impressive than the first-place “Fockers” in many respects. For one, the Jeff Bridges-starring Western drew $36.8 million since opening on Wednesday of last week, nearly crushing its entire $38 million production budget in a single session. “True Grit” also marked the single-best opening for any Coen brothers movie to date, easily surpassing the $19.1 million “Burn After Reading” earned in 2008. “Tron Legacy” remained on the gaming grid this weekend with a third-place finish worth $25.6 million. The movie suffered a steep 54 percent drop from its opening performance last weekend, leaving some to wonder whether Disney’s decision to revitalize the science-fiction franchise was a sound one. The weekend’s biggest disappointment was Jack Black’s “Gulliver’s Travels,” which debuted Saturday and ended the weekend in seventh place with $7.2 million. Releasing the film on Christmas Day was a risky gamble on Fox’s part, and despite the message that “Gulliver” has to offer, size really does matter when it comes to business, and unfortunately for the studio, the opening numbers on “Gulliver” are simply too small to consider the film anything but a flop. The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Little Fockers” ($34 million) #2 “True Grit” ($25.6 million) #3 “Tron Legacy” ($20.1 million) #4 “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” ($10.8 million) #5 “Yogi Bear” ($8.8 million) Upcoming Releases It’s going to be another quiet weekend at the box office next week, with smaller-budget dramas “Another Year” and “Blue Valentine” sneaking in as the weekend’s only new releases with a combined total of 10 theaters between the two of them. Demi Lovato Spends Christmas With Family

Plus: Tour dancer says she came to an ‘agreement’ with Lovato after alleged altercation. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images While rumors that Demi Lovato would be out of treatment by Thanksgiving were false, it seems the singer/actress was able to spend Christmas Day with her family. The “Sonny With a Chance” star was spotted with her family on Christmas getting food near her treatment facility in Woodridge, Illinois, according to Celebrity-Gossip.net . Wearing a leopard-print jacket, sunglasses and army boots, Lovato “seemed in good spirits,” according to a source. The site also reported that Lovato went back to the treatment facility later that evening. Lovato sightings have been rare since she entered the facility in early November. She left her tour with the Jonas Brothers after an alleged altercation with dancer Alex Welch. Earlier this month, photos taken prior to her treatment leaked online of Lovato partying with her friends , including Welch. Welch recently told People that she and the Disney actress came to a settlement in connection with the altercation. “I’m happy,” she said. “We came to an agreement and I’m ready to move on.” A rep for the Disney star had no comment regarding the settlement between the two. Earlier this month, Welch spoke about the disagreement , noting that she really wanted Demi to say sorry. “To this day, I haven’t gotten an apology. I’ve heard nothing,” Welch said. “That’s sad if you think that person is your friend. “I felt, honestly, I didn’t say anything and didn’t think twice about it,” Welch recalled. “We were on the plane with the Jonases having this awesome time, and I didn’t get a call or text from Demi or a ‘hey, you got a problem with me,’ nothing. And she walks up and punches me and, literally, walked away and got in her seat,” she continued. “No one should walk up and do that and brush it over, it’s not right.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato

Justin Bieber Vs. Jonas Brothers Hair-Off: ‘Camp Rock 2’ Stars Vote

‘Well, there are three Jonas Brothers versus one Bieber …,’ co-star Chloe Bridges reasons. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Robyn Beck/ Getty Images Demi Lovato told us recently that the littlest Jonas brother, Frankie, has swag like Justin Bieber . And as it turns out, the elder Jonas Brothers, namely Joe, Kevin and Nick, and Justin Bieber are all known for something they have in common, and we’re not talking about their bustling careers. We’re referring to their incredibly famous and all-important heads of hair. While Bieber is known for his signature swoop, the brothers Jonas are recognized for their curly mops. This fascinating paralell raised a question: Who has better hair, the Jonas Brothers or Justin Bieber? Their “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” co-stars weighed in on this battle for the ages. “I’m friends with the Jonas Brothers [and] I do have to see them later on, but I know that Bieber has this whole thingy, the swoop thingy,” Jasmine Richards pondered. “I’m gonna have to say Jonas Brothers only ’cause their hair’s great. … But Bieber … can I be in the middle?” Nick Jonas’ “Camp Rock 2” love interest, Chloe Bridges, compared the decision-making process on this issue to choosing a favorite summer sweet. “Well, there are three Jonas Brothers versus one Bieber. So I don’t know,” she explained. “They might win, however, they both have good hair. It’s hard to say. It’s like vanilla versus chocolate — do you like the straight or the wavy? It’s like ice cream flavors.” Anna Maria Perez de Tagle seemed to have the decision locked: “Oh, the Jonases, for sure! I mean, they all have different hairstyles, which is awesome,” she said. “Justin Bieber has the one hairstyle. For sure, the brothers!” Who do you think has better hair, Justin Bieber or the Jonas Brothers? Tell us in the comments! Related Photos JoBros, Demi Lovato, More At ‘Camp Rock 2’ Premiere

Demi Lovato Says ‘Camp Rock 2’ Album Has ‘Emotional’ Tracks

‘There are times where we pay more attention to the older crowd,’ she tells MTV News of Disney soundtrack. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News With only a few weeks left until the September 3 premiere of “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” on the Disney Channel, fans can prepare by getting familiar with the tunes from the movie’s soundtrack, out Tuesday (August 10). Not only is it chock-full of catchy pop tunes co-stars Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers are currently playing on tour , but with tracks written by the likes of Kara DioGuardi and Toby Gad, the album is sure to have fans dancing in their living rooms. But while the entire album will please “Camp Rock” followers, it’s the songs with the bigger heart that have deeper meaning for Lovato. “I’m really excited for fans to hear pretty much all the songs. A lot of the songs are really fun and they’re dance songs, but there’s also songs that are kind of emotional,” Lovato told MTV News at tour rehearsals . ” ‘It’s Not Too Late,’ I really enjoyed singing it. I loved performing it,” she added. “And also ‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing’ is a song that’s really fun to perform because I really get to showcase my voice.” Of course fans will enjoy hearing “Wouldn’t Change a Thing,” if only because it reunites Lovato and Joe Jonas — on record, at least. “Yeah, it sounds really great [performed live],” she said. “And it’s fun too. We’re having a good time with it.” Although the “Camp Rock 2” soundtrack songs aren’t official Lovato tracks, the singer said she works hard to get into the right headspace to interpret the songs. And she loves singing, which makes it a lot easier. “You know, not all of the songs are emotional because it’s a Disney musical movie, so we like to keep it really upbeat, especially when it’s aged towards a younger demographic,” she explained. “Kids lose interest, so you have to keep it upbeat, but sometimes there are times where we pay more attention to the older crowd and one of the songs being ‘It’s Not Too Late.’ Even though it’s not my song that I wrote or even that’s going to be on my album, I’m able to put my personal experiences into it. “I really enjoy singing, whether it’s my own songs or other people’s songs.” What’s your favorite song on the “Camp Rock 2” soundtrack?
