So Sad: A Fistfight Between Two Students At A North Carolina High School Ends With A Fatal Shooting

Getty Images High School Fight Ends With One Student Shooting Another In Hallway One fistfight between two North Carolina high school students took a terrible turn on Monday after one of them pulled out a handgun and fired at his classmate in a crowded hallway before the start of classes, according to authorities. The alleged shooter was identified as a male student at David W. Butler High School in Matthews–a suburb southeast of Charlotte–and was quickly taken into custody, police said. “There are no other threats or dangers to any of the students or staff, or anyone in the area of the school,” Captain Stason Tyrrell of the Matthews Police Department told reporters near the school. “I can just tell you that the shooter was taken into custody by Matthews Police Department, and his family is aware as well,” he assured students and the community. Following the horrific incident, the school briefly went into a lockdown as the wounded student (who was also not identified by police) was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The student died there a few hours later. Surveillance video shows the two students getting into a fight before the shooting happened, according to Tyrrell. “From what I’ve seen and the information I’ve received, our school resource officer was very nearby when it took place, and the situation became under control very quickly,” he added. Clayton Wilcox, Charlotte Mecklenburg School Superintendent, said that the school did not have a policy of searching every bag that enters the school prior to this incident, but added that all security procedures would be reviewed following the shooting. “I don’t know how a young person gets a handgun in the state of North Carolina,” Wilcox said to reporters. “But we are going to look into all those things, and we will do our best to make sure that this never happens again.”

Photo by Kevin Tachman/Getty Images Zoe Kravitz Confirms Her Engagement To Boyfriend Karl Glusman Zoe Kravitz is engaged–and has been for a while now, but she just revealed the good news for the world to hear. This past Sunday, the 29-year-old actress revealed in her cover-story interview with  Rolling Stone  that she has been engaged since February to her boyfriend of over a year, actor Karl Glusman. Within the interview, the star decided to casually mention the big news: “Oh, yeah, I’m engaged.” At first, the reporter who was interviewing her at first thought that Kravtiz was just joking around, which prompted her to say it again. “No, I’m engaged!” she exclaimed. “I haven’t told anyone yet,” continued the  Big Little Lies  actress, “I mean, I haven’t told the world. I wanted to keep it private.” Besides the interview revealing some huge news, Kravitz graces the cover of  Rolling Stone , where she beautifully imitated the famous 1988 cover of her mother, Lisa Bonet, which featured the former  Cosby Show  star nude–with only her hair covering her breasts. Zoe Kravitz and Karl Glusman met back in 2016 through some mutual friends. Just a few months later they decided to move in together, and from the looks of it, that decision seems to be working out quite well for them. Congrats to the happy couple!

New Couple Alert! Zendaya Is Secretly Booed Up With Her ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Co-Star Tom Holland

Zendaya Coleman And Tom Holland Are Dating Zendaya is officially off the market, and it looks like she allowed one of the hottest new actors on the scene to scoop her up. Reports have rolled in that the young Hollywood it-girl has been quietly getting cozy with none other than Spiderman himself, Tom Holland. The two have made no secret of the fact that they struck up a close friendship while on the set of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,” but as an insider snitched to People , Zendaya and Tom have actually been dating on the low ever since they shot the blockbuster hit film and have been careful to keep things a secret: “They started seeing each other while they were filming Spider-Man. They’ve been super careful to keep it private and out of the public eye but they’ve gone on vacations with each other and try and spend as much time as possible with one another. They’re both really ambitious and they challenge each other — but, most importantly, they make each other crack up. They seem to have a really similar sense of humor and love joking around together. They have great banter back and forth.” Welp, thanks to this chatterbox they can permanently say goodbye to all that privacy they worked so hard to maintain. But they make a cute couple nonetheless, don’t you think? Getty

‘Catfish’ Subject Is A ‘Bit More Wary’ When It Comes To The Web

Nev Schulman now understands where taking risks ‘can lead when it comes to the Internet.’ By Kara Warner Nev Schulman Photo: MTV News The much-buzzed-about little indie that could, “Catfish,” is finally in theaters. Despite the unusual approach Universal took with the marketing campaign — i.e., setting up the Sundance darling as a genre or horror-like film — it is a must-see movie with a very timely and unique message. The heavily hyped documentary revolves around NYC-based photographer Nev Schulman and a series of curious events that occur when he begins an online friendship with an 8-year-old girl and a romantic relationship with her older sister. When MTV News caught up with the filmmakers, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, they addressed the persistent “is it real?” debate . A few weeks later, we had the opportunity to sit down with all three of the “Catfish” guys: the filmmakers and the movie’s star/subject, Nev Schulman. Because the film exposes a very real and, at times, emotional real-life experience related to the realm of online relationships and social networking, we asked Nev if he has since changed his virtual presence or approach (without revealing any spoilers, of course). “Through all of this, basically, I’m trying to stay true to my regular behavior,” Schulman said. “I like to take risks, putting myself out there, saying yes to things. I have certainly a new appreciation for where that can lead when it comes to the Internet,” he explained. “So when it comes to meeting new people online, I’m definitely a little bit more wary now as far as getting to know them too personally before I actually meet with them in person, but as far as using the Internet and Facebook and Twitter and YouTube and having accounts on all these social-networking websites, I think it’s great. I think that there’s a lot of good that can come from it.” Nev Schulman added that until you really know someone, it’s best to err on the private side of things. At least in the beginning of a virtual relationship — no matter if it’s platonic or romantic. “Basically, what it comes down to is, keep it private, because you can always share with people once you’re ready to, but there’s no reason to willy-nilly share everything about yourself with anybody.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
