Chris Brown performed on show’s double-elimination night leading into semi-finals. By Kelley L. Carter Roshon Fegan on “Dancing With the Stars” Photo: ABC The “Dancing With the Stars” contestants were warned on Monday night that two couples would be sent packing on Tuesday, but that didn’t make the sting any less bitter. Chris Brown was the night’s performer, and after he ran through a new song from his forthcoming album Turn Up the Music, the remaining celebrities got the bad news. In the end, the first couple to get the boot was Disney star Roshon Fegan and his partner Chelsie Hightower. Fegan smiled through the announcement and said, “I am happy to add ballroom dancing to my super-duper dance moves.” Fegan actually scored pretty well on Monday night, earning 29 out of 30 for his individual performance. The judges told him that watching him perform was like watching a young Mickey Rooney. Fegan’s pleasant reaction to getting sent home was the exact opposite of that by the second celebrity to get the boot: actress Melissa Gilbert, whose dance partner was Maks Chmerkovskiy. She had to wipe tears away after her name was called. It was Gilbert’s 48th birthday, and the moment was emotional. Gilbert landed at the bottom of the leaderboard on Monday’s telecast, with judges telling her that her footwork was spotty. “I can’t even describe what a learning and growing experience this has been. It’s been a real blessing and a joy,” she said upon her departure. “Maks has been amazing. An incredible teacher. An incredible friend.” “DWTS” semi-finals begin next week, with the remaining four celebrities — Donald Driver, Katherine Jenkins, Maria Menounos and William Levy — in the running for the mirrorball trophy.
After her jive, tennis superstar is first to get the boot from season 14. By Kelley L. Carter Martina Navratilova on “Dancing with the Stars” Photo: ABC One down, 11 more to go. There wasn’t much shock on Tuesday night’s “Dancing With the Stars” elimination show. No one wanted to be the first celebrity sent packing, and after the first nine couples were told they were safe, it came down to an unsurprising pair of duos: Landing in the bottom two were tennis superstar Martina Navratilova and her professional partner Tony Dovolani and pop singer Gavin DeGraw and his partner Karina Smirnoff. Before it was revealed who would be going home during the first elimination show of the series’ 14th season, the tennis pro said that much like when she had a bad tennis match, she was hoping that she could come back next week a victor. Turns out, she won’t have the chance. In her Monday night performance of the jive, she messed up from the onslaught of her routine, and her score suffered for it. “That was sad because I love your approach to the routine,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba told her. Head judge Len Goodman said during the first week of the show that he thought Navratilova was elegant and refined, but didn’t think her foxtrot from that first performance was “too careful.” The 55-year-old’s poor performance landed her at the bottom of the leaderboard. “It was an amazing experience. I wish it had lasted longer. I gave it everything I had, I just blew it yesterday. I wish everybody great luck,” Navratilova said after being told she was going home.

Justin Bieber performs his Christmas collabo with Boyz II Men on results show. By Kara Warner Kym Johnson and David Arquette Photo: ABC The field of competing couples on the 13th season of “Dancing With The Stars” was trimmed down to five Tuesday night after David Arquette and partner Kym Johnson were eliminated from the show. Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus, who were the other couple in the bottom two, got to keep their dancing shoes for another go next week. “This has to be a mistake!” Arquette joked when his name was called. “This is my show! I love all the people I got to know and dance with. This whole production is top-notch, and thank you to all the fans!” “I’m going to take a lot away from this experience,” Arquette said in his goodbye video. ” ‘DWTS’ was an experience of a lifetime. You learn things about yourself you never thought possible.” The latest elimination show was as packed with headlining performers as ever. Teen king Justin Bieber kicked off the show with a lively performance of his hit “Never Say Never” and later returned to the dance floor with Boyz II Men to perform their Christmas collaboration “Fa La La” from his just-released holiday album, Under the Mistletoe. Bieber and the Boyz weren’t the only artists to take the “DWTS” stage Tuesday night: Rising star Christina Perri sang “Arms,” while 17-year-old ballerina and cancer survivor Victoria-Rose Viren performed a moving duet in front of Perri. Other fun performances included the encore dance of the night, the honors for which went to Team Paso Doble (Ricki Lake, Rob Kardashian and Hope Solo), who reprised their “powerful” dance to Evanescence’s “Wake Me Up Inside.” Seasoned pro Derek Hough also performed a fun routine with fellow pro Allison Holker. Heading into the eighth week of competition, Lake and Hough are sitting pretty at the top of the leaderboard, followed closely by fan favorite J.R. Martinez and his partner Karina Smirnoff, “dark horse” Rob Kardashian and partner Cheryl Burke, and Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Were you surprised to see David go? Let us know in the comments!

Ricki Lake, however, wasn’t atop the leaderboard like usual. By Kelley L. Carter J.R. Martinez Photo: ABC It was, like, totally ’80s week Monday night on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars.” The show opened with the Bangles performing a quick medley of “Eternal Flame” and “Walk Like an Egyptian” before the remaining celebrities kicked off their performances. Some of the stars grabbed their highest scores of the season, others (like constant score leader Ricki Lake) dropped a bit in rankings. Here’s how everyone fared: Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy The athlete was assigned the tango this week, and the twosome danced to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.” The judges found the routine to be strong, sexy and powerful. “Tango is about action and reaction. Hope: You were too willowy. You’re too willowy in the body. I don’t know how Maks controls you. Having said that, I like the aggression and the attack that you put into it,” said head judge Len Goodman. 24/30 Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya Kressley said this has been the most stressful week. He took on the jive and said he couldn’t believe he was still in the game. They danced a rather colorful and cheerleader-friendly routine to Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” and the judges thought it was good, wacky fun but lacked technique. “This is a crowning achievement in madness,” Bruno Tonioli said. 19/30 Nancy Grace and Tristan Macmanus After landing one point off the bottom, the TV host took on the rumba to a Spandau Ballet track. The judges thought it was simple but very effective. Still, they wanted more and pointed out a few unstable moments. “It was appropriate. But I want to see real passion when you’re dancing. I don’t feel a connection necessarily to the dance. They’re feeling a little on the drab side to me. And I think you’re a really good dancer. I just want to see more,” Carrie Ann Inaba said. 22/30 J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff The war hero and actor danced the samba to Gloria Estefan’s “Conga,” and it took a while for the audience to simmer down. Likewise, the judges found the routine to be hot and loved his performance. “Way to go, Jose! I didn’t think you’d come out and perform anything like that, because normally guys and the samba don’t work together. But in the future, if anyone says to me how should a guy dance the dance, I’ll say just have a look at J.R,” Goodman said. 28/30 Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke The reality star took on the rumba to Lionel Richie, and the judges thought his dance to “Hello” was a very sentimental and romantic performance. “We’re starting to see Rob the heartthrob. For the first time, I see you using Cheryl as a partner, not hiding behind her, but becoming part of a unit,” Tonioli said. 25/30 Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer The duo danced the samba to Kool and the Gang’s “Get Down On It,” and unlike other weeks, the judges thought the performance was a step in the right direction. Bono was injury-free and hit the dance floor like he’s never done before. “It’s so nice to see you going strong from last week. That was the most dancing I think I’ve seen you do. Shake it, don’t break it! Good job,” Inaba said. Hard-to-please judge Goodman agreed, saying, “I think that was a gallant effort. I think you got a feel for the dance. What I liked is that you came out and really gave it a go.” 21/30 David Arquette and Kym Johnson Arquette was assigned the tango, and he and his partner performed to “Tainted Love.” He was looking to jump out from the middle of the pack and get a higher score from the judges. (It worked, he earned his highest score in the competition so far.) The judges were all unanimous in their celebration of Arquette, though Inaba and Goodman argued about whether he needed to work on his musicality. “We’re at the halfway stage now. From here on in, you have to show up or shut up. You have shown up, and it was fantastic!” Goodman said. 25/30 Ricki Lake and Derek Hough This twosome has dominated the leaderboard this season, and on Monday night, they danced the foxtrot to the Phil Collins and Philip Bailey hit “Easy Lover.” They took an ’80s-prom-like spin on the dance, and the judges thought they should have avoided doing the Roger Rabbit dance at the beginning of their routine. They felt the cheesy ’80s dance move threw off the routine. “You did the Roger Rabbit the first time, and you were way off. But when you two dance, what I love the most is how amazingly you work as a team. It’s like you’re one person,” Inaba said. 24/30 Who was your favorite celeb this week? Let us know in the comments!
Jonas Brother’s debut solo album dropped Tuesday. By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas Photo: Dave J Hogan/ Getty Images Joe Jonas is living the FastLife on his first-ever solo album, released Tuesday (October 11). The singer, now in his 20s, is no longer singing about the nuances of puppy love. Instead, he’s all grown up, singing about heartbreak and romantic turmoil. “It was scary in the beginning, just because I knew this is my one opportunity to show people my journal: the good and bad of every relationship I’ve been in, you know, [and] what I look for [in relationships],” he told MTV News . After launching onto the scene as one-third of the Jonas Brothers, he’s ready to show the world his pop&B side. Boasting production and writing credits from Rob Knox, Brian Kennedy, Danja and even Chris Brown, Jonas worked closely with his crew and helped co-write almost every song on the album. In the process, he managed to snag up enough of his own solo swagger to get Lil Wayne on the remix of his second single, “Just in Love.” “I feel like this is a good time in my life to be doing this solo project,” he explained. “I’m just ready to play music. I’ve been promoting a lot and hustling around all over America and Europe, talking about the album, and now I just get to play, and that’s my favorite thing to do.” The hustle to spread the gospel of FastLife has been happening for months now. After releasing two singles, “See No More” and “Just in Love,” he recently wrapped up a tour with Jay Sean and will open for Britney Spears in Europe later this month. Jonas said he loves to perform and touring has been a way to get his music out to the masses. That music shows a new side of the star musically. Instead of pop-rock, his songs are R&B and dance tracks reminiscent of fellas like Brown. “A song I’m most excited about right now is a song called ‘FastLife.’ Performing it live is so much fun,” Jonas explained. “Doing a lot of dancing and stuff, it’s cool for people to see; it’s a little bit different. It’s fun for me to be up there doing it. “I feel like it’s a fun dance song. A lot of people want to have fun listening to it and dancing to it,” he continued. “The song is just about pretty much living life to the fullest, enjoying life, going out with your friends and having fun.” Even as he releases the album, he’s always thinking about what else he can do. “I love to make music,” he said. “I’m always creating. It doesn’t stop that creating bug. It’s just something that I always do.” Share your thoughts on FastLife in the comments below!
Next closest competitor is war hero J.R. Martinez, who went from tears last week to a humorous dance. By Kelley L. Carter Ricki Lake and Derek Hough Photo: ABC It was movie night on Monday night’s “Dancing With the Stars,” and the celebrities and their dance partners were hoping their stories would be the box-office draw with the judges. Once again, former talk-show host Ricki Lake ended up on top of the board, earning this season’s first perfect 10 scores from two of the three judges. Here’s how everyone fared: Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani The couple danced the tango to the “Mission Impossible” theme song, and the judges noted the mistakes Phillips made in her routine. But they were merciful in their comments, saying that what she did right was beautiful and that she didn’t lose her composure. “The challenge is for the professional,” said head judge Len Goodman. “They’ve got to maintain the character of the dance but still show us a little bit of the flavor of the film. I thought you got it just about right. You lost it, you went wrong, you didn’t know where you were and you panicked. I’m sure had you nailed it, it was going to be great. Unfortunately, there were a lot of mistakes.” 21/30 David Arquette and Kym Johnson Dancing the paso doble to the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” theme song, Arquette and Johnson were hoping his background in Hollywood might give them the leg up. It did the trick: The judges thought he was in control and loved his attitude. “I love the way you crack your whip!” Bruno Tonioli said of Arquette’s Indiana Jones accessory. “Like an action hero! Ready to take us into a wild ride! Watch your turns.” 23/30 Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya Kressley earned a standing ovation last week and impressed the judges. This week, he took on the Viennese waltz to the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl” theme song, and Goodman said it was like childbirth: terrible and then a joy when it is over. That said, he added that it was great fun, and if he were an at-home voter, he’d phone in for him. “I’m still recovering,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. “It was kind of like being on the ride. But weirder. I have to say this is your most butch performance you’ve ever done. I am addicted to your performances because I know I’m going to have a great time, but then I watch the technique … ” 20/30 Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus The TV host took on the paso doble this week to a song from “Flash Gordon,” and the judges thought her routine lacked expression. “I can’t get excited about it. It was OK, but I can’t get excited about it,” Goodman said. 21/30 Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy The two danced the foxtrot to a tune from “Toy Story,” and the judges found the Olympian’s dance to be lovely. They thought their performance lit up the room and talked up the chemistry between the dancing couple. Goodman said he thought they could last until the end and win the whole thing. “It made me smile the whole way though,” Inaba added. “This show is about beating our expectations, and that was exactly that. It was so refreshing to see you out there having fun. Well done.” 24/30 Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke The reality star and his partner danced the paso doble to the “Superman” theme song, and they were hoping to capitalize on last week’s high note, when Goodman told Rob he put the “dash” in Kardashian). “I like the way you move,” Inaba said. “There is something about the way you move that is steady and just the way a man should be in the ballroom. You’re fluid. It all works. I love it. Today, you took it up a notch. It was spicy and had some Superman flavor going.” 24/30 Ricki Lake and Derek Hough Last week’s top finisher tangoed to a song from “Psycho,” and the talk-show host earned a standing ovation from the audience, which included celebrity attendees like Dr. Phil and Cher, mother of Chaz Bono. Inaba said her performance was “brilliance in the ballroom.” Brilliance, indeed. They earned a pair of perfect 10’s (from Tonioli and Inaba), the first of the season. “You … always deliver,” Goodman said, despite giving Ricki her only 9. “You’ve got to get a little bit more neck going. But I tell you what, top of the leaderboard, I think so.” 29/30 Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer Bono and Schwimmer landed in the bottom of the leaderboard last week but hoped to change all that with the paso doble to the theme from “Rocky.” His mother seemed thrilled with his performance. The judges? They loved it too. Inaba cried and said Bono was an underdog and wanted to root for him. “Chaz, in the true spirit of ‘Rocky,’ no matter how many knocks you take, you keep coming back, you keep fighting, and you keep getting stronger,” Tonioli said. 21/30 J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff The war hero did the foxtrot to the “Pink Panther” theme. It was a whimsical way to chase last week’s emotional dance that had the judges (and nearly everyone in the audience) in tears. This week, the judges were mixed. Goodman crowned him the best male dancer and liked his tweak of humor and Tonioli liked his technique, but Inaba wasn’t all that impressed. “I thought it was OK,” she said to loud boos from the audience. “I love your frame. The technique is all there. But for some reason, this fell a little flat for me. I think it’s the humor. You didn’t need the humor. I think the humor didn’t quite make it tonight for me.” 26/30 Did you expect Ricki Lake to get the season’s first 10’s? Let us know in the comments! Recently, SMBC Theater skewered the phenomenon of massively multiplayer online roleplaying games — think World of Warcraft — in what might be the best episode yet. Even better, they’ve put their fake MMO online, so you can play it for yourself. The game is just a giant “Click Me” button that gives you a point every time you click. As one character says, “It’s like an MMO, but they stripped out all the pointless bells and whistles.” MMORPGs are a really easy target, but online gaming addiction has come back in a big way with Facebook games like Farmville, so the phenomenon is ripe for mockery once again. The funny part is that the leaderboard of the fake game has some seriously huge numbers of clicks. Whether it’s WoW , Farmville or just clicking, I guess we all just want to collect points.
