Dancing with the Stars: The Finals Preview

Dancing with the Stars names its 10th champions tomorrow. Who will win it? Only three tandems are left vying for the Mirror Ball when they take the floor tonight. It’s now or never for Erin, Maks, Nicole, Derek, Evan and Anna. There are no cumulative scores, so any faltering tonight could be devastating, even to the favorite. Below, we break down the dancers left standing on the final night of competition, their strengths and weaknesses, and their odds of bringing home the glory … Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy Why they’ll win: Sex appeal. Chemistry. Being a hoot to watch. Unquestionably the most attractive and fun pair all season long, Erin and Maks have earned their place in the finals with performances that are technically rigorous as well. Why they won’t: This isn’t to suggest the judges have it in for Erin, but they sort of do. Off-the-charts heat doesn’t translate to higher scores – rarely they matched Nicole or Evan’s totals. If they did tonight, it would be a surprise. A hot surprise . Odds: 20-1 Can either Erin or Evan pull a huge upset in this week’s finals? Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya Why they’ll win: Evan and Anna served notice with last week’s dances that this far from over. Nicole may be the favorite, but Evan has as many perfect 30s (two) as she does, and if they end up all square at the end of tonight, he may have a shot. Why they won’t: Nicole is still better … which is a little unfair, given that she dances for a living, but such is life. Evan needs to be nearly flawless and get some help. Odds: 5-1 Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough Why they’ll win: Woman’s got skills. Those new Pussycat Dolls have big shoes to fill. Popular and proficient, Nicole has the whole package and should get it done. And partnering with Derek Hough should help with the female audience, as well. Why they won’t: Her fan base could assume she has it wrapped up and not vote. It’s all about turnout as much as talent. Or she has a rare off night, which we doubt. Odds: 3-2 Make no mistake, this title is Nicole’s to lose . Who do you want to win Dancing with the Stars?

Dancing with the Stars Recap: Perfect 10s A-Flyin’

The Dancing with the Stars judges doled out many a 10 Monday, as Nicole Scherzinger and Evan Lysacek each pulled in perfect scores and Erin Andrews close. Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger earned a 30 on her Tango, and a 29 on her Cha Cha for a 59. Evan Foxtrotted (30) and Paso Dobled (29) his way to a 59 too. Erin Andrews nearly achieved perfection with her own Paso (29), only to have Bruno call out her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy for a minor slip-up at the end. “You were the one who [bleeped] up!” the judge explained. On her previous dance, Bruno accidentally held up his 10 paddle for Erin, even though he entered and said nine. Maks dramatically fell to the floor laughing. The judges sort of gave the shaft to Chad Ochocinco by disparaging a marvelous samba with an underwhelming 25. Are they trying to ensure he gets ousted? Nicole Scherzinger and Evan Lysacek soared over the competition. Ochocinco may not be on par with the remaining dancers , but he proved he belonged last night, and his scores seem unfairly skewed in comparison to the rest. Barring a huge surprise, Chad will be leaving tonight. Should he? Do you think last night was scored fairly? Here’s the full Dancing with the Stars scorecard: Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya: Foxtrot: 29 (10-9-10). Paso Doble: 30 (10-10-10). Total: 59 . Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough: Tango: 30 (10-10-10). Cha Cha: 29 (10-9-10). Total: 59 . Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Waltz: 27 (9-9-9). Paso Doble: 29 (10-9-10). Total: 56 . Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke: Waltz: 27 (9-9-9). Samba: 25 (8-8-9). Total: 52 . Click to enlarge some more photos from last night … Who are you pulling for on Dancing with the Stars?

Dancing with the Stars: Handicapping the Final Four

Just four couples remain, and just one episode tonight before the 10th season finale and presentation of the cherished Mirror Ball trophy next week. It’s crunch time on Dancing with the Stars. Below, we break down the four pairs left standing and handicap their odds of bringing home the glory … Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke Why they’ll win: Because #85 doesn’t back down from any challenge, and he and Cheryl have formed one of the best partnerships in recent years. They’ve been consistent and significantly better than most of the field so far. Why they won’t: They get 7s and 8s. Nicole and Evan get 9s and 10s. If Chad and Cheryl advanced to the finals this week, it would be a surprise. Odds: 25-1 Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy Why they’ll win: Fan support. Sexual chemistry. Regardless of whether Maksim Chmerkovskiy is seeing Erin Andrews nude , there is heat on the dance floor. Not just as gimmicks, either. Erin has thrived in Maks’ challenging routines. Why they won’t: You need to be brilliant, not just very good; Judges dock points for their sexy routines; Good looks could also work against them. Odds: 12-1 Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya Why they’ll win: They put up one of two perfect scores this season, and he’s Nicole’s top competitor in terms of technical proficiency, skill and agility. If he has a great week, and/or her fans don’t vote en masse, he could pull an upset. Why they won’t: Likely needs a 30. That’s a tall order. Have had more slip-ups and shown more flaws, albeit relatively few, than Nicole and Derek. Odds: 4-1 Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough Why they’ll win: She’s the most skilled, already a professional dancer and a perfectionist. The ladies love Derek, and don’t dislike the Pussycat Doll. Why they won’t: No reason. Odds: 6:5 Who do you want to win Dancing with the Stars?

Maksim Chmerkovskiy to Kate Gosselin: Get a Clue!

Tony Dovolani has Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s respect … and sympathy. Why? Because the former is paired with Kate Gosselin on the current season of Dancing with the Stars , who outspoken Maks is quite unimpressed by. Despite her recent breakthrough , Maksim expects more. A lot more. The dancer explains: “I’ve spoken to Kate, and I don’t think she gets the point of this thing yet. The pain on her face says it all, which is unfortunate.” “The show is about finding a way to come out, enjoy yourself and have fun,” Maksim says . “We have been taught to respect our teachers, so as teachers, we expect to be respected by our students. Kate needs to trust [Tony] more.” “However lifeless that [her dancing] is, he has her ready.” A Dancing with the Stars insider reveals that Kate Gosselin’s first choice for pro partner on the hit program was actually Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who ended up partnered (and possibly dating ) ESPN reporter Erin Andrews. “She wishes she had been partnered with Maks because he’s a stronger personality [than Tony Dovolani ], and Kate likes a man who takes charge.” Must explain why she married Jon Gosselin then … wait, what? The insider adds: “Kate would have lasted about five minutes with Maks.” Her lack of focus and attitude just don’t jibe. But he says she can fix that. “This is a chance for her to focus on something other than personal drama. How many women with multiple kids sit back and reminisce about the days they could go and dance? How many people vicariously live through us?” “Live in the moment. You need to enjoy it.”

Dancing with the Stars Recap: Evan Lysacek Sets the Gold Standard

Evan Lysacek is not interested in silver medals. Having already conquered the Winter Olympics in figure skating, the 24-year-old is looking to pair his gold medal with a silver Dancing with the Stars disco ball. If last night is any indication, he’s the man to beat. He and Anna Trebunskaya bested the field by a considerable margin and got a standing O for the quickstep. Also cementing their status as contenders this season were Nicole Scherzinger, the first two weeks’ top scorer , and Erin Andrews, who showed grace and poise. Despite threats from a crazy stalker , Erin is no quitter, and she and Maksim Chmerkovskiy tied Nicole and Derek Hough for Monday’s second-highest scores. At the bottom of the heap were Buzz Aldrin, predictably, and Kate Gosselin, who didn’t exactly make Tony Dovolani look like Babe Ruth with his predictions . Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya stood (and sat) alone.

Dancing With the Stars: Kate Gosselin, "Superbitch From Hell," Punches Out the Paso Doble

Erin Andrews: Maksim Chmerkovskiy is "Amazing"

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy may or may not be dating, officially, but there is definitely something between them. And that something is hot. When the ESPN reporter got the news she’d be on Dancing with the Stars , she knew she wanted to be paired up with Maksim Chmerkovskiy right away. Because of his strong work ethic, of course… but also his musk. “He’s ridiculously amazing!” Andrews said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. “We could be working out for hours and I’ll smell like a guy and he smells like a garden of lilies. I’m like, are you serious? I’ll put on a load of deodorant [and] spray myself up.” It must help – they’ve been among the top scorers so far . Aside from his scent, there are other characteristics drawing Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy to each other. She told producers, “I want somebody that pushes me … I’ll try to weasel my way out of things. I’ll be like, ‘Let’s go get a latte!'” “But Maks will say ‘No. Do this step. Then we leave for latte.'” Love. It’s always give and take, right? And sexual chemistry. Seriously. She asked for it. “I flat out said to [the Dancing with the Stars producers], I want sexual chemistry,” she freely admits. “I want to be put with Maks. I don’t care if he makes me cry, I want somebody that’s really hot.” Hey, it can only help with voters. When that whiner Kate Gosselin stays around and Shannen Doherty gets kicked off, you know it’s a popularity contest first and a dancing competition second. Fortunately, Erin and Maks should be quite popular.
