Erin Moran Dies; Former Happy Days Star Was 56

Erin Moran, the actress best known for having portrayed Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days, was found dead on Saturday from causes unknown. She was 56 years old. According to TMZ sources, authorities in Indiana received a call just after 4 p.m. this afternoon from someone reporting he or she had come across an “unresponsive female.”   When emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene, they found Moran ‘s corpse. Moran sky-rocketed to fame in the early 1970s when she was cast as the younger sister of Ron Howard’s beloved character on Happy Days. In 1982, she went on to star opposite Scott Baio on the short-lived spinoff Joanie Loves Chachi. It was canceled after just one season. Following her quick rise to fame, however, Moran struggled in life. She appeared to have a drinking problem and, after a series of bizarre incidents, eventually landed her in a trailer park in Indiana. She had reportedly gone broke and was kicked out of the mobile home she shared with husband, Steve Fleischmann. Along with her aforementioned legendary role, Moran appeared on episodes of Murder, She Wrote, Desperation Boulevard and VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club. An autopsy has been scheduled to determined cause of death. In 2011, Moran and three of her Happy Days costars (Don Most, Anson Williams and Marion Ross), along with the estate of Tom Bosley, who died in 2010, sued CBS for breach of contract. Alleging that they had not been paid for merchandising relating to the series, they sought millions in damages. In 2012, CBS and the actors settled their lawsuit, with the group receiving and undisclosed amount of money. A Burbank, California native, Moran started acting in television shows and movies before she was 10 years old. She was just 14 when she caught her major break on Happy Days.  In response to this sad news, former co-stars of Moran’s took to social media and expressed their sadness. To wit: Ron Howard : Such sad sad news. RIP Erin. I’ll always choose to remember you on our show making scenes better, getting laughs and lighting up tv screens. Henry Winkler : OH Erin… now you will finally have the peace you wanted so badly here on earth …Rest In It serenely now.. too soon. Added Moran’s good friend, Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha on Bewitched: “So sad to share that my friend Erin Moran has passed away. Rest In Peace, sweet girl. Other stars also chimed in on Moran’s passing, such as Yvette Nicole Brown, who Tweeted: “Such sad news. #RIP #ErinMoran #HappyDays Star Dead At 56. We all loved #JoanieCunningham.” And Troy Hughes: “THIS JUST IN … Erin Moran who starred in “Happy Days” and “Joanie Loves Chachi” has died according to @TMZ … She was 56.” We send along our condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Erin Moran. Community Colleges Reaching Out To ITT Tech Students To Help Continue Their Education

    Community Colleges Are Reaching Out To Those In Need Last week, ITT Tech presumably ruined the lives of thousands of its students when they permanently closed the doors of every single campus in the country. ITT Tech’s credits tend not to transfer to other institutions , effectively costing both time and money of their student population. There might be some reprieve however, as community colleges are reaching out to Tech students to help them continue their educational pursuits. via AL.com Community colleges across Alabama are reaching out to former ITT Tech students after the institute’s sudden closure last week. Calhoun Community College will host an information session and open house on September 15 from 4-6 p.m. for students to meet with instructors and representatives from the school’s various programs. There will also be financial aid advisers and counselors available for more information about enrollment. “Our team has met for the last few days in an effort to develop a comprehensive plan as we work with those ITT students who decide to make Calhoun their choice in continuing their higher education goals,” Calhoun President Dr. James Klauber said. The event will be at Calhoun’s Decatur Campus in the Aerospace Training Center. Those interested can call Caroline Canestrari at 256-306-276 for more information or go to  calhoun.edu. The school announced that it is shutting its doors today after being investigated by multiple agencies and after the U.S. Dept. of Education said it would stop federal loans for the school’s students. Another school, Athens State University, said on its website  that the school is “committed to assisting students wishing to transfer to Athens State to complete their education.” “As a regionally accredited, state-supported University, we are constrained by guidelines that sometimes limit our ability to transfer all credits from all institutions. Nonetheless, given the hardship that the ITT closing has placed on so many students in Alabama and across the country, we welcome the opportunity to review transcripts and course descriptions on request for any possible transfer of credit to our programs,” the school said. Former ITT Tech students have not been notified if their credits from the school will be transferable. Students interested in speaking with an Athens State counselor can call 256-233-8100 or go to athens.edu  for more information. According to WALA  and WHNT , other schools helping ITT Tech students include the Alabama Aviation Center at the Brookley Field campus in Mobile, J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College in Huntsville, and Oakwood University in Huntsville. This is definitely an awesome move and all the colleges involved should be commended for providing a helping hand at this time.

The actor and former high school teacher has joined the board of the app Scholly, which match resources to students in need. EBONY reports: Fast forward a few years and it’s easy to see why the devoted activist is the newly tapped brand ambassador for Scholly, the mobile app that matches students with untapped resources to finance higher education. The well-known activist was moved to action once he heard the inspiring story of the company’s founder, Christopher Gray. When The Upload caught up with Gray a few months ago, the Birmingham, Alabama native told us that he raised $1.3 million in scholarships to attend college — but finding the programs and awards required a lot of digging. That’s why he founded Scholly. The social enterprise mobile app was such a hit that he earned a spot on Shark Tank where he ultimately made big deal with super entrepreneurs/hosts Daymond John and Lori Greiner. To date the app has helped students identify, apply and win over $50 million in college scholarships and grants. Now Williams wants to help bring the resources to the masses, so he’s signed on to the company’s advisory board and as Scholly’s Chief Brand Ambassador. Abusive Boyfriend Blames Crystal Meth Binge For Murdering Girlfriend’s Family Yesterday we posted a story about an abusive azzhole who hunted his estranged girlfriend down and murdered six people in her family. Today, we get news that the man is blaming crystal meth for his murderous rampage according the NYDN : The suspected killer blamed meth for a bloody rampage that left five members of his estranged girlfriend’s family dead in a rural Alabama home at the end of a dirt road. “Drugs, man, they mess people’s minds up,” said Dearman, as the jailbird shuffled his way to the Mobile Metro County Jail in shackles and a bright yellow jumpsuit Monday. He was extradited back to Alabama just before 7 p.m. Before disappearing behind bars, he offered three words of advice: “Don’t do drugs.” UH, YA THINK???? With a cop escort on each side, the 27-year-old suspect appeared exhausted and solemn while attempting to apologize for the methamphetamine-fueled bloodbath that sought revenge for Lenata Lester daring to escape their abusive relationship. “I love you Laneta Lester,” Dearman whined. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry to all the family members.” He faces the death penalty if convicted in the killings of Shannon Randall, 35; Justin Reed, 23; Joseph Turner, 26; Robert Brown, 26; and Chelsea Reed, 22. Bikini-Clad Police Officer Makes Sexiest Arrest Ever

They say there’s no rest for the weary. But there’s also no rest for a police officer, not even when she’s out sunbathing with friends. A member of the Stockholm Police Department for the past 11 years, Mikaela Kellner was off-duty and taking it easy on Tuesday when a man claiming to sell magazines for homeless people came up to them. Kellner and her pals turned down his request to purchase some publications, but the man kept hanging around. This prompted suspicion on the part of the long-time cop. “I told my friends to keep an eye on their things,” Kellner said, according to UPI.com. “But as soon as he left, one of my friends said, ‘Where did my mobile phone go?’” Assuming the man had used a magazine to cover up the stolen item, that’s when Kellner sprung into sexy action, sprinting after the culprit despite only wearing a bikini at the time. “There was no time, so I ran after him, maybe 15 meters or so,” she told TheLocal.se. “One of my friends is also a police officer, so we got hold of him. He tried to get away so we held onto him harder.” A bystander snapped the following photo and it has since gone viral: What was Kellner thinking during the chase and takedown? Nothing, really. “I did not hesitate. Had I been naked, I would have also intervened,” she told Aftonbladet.se. “There was nothing stopping me, but it was a little comical that I grabbed him in a bikini.” Indeed it was. But maybe not unexpected for Kellner. A fitness fanatic, she shares many photos of herself post-workout on Instagram.
