Freida Pinto Admits: That’s Not My Butt in Immortals

For skin fans praying that tall, sexy drink of water Freida Pinto would finally let those Pinto beans out of her tunic in the mythological action flick Immortals (2011)- your prayers have been answered. Sort of. Freida’s character , the demi-goddess Phaedra , does bare right breast and butt getting it on with mythic hero Theseus ( Henry Cavill ) 57 minutes in. But that tasty brown backside you see isn’t Freida’s- it’s a textbook case of a body double (notice how her face and butt are never in the same shot). Freida even admits to using a butt double for the scene, telling E! Online : “It wasn’t really my butt. It was a butt double. I’m relieved I don’t have to deal with that issue.” The gods can be so cruel. Want to see some Greek gazongas and Roman rackage? Katy Perry Follows Lady Gaga In Mermaid Trend

Perry posts photo of herself ‘planking’ in fins shortly after Gaga teases a mermaid-themed video. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Katy Perry/ Twitter Of all the potential beefs in the music industry, mermaids didn’t seem like the most likely of instigators. But that may change. Shortly after Lady Gaga teased that her mermaid alter ego, Yuyi, might be “born” in her next music video, Katy Perry tweeted a photo of herself dressed as a mermaid. “PROPER planking FTW! #itswhatArielwoulddo,” she wrote on Twitter , showing off her second entry into the Internet phenom of planking , in which people post photos of themselves lying face down, with their arms at their sides, in awkward locations. In the photo, Perry is done up in full mermaid attire: She’s wearing a purple wig with a starfish hairpin, a shimmering aqua-and-pink mermaid tail with a matching bra top. She’s surrounded by shiny paper acting as water and a bridge prop looms in the background. There’s been no word on the official purpose of the photo shoot. While Gaga hasn’t commented on any mermaid similarities, her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, did make reference to it on Twitter just hours after Perry tweeted the photo of herself. “Proud of my artist #1 in the world @Ladygaga her vision& passion. even though they try to steal a tail there’s only 1 Mermaid, Swim On!!!” Gibson wrote . Gaga has certainly been trying to make her mermaid phase happen for some time now. She initially introduced fans to Yuyi on Twitter earlier this summer and donned mermaid attire for her performance on “Le Grand Journal.” Though she apparently nixed the rumored mermaid treatment for her “Edge of Glory” video , she told a Taiwanese talk show last week that Yuyi is “in incubation” and may appear in the video for her yet-unannounced fourth Born This Way single. Of course, neither Gaga nor Perry would be the first pop star to think of using the mythological creatures for their sets. In Madonna’s black-and-white clip for 1989’s “Cherish,” directed by the late fashion photographer Herb Ritts, Madonna splashes in the waves with mermen. Mermaids are popping up elsewhere in pop culture too, as a major plot point in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and in several new novels, including an upcoming book by “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer. ‘I Am Number Four’ Director Says Aliens ‘Much More Intriguing’ Than Vampires

D.J. Caruso and stars Alex Pettyfer and Timothy Olyphant discuss which is the better fantasy character. By Kara Warner Alex Pettyfer and Teresa Palmer in “I Am Number Four” Photo: DreamWorks If one were to pinpoint a particular fantasy character that has dominated pop culture over the past few years, most people would agree that vampires have taken center stage as the mythological figure of the moment. However, with extreme popularity often comes a point of overexposure. Not that we’ve reached that point yet with the fang fixation, but there are other creatures waiting in the wings. Take the new alien-adventure movie “I Am Number Four,” for example, which showcases a sexy new take on the stereotypical green Marvin the Martian-type aliens. When MTV News caught up with the film’s director, D.J. Caruso, and stars Alex Pettyfer and Timothy Olyphant recently, we posed them an important question: Are aliens the new vampires? “I didn’t notice aliens kind of going in and out of fashion,” said Olyphant, who plays mentor Henri to Pettyfer’s Number Four (John Smith). “Where vampires kind of come and go, aliens, in general, it’s a broader palette, so they’ve been around,” he explained. Caruso said: “I’d take aliens over vampires any day. Aliens are much more intriguing.” The “Disturbia” director agreed with Olyphant’s sentiments about extra-terrestrial longevity. “Aliens have always been around,” he said. “Vampires: They’re wearing out.” Plus, while vampire stories are based in fiction, we can’t say for certain whether life exists on other planets or in other galaxies. On the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe, Pettyfer said, “There’s got to be something out there — one way or another.” Caruso agreed: “I think there’s something else out there. I can’t imagine that God’s just allowing this one planet to function; I think he’s got a bunch of experiments floating around.” Check out everything we’ve got on ” I Am Number Four.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Lady Gaga Premieres Born This Way Short Film

Film, starring ‘Zombie Boy,’ features remixed song and footage from Thierry Mugler fashion show. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images The world may at last have a first glimpse of what Gaga has up her sleeve for Born This Way, thanks to a short film made for designer Thierry Mugler. The film, directed by fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco, is set to the remixed song that Gaga debuted at the Mugler menswear show in Paris on Wednesday. The black-and-white video, which premiered on Stylist.com and Mugler.com on Thursday (January 20), features Canadian model Rick Genest, also known as Zombie Boy, whose body and face are tattooed to look like a skeleton. It opens with voiceover of Gaga saying, “I don’t speak German, but I can if you like,” as the camera focuses on Zombie Boy, rocking a studded helmet. Footage of Zombie Boy is edited together with models walking the catwalk in Mugler designs. Zombie Boy mugs for the camera wearing a leather jacket and pearls while Gaga sings in German, “I’m absolutely clear/ As long as I’m a monster/ I wish we all could be blind/ It would be easier out there.” She repeats the phrase and the beat plays low under her anthem. There is very little pop in the dark, subversive club jam, reminiscent of a ’90s club track. The vibe of the video is an extension of her equally fashionable clip for “Alejandro,” which was styled by Nicola Formichetti, who happens to be the creative director of Thierry Mugler. Zombie Boy is later seen walking in a city, wearing street clothes, as Gaga sings in English, “I’ll take you out tonight/ Say whatever you like,” accompanied by a pulsing beat. The video closes with a model walking down the runway as the song fades out. Gaga remixed the song herself for the show. “I love him, my friend the genius, my collaborator, more more than any piece of clothing or closet I possess,” she said of Formichetti in a statement about the show. “But don’t tell him I said that, he’ll die. He picked them all out.” Related Artists Lady Gaga

‘No Strings Attached’ Director Says ‘Friends With Benefits’ Can’t Last

‘It’s very easy to have a sexual relationship that lasts for a short while,’ Ivan Reitman tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Natalie Portman in “No Strings Attached” Photo: Cold Spring Pictures Ivan Reitman is not only one of Hollywood’s most notable and reputable producers of memorable comedies (“Animal House,” “Old School”); he’s also directed plenty of them (“Stripes,” “Meatballs,” “Ghostbusters”), including the upcoming romantic comedy “No Strings Attached,” starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher . The fact that Reitman is one of the most memorable players in the business makes him an intriguing, if slightly intimidating, interview subject. However, given Reitman’s history with wacky and sometimes raunchy comedy, when MTV News caught up with him recently to discuss “No Strings Attached,” we felt it entirely appropriate to ask his thoughts on the idea of “friends with benefits,” particularly whether the mythological-sounding “agreement” that has become commonplace in pop culture these days can ever actually work. “Well, I think it’s very easy to have a sexual relationship that lasts for a short while, where there’s no kind of responsibility and there’s no kind of real ties,” Reitman said thoughtfully. “It’s been my experience, as somebody who’s been married for way more years than I believe, that you can’t do that for any real length of time.” Reitman went on to say that although it’s a nice idea, we human beings can’t help but fall in love at some point, “arrangement” or no. “It’s really the subplot of this movie as well. I think it’s as much of a fantasy that we’d all like to think it’s possible,” he said of the “friends with benefits” idea. “I think it’s tough, because we do fall in love, and there’s something about the human connection that makes us want to have deeper connections.” Check out everything we’ve got on “No Strings Attached.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
